Description:

Who says buying a home theater has to be complicated? The YHT-800 includes the DV-C6480 DVD changer, Yamaha's five-piece NS-AP540 speaker ensemble, and the YST-SW105 subwoofer, plus Yamaha's HTR-5550 5-channel home theater receiver, which delivers 75 watts per channel and a host of multichannel decoding and processing options.

The HTR-5550 is a powerful and versatile 5-channel receiver, delivering 75 watts to each channel. The receiver provides plenty of processing, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS digital surround decoding. Yamaha's Quad-Field CINEMA DSP allows enjoyment of Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 sound formats in the Phantom mode (using 5.1 channels). The HTR-5550 provides 21 surround programs and offers a total of 41 proprietary surround environment variations.

Eager to take on home theater responsibilities, the HTR-5550 has five video inputs and two video outputs. Four of the inputs have S-video connections in addition to standard RCA composite-video jacks. Two component-video inputs and a component-video output assure the best possible video signal transmission (for use with compatible TVs).

The HTR-5550 has two audio-only inputs and one audio-only output. Including the audio portion of audio/video source inputs, the receiver provides three optical and one coaxial digital-audio inputs.

Yamaha's five-disc DV-C6480 does it all. It plays DVD-Audio discs as well as DVD-Video, CDs, and VCDs. The DV-C6480 can also playback CD-R/CD-RW discs, DVD-RAM discs, and MP3 CDs. It features both interlaced (for standard TVs) and progressive-scan video outputs for use with compatible HD or HD-ready TVs. Yamaha's patented PlayXchange system allows swapping out four discs while the fifth is playing.

As multichannel DVD-Audio discs require analog interconnects between the DVD player and the receiver, the DV-C6480 offer built-in Dolby Digital and DTS surround decoders so you won't have to switch between analog and digital receiver inputs when you switch from multichannel music to surround-encoded movies.

The six-speaker complement includes the five-speaker NS-AP540 for the front, center, and surround speakers, and Yamaha's YST-SW105 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater. Each magnetically shielded speaker in the NS-AP540 ensemble is a two-way acoustic suspension design utilizing dual 3-inch woofers and a .75-inch soft-dome tweeter.

The YHT-800 system owes much of its deep bass output to the YST-SW105's Active Servo Technology. The sub features an 8-inch driver and 100-watt amplifier to deliver the sonic punch needed for home theater. A volume control and two-position high-cut filter help ensure a seamless transition from the subwoofer to any existing full-range speakers.

All speakers included in the YHT-800 feature magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation.
