Summary: Excellent film- deserves a chance from everyone!
Review: This film has it all- action, suspense, romance, drama, comedy, adventure, mystery, and, yes, even tragedy. It has scenes that can be traced back to both Doyle and Speilberg. The acting is excellent- all the actors portrate their characters exceptionally well- especially Rowe (Sherlock Holmes) and Higgins (Rathe/Ehtar). The storyline that suggests Holmes and Watson met as adolescents (of course, at school) is kind of neat. The film had many references to Holmes' future (Ex: his hat, violin, cloak, pipe, bachelorhood.) Although the special effects are a little intense for a Sherlock Holmes story, they are also really awesome and just make the film better to watch. It will have you holding your breath, sitting on the edge of your seat, and you'll have a ton of fun doing it- I garuntee it. (The end is really touching, but those of you out there who are really sensitive will be crying your eyes out.) Highly reccommended.

Summary: Loved It Again!
Review: When I first saw this film in the theatres, I was a teenager. Many aspects of the film scared me, and I wasn't sure I liked it very much at that time. Now years later, I caught part of the movie on T.V., causing my interest to come back. So much so that I searched high and low for the video. I rented it, loved it, and watched it many times over the course of the week. When trying to buy the film, I found out it was out of print, but was told to try amazon.com. What luck, I found it and purchased it! This is truly a wonderful film, and for those who find the opening scenes too horrible to watch, I urge you to watch this film until the VERY end. Even though the plot is somewhat strange, it flows nicely and is quite intriguing. Also the performers are fantastic. Unfortunately, I have yet to see the principal actors in anything else. Nicholas Rowe is a perfect Holmes, and Alan Cox is a winning and amuzing Watson. I love the references to Holmes later life; the pipe, cloak, being a bachelor, etc. And the humor and suspense are top rate. Give this film a try, it is truly one of the best action mysteries I have ever seen--too bad it was not a box office hit and is so scarce to find!

Summary: Great!
Review: I love the Sherlock Holmes books, and this movie was definitely a good portrayal of the characters. Nicolas Rowe made a cute Sherlock, might I add. I liked the plot, too. I reccomend it to anyone who likes the books.

Summary: Love this movie...
Review: I have been searching for this movie for years and finally found it. Only unfortunate thing is that this movie is not made on DVD as yet..popularity may be a factor. Overall, this film is indicitive of the Speilberg genre and is satisfying if you are a fan.

Summary: Fans of the Doyle books will not like this movie.
Review: This movie really has nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes (In the books, Holmes and Watson did not meet until they were adults) but this movie presumes the events that might have happened if they had met while teenagers. There is nothing special about this movie. The script by Colombus is way off target when it comes to the characterization of Holmes. the acting is not very good and the climax is quite anti-climatic. Please, do not watch this movie. Enjoy the Basil Rathbone/Sherlock Holmes movies instead. or other more faithful adaptations of Sir Arthur's great detective.Rather incomptent direction from Levinson and fake effects work.

Summary: It's All Here!
Review: I don't think I can add anything, so I'll just be one more voice saying that this flick is perfect! It has everything: story, adventure, visual beauty, characters(!), humor, excitement, action, special effects..... (It's coming on TV right now!--I'm gonna watch it again!) I'm waiting patiently for the DVD!! RillyRilllyRillyPatient!!! (Rilly!) [...].... (5-stars!*****) ....

Summary: A Great Portrayal of Sherlock Holme's Youth
Review: This is one of my top ten greatest films of all time. Wonderful scenery and great acting make this an excellent film. Although the plot is a bit overdone, its better then underdone! If you are a true fan, you make out that the villian in this film is really Holme's arch rival throughout life. What? he dies in the movie? Wait until the final credit is done at the end to see...

Summary: Schoolboy Sleuths
Review: This is a beautiful, creative, yet true-to-Doyle little film. Although an Oscar nominee, shamefully little known.(!) Watson (Alan Cox), due to lack of money transfers to Holmes'(Nicholas Rowe) boarding school, in wich they fall into a mystery, along with Holmes' girlfriend, Elizabeth, (Sophie Ward) that involves devil worshipping Egyptians. This sounds tacky, but I beg of you to give it a try. Want to know where Holmes got that hat? Or why he was always a bachelor? Find out here. A wonderful blend of humor, tragedy, and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Cute British schoolboys in leads a plus.

Summary: true holmes
Review: After reading the novels and seeing the sherlock holmes mystries on tv. I defently say this film falls into a sherlock holmes genre. I would think Arthur conan Doyle would be quite please the way his charater was potrayed and would make Holmes that way as a child. The ending after the credits was most imlumminating.

Summary: An underrated charmer!
Review: This is definitely a movie to see! It's a delight for adventure-seekers, Sherlock Holmes fans, lovers of special effects and costume drama-addicts. It deserved to become a blockbuster, but maybe has been a casualty of the teenage-films invasion of the mid '80...a pity! It was impressive on the big screen of my youth, but even on your home screen it won't disappoint you. Go see it! And ask those casting directors to employ sweet Nick Rowe for some starring roles again...
