Summary: Kiss - Symphony
Review: I love this dvd. Kiss sounds the best I've heard them sound since putting the makeup back on. As listed above disk 1 has the Kiss Symphony story and Act 3. Disk 2 is the full show plus the Rove Live interview and performance. During Act 1 the editing is bad but Act 2 has less crowd shots still a lot of shot cutting and Act 3 has the least shot cutting and crowd. The editing is why I give this dvd 4 stars, the audio is great, pic quality is great. I've gotta say I think Kiss Symphony is better than Metallica S&M, I think the Symphony fits with Kiss better than it does with Metallica. The best part of Act 1 is Let Me Go Rock and Roll, Act 2 is Beth, you wouldn't believe the difference between this version of Beth and the vesion done with a tape. And Act 3 has the song that makes this dvd worth getting and it's Great Expectations. I was blown away by this song, I thought it would be good but I have to say for me this is the best song performed. To be the fist time performed live it sounds like they've been playing it for 27 years. You can't and will not go wrong with this dvd.

Summary: A Full Length Kiss Concert At Long Last
Review: Finally a full length live DVD release from probably the most visual band in rock history. There are two DVD's included with Disc 2 containing an entire full length Kiss Concert filmed in February, 2003 in front of 40,000 wildly enthusiastic fans in Melbourne, Australia. The concert is presented on Disc 2 in three Acts with Act 3 repeated on Disc 1 following an informative documentary on the preparation for the show including the band's rehearsals with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO). Act 1 is the four band members (Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Tommy Thayer doing a good job filling Ace Freley's shoes) in full make up performing six Kiss classics (See listing below). Act 2 is an semi acoustic set with a string ensemble from the MSO and Act 3 is Kiss on stage with the full MSO.

As far as the positives, the 5.1 sound mix is superb and the video quality is excellent. Kiss is in full makeup with the full stage show Kiss fans have come to expect. All songs are presented uncut and the band performs as well as they ever have although they did seem a little nervous at the beginning of Act 3 when they began playing Detroit Rock City with the full MSO. This quickly changed however and the band settled in to perform a tremendous show. A particular highlight of Act 3 was Kiss performing Great Expectations from the Destroyer Album with The Australian Children's Choir.

The only real negatives were that the video director seemed intent on constantly using all 45 camera angles available and sometimes the angles changed so rapidly as to become somewhat overwhelming. There also may have been a few too many crowd shots although seeing how enthusiastic the crowd was did add to the visual presentation.

Overall I think this a really good live video release and I would encourage all Kiss fans to buy this along with anyone wanting to see one of the best live musical acts in the world.

Here is the Track Listing:

Act One
Deuce
Strutter
Let Me Go Rock and Roll
Lick It Up
Calling Dr. Love
Psycho Circus

Act Two

Summary: The best Kiss concert DVD you will find
Review: First of all lets start this review with a great big ACE WHO?? Tommy Thayer more than holds his own in this DVD in replacing Ace.He played every song note for note and even seemed to be having a good time doing it.Ace once said that Kiss had a musical vasectomy when he left the band but in reality the only thing that got cut was his musical career.Thank god for the reunion tour right Ace!

If you want a DVD that captures the true atmosphere that is a Kiss concert by all means buy this.It has it all from the shots of the band members in their Hotter Than Hell era concert outfits, the great crowd responses, the pyro and the scene where the entire symphony orchestra is rocking out to Rock and roll All Nite. The 5.1 surround sound is awesome too.All you have to do is pop this baby in and crank it up and sit back and be entertained by the greatest rock band to ever set foot on any stage anywhere.Thats right boys and girls...i'm talking about KISS.....and yes...without Ace "rehab" Frehley.

Summary: Even perfect has its....
Review: THE GOOD
It's a 10. If you like Kiss it is impossible not to like this. The performance its incredible and tight and the so called magic its definetly there. The audience is a part of the show what makes it even better.

THE BAD
The editing. As everyone has been mentioning it over and over again. With all the beautifull girls in the audience you never have more than a second to take a look at them throwing some serious sexual rock and roll energy to the cameras.
The editing killed that. It had it all and killed it.
If the DVD is released again with different editing , I'am definetly buying it.... and I guess I am not alone.

Girls from Melbourne, you're beautifull and alive

Summary: Which song are they playing?
Review: First of all let me say Kiss is my favorite band, have been for years, and nothing will change that. So if your like me you probably already own this DVD.

I have to say the video editing on this thing is almost unwatchable. There is so much jumping around, the sound is edited like The Symphony CD and appears to just be layed over an emencely edited video. THE ENTIRE THING IS PRODUCED LIKE AN MTV VIDEO.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU REALLY PLAYING:
At some points it jumps around, and it is noticable Paul is using two different guitars in the same song with in 2 seconds THAT STINKS, what your getting is by no means a true live recording of the show.

The extras are the only thing I give two stars, I enjoyed the interviews and what little rehersals were shown.

I pick it up every now and then to watch it, hoping it changed, and I generally don't make it past the first song or two. SO it if your planning on a true Kiss experience, Go to one of the shows for $50.00, $75.00, 100.00, and so on up to a $1000.00 per ticket, (these are true prices not scalper) Don't look for one autorized by Kiss themseles, go to Ebay or trade for a bootleg of the show, this one is worth about 2 stars.

Summary: For you girl of the Melbourne DVD
Review: The concert it's wonderfull. Just Get it. No regrets guaranteed.

For you, blond girl from Melbourne that appears on the song "BETH"
and has the line " I'll be right home to you " on camera please write to me. I am your soul mate and I am going to marry you and make you happy forever( may sound too romantic , but it's true..destiny has knocked... ) "Sleepless on Seattle" is happening for real, but this time it's not just a movie.
I'll be waitiing...

Summary: Well done. Too much editing though.
Review: The pictures (video) are pretty but the editing is overwhelming. As the band plays the camera skips around thier faces as if the editor has a bad case of ADD. Thats not to say that the DVD is not good. In fact you may like this fast pace 1 1/2 second per shot feel ala MTV. I however thought it took away from the DVD in a big way.
The concept of Kiss and the orchestra does work and actually sounds good. They talk about it as though they invented the concept which or course we know they did not. (Metallica anyone?) The backstage stuff and the intellectual meetings were very interesting.
Ace Frehley was sorely missed in this project and one gets the idea that he knew it was time to lay this baby to bed (Kiss). He may be right; time has not been kind to these guys without the grease paint, they're downright fugly. All in all if your a big fan get it if not you can live without it.

Summary: Same Old Same Old
Review: As so many others have already mentioned, what's with the choppy editing? How about focusing on the band for more than 2 seconds at a time? The best thing about this concert is that there are actually some different songs on it, like GREAT EXPECTATIONS and SURE KNOW SOMETHING, but otherwise its the same songs everyone has heard a million times. Kiss's problem is what made them so great in the first place: their stage show. We've seen it and we want something more. They need to revamp their set list and think of some new ways to wow the audience. There should have been more Tommy and Peter as well. I'm sure being at the show was a lot more exciting.

Review: this is a good dvd if youre a kiss fan - couldve just been 1 dvd
and saved us 10 bucks-but thats not how gene simmons does business.
my problem is how kiss has gone pg 13 on us...id like to see them
release kiss confidential on dvd-their live show from the revenge
tour...at least when they cut to the crowd and showed hot babes
pulling up their shirts they didnt cut away and make us miss the
action- dvds are all about pausing and zoomin in on these moments
but none on this dvd -
