Summary: Great System, but it only worked for a month
Review: I bought this on Amazon, from J&R Music. Unfortunately I didn't unpack it; just brought it overseas with me to where I work. It has only been two months since I bought it and it's already causing me grief. Every so often the picture freezes, or the counter freezes on the DVD player and the only way to re-set it is by turning off the power. Sure, the system worked great at first, but only for that month. This is very dissapointing considering the cost and I can't return it as I am in a remote area.

Summary: very slow
Review: Overall the system is nice: it sounds fine for a low end system and the picture quality is fine. But I hate using it as a CD player. It takes forever to switch between disks, about 30 seconds. Loading or ejecting a disk take even longer. There is no way to tell what disks are loaded in the machine, and you cannot change one disk while it is playing another. These seem like minor things, but when you walk in to the room and turn on the stereo to listen to some music they add up to a 5 minute delay before you are actually listening to anything. Bleh. If I had it to do over I would get a system like my older one that just has a big tray instead of the fancy slot loader. I guess the people at Sony put looks ahead of function on this one.

Summary: Fantastic HTIB
Review: The Sony DAV-FC9 is a great system. I was looking for something easy for my family to use and this is it. DVD's, CD's , MP3's and your Pictures (for a CD or DVD)! Read the manual there are some limits, with pictures within a folder the max is 250. Yet the system shines as a 5.1 system and a SACD player.

The 5.1 system and the integrated Dolby, DTS and Cinema/Hall/Game Effects are great edition. You feel like you are in a theater!

Lastly SACD, Super Audio is the new digital format (DVD-A) work as well in the player, I prefer SACD yet this special CD's are recorded not in 2 channels but in true 5.1! I just started my collection and SACD are sonically superior to CD's and some are in surround sound.

This player is a true universal player and the system is a GREAT buy!!!

Summary: RE: good value
Review: The system is attractively styles, easy to set up, and has clear instructions and packaging. I set up the entire system in about 20 minutes. I then ran the test tone to configure the system in my living room. The system itself runs great, the sound works very well, the amp/dvd unit is sleek and compact.

I wanted something that did not cost a huge bundle that would provide affordable 5.1 sound. I found it.

Summary: Fantastic HTIB
Review: This system is a fantastic HTIB (Home Theater In Box). The DVD player provides a very high quality picture (especially if you take advantage of the component outputs). It may take a while to change CD's when listening to music, but if you just burn an MP3 cd then you can listen to aboyut 250 songs on one CD anyway. The head unit is also sleek and attractive.

The surround sound is fantastic with this system. With each channel at 100w and an ACTIVE (this is important) 150w subwoofer I don't see how anyone could complain about the sound.

A third point about this system is its asthetics. It looks beautiful in any living room and the floor standing speakers look REALLY nice. Sure I suppose you're paying a bit for the Sony name and the looks, but if you can have those 2 things with great sound and functionality then why not spend a little more and never have any regrets. I know I won't.
