Description:

Using advanced plasma-display technology, Daewoo's 50-inch widescreen DP-50SM renders breathtaking high-definition digital images with extremely high brightness and contrast. This ultra-slim plasma display is designed for maximum versatility with extensive connectivity options, from a high-definition DVI-D input to a PC input for use as a computer monitor, as well as standard component-, composite-, and S-video inputs. Be advised that the monitor has no onboard tuner, so you'll need to use an outboard tuner (such as found in a DVR or VCR) if you want to view cable or television programming.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the DP-50SM is a mere 4.2 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen). To that end, the monitor offers Dynamic Pixel Management to guard against burn-in.

The DP-50SM accepts standard-definition 480i, progressive-scan 480p, and full 720p/1080i HD signals, scaling 1080i inputs for 720p viewing on the native 1,366 x 768-pixel screen. A 3D digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

The display also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

With its wide, 160-degree (H/V) viewing angles, this trend-setting plasma display is capable of handling all your multimedia and home theater needs while making a fashion statement at the same time.
