Description:

Designed in Yamaha's traditional, unobtrusive black with a high-style piano-gloss speaker system, Yamaha's YHT-450 delivers good looks and quality sound for music and movie lovers with modest budgets. The system consists of the 6-piece, wood-finished NS-AP4400 speaker ensemble, the YST-SW015 subwoofer, and the trusty HTR-5740 home theater receiver, which pumps 85 watts per channel x 6 discrete channels and offers a host of options for rendering the type of surround sound best suited to your taste or programming.

The HTR-5740 is a powerful and versatile tuner and receiver that accepts a DVD player's Dolby Digital and Dolby EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, and DTS/DTS-ES surround signals (5.1- and 6.1-channel formats) and routes each channel to its designated speaker. Additionally, the receiver's 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter renders pristine sound from CDs and DVDs with linear-PCM (uncompressed) sound, while Yamaha's 32-bit Cinema-DSP processing gives you an additional 29 surround effects to enhance your movies and music. Front-panel audio/video inputs make it easy to play games or view camcorder footage through your theater, and the receiver offers a total of 4 A/V inputs, 2 of which handle component-video sources. The tuner section offers 40-station AM/FM preset tuning.

The 7-speaker complement includes the piano-black NS-AP4400 system for the front, center, and surround speakers and Yamaha's YST-SW015 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater sound. The NS-AP4400 ensemble features large, 3-way floorstanding front left/right speakers with 6.5-inch woofers, 3-inch midrange drivers, and .5-inch tweeters. The wide center-channel speaker is perfectly configured for TV placement, broad sound dispersion, and clear, focused sound from its dual 4-inch woofers and .5-inch tweeter. The three compact rear-surround speakers all use a 2-way design with 3-inch cones and matching .5-inch tweeters for seamless sound, all the way around.

The 120-watt, 8-inch subwoofer offers Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST), which generates incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass.

QD-Bass (Quatre Dispersion Bass) technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate sound with equal effectiveness in all directions. The sub's individual volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The sub has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When it detects an audio signal, it powers right up. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off.

Yamaha's BASS (Bass Action Selector Switch) tailors the sub's output for either video or music at the touch of a switch. The sub offers a continuously variable crossover (50 to 150 Hz) so you can carefully tailor the upper end of its output with the lower end of your main speakers' audible output.

All speakers included with the YHT-450 feature magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation.
