Rating: Summary: This is NOT the Cat's Meow Review: This is nothing more than a 2 1/2 hour long promotional video featuring lip syncing and horrible video directing. It's just plain bad. It is not even shot in front of a live audience! You cannot take this masterfull work and place it in a vacuum and expect a theatrical piece to emerge. Too bad this version will outlive all stage versions for future generations to see. But why am I complaining- your whole family can kill a Friday night for less than $20- if you want to see a world class musical you'll have to travel to New York or London and drop at least $60 a ticket.
Rating: Summary: See it ,if you saw it live. Review: I was able to watch CATS live when it came to Hawaii, and I loved it. I was excited to see the video, but was a little worried that it would kill the effect. However, it did nothing but heighten my appreciation of the perormance I had seen. In other words, if you've seen it live, it really helps take you back, and also helps sort out any parts that might have been a little fuzzy (like the pollicle dog part). On the other hand, if you watch the video before you see the actual perormance, it might not hit home for you. You may find yourself a little bored after the first act due to it's length, and due to the obvious fact that the camera is only able to capture a few cats up close at a time. Another thing too.... you can only see what the camera shows you. In short, the video is a good on for enhancing a special time shared in the theatre, or even for those who are familiar with the musical and don't have access to it. It's great for kids who like it too.
Rating: Summary: Great Video, almost purrrrfection! Review: When I first heard that CATS was going to be videotaped way back in 1996, I was excited, and was constantly asking Playbill Online when the release was, and it was postponed for a YEAR! To make a long story short, when the October release was announced, I was certain that I was gonna buy this tape, and I did. I LOVED it, and opening number gave me mental chills, and Gillian Lynne ASTOUNDING choreography (for Cats, I've never seen it live) was simply incredible....I saw her choreography for PHANTOM, and was impressed, but this was a totally different level! I simply adored the casting, Elaine Paige was ideal, Sir John Mils could've been better, but Ken Page, WOAH, talk about NO TALENT, he was sooo not in character, and he picked up his costume like a skirt at the end of act 1, HELLO!!!! The ensemble was outstanding and deserves an Oscar for best ensemble performance! The sets were beautiful, and the costumes were OK, I didn't like Cassandra's and Rum Tum Tugger, but the majority were wonderful! But one aspect of the WHOLE show blew me away, the lighting, whoever lit it, did an incredible job with changing the moods through lighting, so KUDOS to whoever you are! In addition, the make-up was "cute" and was really well done! Overall, this video is a MUST SEE, and I highly reccommend it!

Rating: Summary: Perfect! Excellent! What else can I say... Review: I love ALW musicals of that includes JCS and many more. My favortie action/fantasy film is Lord Of The Rings, my favortie comedy would go to 13 Going On 30, my favortie romance is Alex & Emma, and my favortie horror-musical is Little Shop Of Horrors. But, my favortie musical would have to be "CATS." Here is the story of how I came to love it: We got this tape in '98 and for 4 yrs. I let it pass me by. It was sometime after my 13th birthday (oh...I'm 14 now!) and I found this sudden urge to watch it. I was a little scared of Macavity, I mean who isn't? But after watching it a few times, I became use to him and fell in love with the musical. Now today, me and my twin watch it all the time. My favortie characters are listed below and the reasons why. FAVORTIE CHARACTERS TOMS _____ 1. Rum Tum Tugger- Uh, hello? He's H-O-T, and I love his H-I-P_'-S.! 2. Mungojerrie- Hard to tell why I love this character, is it the way he jolts his tongue out? Or the way he smiles? Or maybe it's the fact that he is brave? Wait, it's all of that! I think it's sweet when he looks at Munkustrap after getting knocked down and then he turns to Macavity and hisses! Awww...He loves Munku. Speaking of which... 3. Munkustrap- He is another hot tom! I think him, Mungo & RTT are the hottest. Not to mention, I love the way he sings! 4. Pouncival- He is so cute! Adorable! And so precious! 5. Alonzo- He is Munkustrap's best friend, I think they might be brothers...Anyhoo, he probably has broken the flirting record, but who cares? I love this tom! QUEENS ______ 1. Demeter- She is everyone's favortie! Of that includes mine, she is so sexy! 2. Jemima- The prettiest kitten out of the tribe, and by- God the sweetest! 3. Rumpleteazer- Brother of Mungo, and so pretty. She has this cute little giggle..which is fun to hear in the video! 4. Electra- THE CUTEST KITTEN IN THE WHOLE TRIBE!!!!! 5. Victoria- She's the lucky one...Did you see who her mate was during TJB? Well, this sums up my review! I love this musical! I LOVE the characters! And I ADORE the music in it! See this movie, you won't be sorry. P.S I hate Cassandra!!!
Rating: Summary: Jellicles do all that and more! Review: A fan of the musical, CATS for two years now, I jumped when I found out this excellent musical was coming to video (I hate the term "Rock opera" by the way...a musical's a musical no matter how little talking there is.) While I was extremely disappointed in the fact that they cut out Growltiger's Last Stand (Which had been my favorite number in the National Tour-which is the only version I've seen other than the video), the video amazed me. While the changes in the overture, were on the cheezy side, it still set up a wonderful mood for the audience. The filming was absolutely amazing. There were one or two close ups I would I have preffered not seeing (Like in Macavity: The Mystery Cat), but what is two or three seconds in comparison to the whole video adaption? The cast was EXCELLENT. I loved Elaine Page, first of all. Much better than Buckley's voice, I believe. Mr. Mistoffelees carried a beautiful essence with him where ever he went, and Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were beyond adorable. Partridge's version of Rum Tum, totally changed the character. But hey! Who says that's a bad thing, eh? The choreography was beautiful! The costumes were beautiful! The makeup was...pretty good. Not as detailed as the actual stage show's. Who cares though? This brings a whole new life to the mystical divinity of unashamed felinity! Now and forever!!
Rating: Summary: I love Cats!!!! Review: I am a thirteen-year-old mega-fan of the world's most loved musical, CATS. It's an amazing story about a tribe of Cats led by an old tomcat. The idea in the story is that cats are immortal and can be reborn an infinite number of times. One cat may be reborn every year. The cats try to impress their leader and prove that they should be given a new life. With a cast of lovable characters and stunning performances by Elaine Paige, Ken Page, Michael Gruber, Jacob Brent, and many more, CATS is the experience of a lifetime. You'll want to watch it again and again.
Rating: Summary: Cat-like Review: This is a bad acid trip flashback nightmare. I honestly rented this movie with very high hopes. I live in a small redneck town, on a dead end street, with a video store on the corner..the ONLY video store in town. So it takes some GUTS for a male to rent Cats. Thank God I only paid a lousy dollar fifty instead of fifty smackers on a ticket for the actual show. This is the sort of thing that makes countless husbands everywhere say things like, "A Broadway show...do we have to go?" and it also makes Broadway look VERY VERY cheezy to the passerby. I ignored all warnings and tried to stomach this video anyway.. COMPLETE RUBBISH!!! T.S. Elliot's poems were fine on their own..But set to music and stretched out for an hour and a half? Not good man, not good. I think I am going to have to listen to only the ambience of the pipes in my wall for a WEEK to recover from this accident..
HEED THE WARNINGS... or this might cost you a dollar fifty..possibly more. The end?
