Summary: Very good action/suspense movie
Review: Conspiracy Theory is an exciting suspense movie that is very good as long as you don't take it too seriously. The movie is that much better overall because of its two main stars, Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts. New York cabbie, Jerry Fletcher, writes a conspiracy newsletter who is paranoid about what "they" are doing all over the world. Jerry tries to explain the conspiracies to Alice, a Justice Department lawyer, who he saved from a robbery. However, someone is watching Jerry because he might know to much. This is an exciting movie with several twists and turns that will keep you interested throughout. There is something here for everyone with some action, comedy, and romance between Gibson and Roberts.

Mel Gibson gives a very good performance as New York cabbie, Jerry Fletcher. He is fully believable as the slightly off-kilter man who believes there is a conspiracy behind everything. Julia Roberts is equally as good as Alice, the woman trying to help Jerry if she can as he is chased down by government officials. Gibson and Roberts are very good together. Patrick Stewart is equally creepy as Jonas, the man leading the operation to capture Jerry. The DVD offers widescreen and fullscreen presentations, production notes, and theatrical trailers. For an enjoyable movie with an excellent cast, check out Conspiracy Theory!

Summary: Conspiracy Theory
Review: in response to the criticism: This isn't a terrible movie, but you just can't think about it too much. You have to not look at it too critically at all. This movie is like any other. To enjoy it, you must accept the premise and move on. If you can do that, you can enjoy this just fine. Otherwise, you'll hate it. Roberts does a solid here. Gibson does a very good job as a kooky sympathetic conspiracy therorist.

Summary: Good Entertainment
Review: So the plot is a bit silly. Not to mention far fetched. But that happens in nearly every movie nowadays anyways, that's what movies are for. But you know what this movie has that not too many others do? Suspension of disbelief.
This movie keeps you interested, it keeps you entertained. It plays out nothing like you think it will, and the ending leaves you wanting more. The plot was well written and thought out (like I said, a little far fecthed, but still), and Richard Donner did a fine job directing.
I was also very impressed with the acting in this movie. Naturally both Gibson and Roberts are talented, but a lot of times movies are just sort of tossed off. Not so with this one, to tell you the truth I think this is one of Robert's better movies, I really enjoy her character in this one. All of the acting is solid.
The only reason there aren't five stars is because during a scene in a barnyard Gibson explains everything and then Julia Roberts buys it all right there, a little to typical of women's characters in movies. Her character did break many other stereotypes, being very usefull and NOT a damsel in distress. I was glad to see that.
There aren't any good features on the DVD, but the movie itself is lots of fun. See it. I don't want to spoil the story, but I'll say it was a very well put together film, which I enjoyed immensely.

Summary: The most underrated Mel Gibson film ever.
Review: I have no idea why this film did so poorly in the theaters. The entire cast executes excellent performances. Mel Gibson especially shines. There are several scenes that touch the heart. This movie will make you laugh, cry, cheer, and leave you on the edge of your seat. If you're at all a fan of the suspense genre, *GET THIS MOVIE!*

Summary: This is one of Favorite Mel movies.
Review: I love this movie! This is a story about a nut taxi driver who keeps bugging a female asst DA. But the story is brilliant in how the story slowly unfounds leading to an exciting conclusion.

My favorite moment is when Mel is captured and the ADA escapes on foot, but the bad guys are running her down in a chopper with Mel aboard. "Picard" says, "don't watch she's toast". Mel responds "You haven't seen her run!"

Review: Why Julie Roberts, Why. The only reason this movie gets 2 stars is because Gibson's performance is great.

Summary: A Thrilling Movie Starring Some Great Actors
Review: Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts are among the highest paid actors in Hollywood, and the director of this movie, Richard Donner, is also the director of the Lethal Weapon movies. I figured that putting all these people together to make a movie would result in a great product. Though Conspiracy Theory isn't bad, it isn't that great, either.

Gibson plays Jerry Fletcher, a cab driver who obsesses over government conspiracies in his spare time. He pours over the newspaper everyday to try and uncover secret plots that the government doesn't want the public to know about. He's also infatuated with Alice Sutton (played by Julia Roberts), an attorney in the Justice Department. Jerry gets this idea that NASA is trying to kill the President by deliberately causing an earthquake in Turkey while he's there on a diplomatic visit. Alice, of course, thinks he's absolutely crazy. However, it turns out that Jerry might not be as crazy as everyone thinks as one of his conspiracy theories suddenly begins to materialize. Now Jerry must convince Alice that the government is out to get him, and together they must team up to uncover the conspiracy.

This is a pretty demanding role for Mel Gibson, but he's definitely equal to the task. This is the kind of role that earns an actor an Oscar nomination, though he didn't receive one. Julia Roberts' role in the movie isn't very demanding, and we never really get to see the full range of her acting ability, but she still does a solid job as the level-headed lawyer who is also trying to solve the mystery behind her own father's murder. Patrick Stewart is also in the movie, and he plays some sort of evil doctor in charge of running a government experiment that turns average people into raging assassins.

This is an action movie, so by rule, the feasibility of the plot is of less significance than the gunshots, chase scenes, and burning buildings. This is probably a good thing, considering that the plot is rather far-fetched. Most people would probably agree that there are secret conspiracies that the government does not disclose, but this whole project about turning humans into assassins doesn't seem very viable, neither do the attempts to capture Jerry Fletcher and extract information out of him. It all seems pretty bogus.

Regardless, I have to say that I was entertained. Though I might not remember what the movie was about a month from now, it was definitely two hours well spent. I recommend this movie.

Summary: clever suspense
Review: Funny, witty, suspenseful, well-written, well-acted. I still haven't figured out why it got the R rating, it should be PG-13. If you love to theorize about government conspiracies you will certainly find yourself laughing in this movie.

Summary: Mel Gibson is Brilliant
Review: If you have any doubt whatsoever that Mel Gibson is one of the greatest actors of our time, buy this movie and dispel those doubts once and for all. Gibson's portrayal of the unhinged Jerry Fletcher is nothing short of astonishing. Rambling in broken, unfinished sentences, and in facial expressions that speak volumes, revealing the depth of his character in layers, Gibson gives an incredible performance.

The conspiracy-laden plot has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, and the suspense is fantastic. Another EXCELLENT movie in Mel Gibson's enviable repertoire. Julia Roberts does a serviceable job in the movie also, though not a stand-out performance.

The only clinker in the movie is Lauryn Hill's version of Frankie Valli's classic "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You." Hill's version is a travesty that absolutely, positively RUINS that great song. Leave it to a modern-day singer/rapper to completely SCREW UP a classic song. Fortunately, you can fast-forward past it when the credits roll.

Other than that, great movie, highly recommended.
