Description:

To create the YHT-750, Yamaha has united separately available components that happen to work well together, rather than manufacturing the cheapest system possible from a price-only consideration. The system consists of Yamaha's DV-C6660 progressive-scan DVD changer, the 6-piece NS-AP3500 speaker ensemble, the YST-SW030 subwoofer, plus Yamaha's HTR-5740 home theater receiver, which pumps 85 watts per channel x 6 discrete channels and offers a host of options for rendering the type of surround sound best suited to your taste or programming.

The HTR-5740 is a powerful and versatile receiver that accepts the DVD player's Dolby Digital, Dolby EX, and DTS/DTS-ES surround signals (5.1- and 6.1-channel formats) and routes each channel to its designated speaker. Dolby Pro Logic IIx generates discrete multichannel surround sound from any stereo source. Additionally, the receiver's 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter renders pristine sound from CDs and DVDs with linear-PCM (uncompressed) sound, while Yamaha's 32-bit Cinema-DSP processing gives you an additional 29 surround effects to enhance your movies and music. Front-panel audio/video inputs make it easy to play games or view camcorder footage through your theater, and the receiver offers a total of 4 A/V inputs, 2 of which handle component-video sources. The tuner section offers 40-station AM/FM preset tuning.

Yamaha's 5-disc DV-C6660 spins DVD-Video, VCD, SVCD, CD-R/CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and MP3 CDs, putting a range of audio and video media at your disposal. The player features both interlaced (for standard TVs) and progressive-scan component-video outputs (for use with compatible HD or HD-ready TVs). Other features include picture zoom, shuffle play, Favorite Track Selection (sequencing), CD Text display (with applicable discs), and Yamaha's patented PlayXchange system allows swapping out four discs while the fifth is playing.

The 7-speaker complement includes the 6-speaker NS-AP3500 for the front, center, and surround speakers and Yamaha's YST-SW030 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater sound. Each speaker in the NS-AP3500 ensemble uses a sealed, acoustic-suspension design with a 3-inch woofer and a .5-inch soft-dome tweeter. The center speaker houses dual 2.5-inch drivers for broader dispersion of midrange frequencies--critical for clarity of dialogue and other center-channel information.

The 130-watt, 8-inch subwoofer offers Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST), which generates incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass.

QD-Bass (Quatre Dispersion Bass) technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate sound with equal effectiveness in all directions. The sub's individual volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The sub has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When it detects an audio signal, it powers right up. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off.

Yamaha's BASS (Bass Action Selector Switch) tailors the sub's output for either video or music at the touch of a switch. The sub accepts a line-level RCA input only, and a handy phase normal/reverse switch makes it easy to phase-align the output of the subwoofer with the other speakers in the system (room placement greatly affects phase relationships).

All speakers included with the YHT-750 feature magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation.
