Summary: Did I make a mistake?
Review: I had made the mistake of ordering this item before doing my homework and reading the reviews. Now, I'm nervous thinking I spent too much money on a piece of junk according to what a lot of you are saying. At least I do have a 30 day return policy where I purchased. I bought this as a Christmas gift for someone who really was wanting a quality sounding stereo, but I found the mini systems rather cheap and not much to choose from. I figured if Bose, it had to be nice sounding. Plus I figured I could get this with DVD player which would make it extra nice, but now I have my doubts of my purchase. If buying in Dec. 2003, have all the bugs been out or will I still need to get that software disk? These bad reviews really surprise me with the Bose. I had always thought they were top quality. Oh well...live and learn. I guess I'll just have to test for myself.

Summary: Perfect for my needs
Review: I live in a small home and a large 5 speaker system with sub-woofer,plus reciever and dvd/cd player was just too much. True, the 3-2-1 doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistels of a lot a less expensive systems, but the size, ease of assembly and most of all the sound was worth the initial sticker shock.

Summary: Not as true as I thought....
Review: I myself have not purchased this product but my brother had bought it along with a new WideScreen TV and before he even bought it was I kind of skeptical. So, of course I had to sit down and watch a movie and then play a few games of PS 2 on it and it is not a bad sound by any means. I mean come on now it is BOSE!!! But it just didn't give the theater sound that I thought it would provide, meaning I didn't have the feeling of the sounds behind me and what not. So, I am guessing if you are not into the FULL SURROUND experience and just want crystal clear sound overall...Then this is your choice!

Summary: Good idea...needs improvement
Review: I've been waiting and waiting for Bose to come out with DVD/CD music systems. I went to try it out and it took an act of Congress to get the demo DVD out and put in my CDs. In fact, at Sears you can't do it. So the fact that they dumbed down the display is bothersome. I then tried to find a good place in a song to demo but the fast forward feature fluctuated between slow and slower. It was annoying! Even budget systems can do this well. This may not be important to most people, but it is very important to me. I feel confident that in the next few years they will have an excellent product. In the mean time, competitors are rolling out their versions. I'm willing to wait and see what happens.

Summary: Has a -VERY- specific application
Review: It seems that Bose, with this system, is aiming it's sound at a smaller room, focusing more on crystal clear vocals and sound events. This system should be taken for what it's worth, two very clear front speakers, and quite a deep bass module. Works well in small rooms in a house, apartment complexes (watch the bass level though, people below you will be feeling it, even if it doesn't sound thud-dy in your room).

Maybe a good comparison would be that this system is geared towards the "My Dinner With Andre" or "Meet the Parents" type movies, where dialogue takes precedence over non-vocal sound events. Now "Saving Private Ryan" "The Matrix" and "The One" do sound absolutely wonderful on this system, you just need to remember that the surround sound is an effect/simulation (i'm not saying that it doesn't do a decent job of reproducing), not an actuality, and the anticipated chest-rattling thunder from the action won't be there as much as you might wish it to be. Although if you crank it up enough, your ears will definitely be filled with brain-rattling bass and effects.

I'd say all in all I am very satisfied with this product, although at times I do long for the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am thunder that comes with a more traditional home theater system. But what it can do for me, the more subtle and tasty dynamics, the quality of sound reproduction (Bose, to audiophiles, is definitely love it or hate it), and the simple functionality has made it quite a good purchase for me.

Summary: Paying... for Simplicity
Review: it's exactly as advertised...while it is not a "true" surround sound system (but Bose doesn't say it is)it does a credible job with THREE given speakers...this is important if like me, you have a tiny living room with low ceilings (typical Queens apartment)While I do believe [the price] is a bit...you must pay for the Bose sound and believe me, it does not disappoint... I recommend that you purchase it from a Bose store as they have a 90 day return policy and while I was in the store, I mentioned other reviewers' problems with the DVD (i.e. the drawer sticking, error messages and other glitches ) and the salesman said that Bose would send an update disk to reprogram the main unit which is probably some type of computer and that your satisfaction was pretty much guaranteed. The system is easier to set up than those multispeaker surround systems as there is no guesswork involved.

Summary: Problems with audio CDs
Review: My 321 (since returned) skipped while playing several factory audio CDs that are in mint condition and work on every other CD player, including Bose. I tried the same CDs on the store 321 unit and they skipped there too. I then tried them on their other units and they worked fine. I received nothing but "I have no answer" from the store staff. Poor quality for [the money] and even poorer customer service.

Summary: Set price almost everywhere but. . . .
Review: P>As far as the system is concerned, I must say it sounded much better at Sear set up then in my house. I agree that volume is an issue and it does lock up DVDs or CDs from time to time.

Overall, decent system. Not much punch but sounds nice. I agree that its not a surround system and one drawback is that you can't add any speakers even if you wanted to. Which also means that speakers and sub-woofer can't be used w/ other systems either (in case you move to a bigger house and needed more POWER).
