Summary: Victor Wooten is quite simply amazing.
Review: As most bass players know, Victor has an incredible ability to play the most highly technical music. In this DVD, you get a chance to watch his hands while he's playing some of his most popular tunes. Victor has a "thump-off" with his brother Regi, who plays guitar. Victor also plays with his long time friend, Oteil Burbridge. This DVD also shows how cool of a guy Victor really is! He has such a pleasing and simple talent to answer questions and is surprisingly humble. I originally ordered this and thought it was only 80 minutes. That is the run-time of the VHS, but the DVD has a run-time of 140 minutes due to the extra interview on the DVD. This is possibly the most helpful to bass players because he really shows you some cool stuff and more techniques than his onstage performance. Another thing to note; the video quality is just what you'd expect from a proffessionally produced DVD and the audio is superb considering most of it is a live performance. Overall this is a must buy for anyone who enjoys or plays slap bass or musicianship of the highest degree!

Summary: Awesome insights into Vic's playing style & technique
Review: Before I purchased this dvd I had read reviews that said it was a great dvd but not to buy it if you were looking for vic to show you how to play like him. Having watched the dvd many many times since then I have to DISAGREE. Just watching this monster in action has given me more tricks & insights into how to do many of the thing he does. Taking the sound I once thought were magic and impossible and making me see that they are not impossible or magic just hard to do (ie require lots of practice). I highly recommend this dvd to anyone especially if you are like I am, not having any exposure to good bass players. We learn from each other so we need to watch each other play. I would say that just from watching Vic play (& practicing) my skill level has double over the past 6 months, and I've been playing for 8 years now.

Summary: great bass, but only bass
Review: I'll be to the point. If you like Vic than this is a worthwhile buy because the bass playing is great. However, if you're looking for a good guitar trio like Vital Tech Tones or the Mike Stern band (if you saw the tour), you will be disapointed. Regi Wooten leaves somthing desperately desired as a guitarist. Actually, HE'S TERRIBLE. It's still a good buy just for the bass though, and Regi doesn't come on until a good way through the show. I recomend the DVD but I take away a star for the guitar work.

Summary: IF YOU PLAY BASS, BUY IT!!... PERIOD...!!...
Review: If you are a bass player you should buy this dvd...period.
It will open your mind to new ideas, concepts and skills. Victor
shows you some of his tricks yet keeps the groove at the same time. Lots of live jamming plus a fair amount of instruction and philisophical background+ WOOTHEORY(i created that name). Woo is incredible yet humble at the same time. my playing has increased by at least 50% just from this dvd. thanks Victor. IF you just like good live music in it's raw form. buy it.the bass is capable of more than you think!!... Arty G new jersey It's worth every penny!!...

Summary: Great Video - Great Bass & Guitar
Review: The video is excellent for any bass player. Victor goes over his slap technique in a very easy-to-learn manner. It's awesome just to watch him in action. Now that his tab book is out the video will also be a good reference for learing some great tunes such as "Amazing Grace" and "Norwegian Wood."

I also want to reply to a completely ridiculous comment made saying that Regi was "terrible." I have seen Regi live as well as on this DVD and Victor Wooten's VHS Bass Technique video and you have to be completely devoid of any musical appreciation and recognition of skill, for that matter, to say Regi is terrible. In my and MANY peoples opinion Regi is without a doubt one of if not the finest electric guitar players out there. I would put him up against Satriani, Malmsteen, Patrucci, Anastasio...anybody. I myself am primarily an electric guitar player and Regi is absolutely incredible. It really aggravates how someone can make such an ignorant comment about this incredible person and musician. Anybody playing with Victor Wooten is going to be world-class...including J.D. Blair, Joseph Wooten, Derico Watson, Divinity...especially the person who taught him how to play...which is Regi.

Anyway, this video is worth every penny. I encourage anyone to go check out the Victor Wooten band if they are playing in your area. The Flecktones are awesome but Vic playing with Regi and Joseph and JD or Derico is absolutley incredible.

Summary: Wow.
Review: This DVD was simply amazing. I initially thought the price was a bit steep, but I really enjoy Victor's playing. I'd seen him live once and wanted to be able to see it all over again with a slow motion button hand!

The DVD has a main portion of Victor playing which is quite good, but don't forget to check out the special features and the really nicely done portion where it's just Victor by himself talking and giving what amounts to a "personal lesson".

This is an incredibly well done DVD. If you're into Victor's music or skills, you've got to get this.

Summary: superlative dvd!!!
Review: This may be the best music DVD I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them. In the first minute of footage I knew it was worth every cent. Astonishing playing from Victor, his brother (who taught him starting at age 2...) and their friends! And it was obviously shot and edited by musicians; the camera was always exactly where I wanted it to be, not focused on someone's hairdo while a great riff was happening unseen. Best of all was the interview footage. Wooten is not only a phenonemal bass player but an excellent teacher; I can't believe how much I learned.

Summary: Even Bootsy shivers...
Review: To speak of Victor Wooten in anything less than the language of genius, would be like refusing to acknowledge the dawn in spite of the light. Unfortunately (for us), he is one of those rare persons who, though EXCEPTIONALLY talented, is content to labor behind the scenes and allow his staggering abilities to be enjoyed, yet rarely be allowed to be directly congratulated. I have seen Bela Fleck in a number of venues and have always been mesmurized by Mr. Wooten, but was usually so overwhelmed by the intensity and craftmanship of the music, I hadn't time to truly deconstruct it. In this video, Mr. Wooten himself explains and demonstrates his astounding technique, passion, and feel, both for the bass as for music in general. Anyone who has had experience with jazz, rock, or, frankly, ANY music will be greatly rewarded by this video; and bass players in particular will be instructed and awed (mostly awed) by this legendary musician.
