Summary: Begins Well, but The End Looses Steam
Review: The opening to the film is definitely a great hook. Taking shots of a comically cliché suburban area is set perfectly to be destroyed. After two minutes, you'll be dying to find out how the whole movie ends. Kyle MacLachlan (who you may notice as Charlotte's ex-husband from "Sex and the City") opens the film in the usual way that Lynch does so well; slowly.

After visiting his father in the hospital, he heads home across a field, and while looking for rocks to throw, finds a severed human ear. Though he takes it to a police officer, things don't begin to smooth out. He's shut-off from the case, so his only information comes from the daughter of the officer to whom he entrusted the ear to, played by Laura Dern, who assists him in trying to unlock the mystery. It's a normal Lynch picture after that, which is to me, a good thing; a sinister mystery, with intriguing characters that seem to know much more than they're saying.

One of the films main weaknesses is that it was made in the 80's and BOY can you tell. Isabella Rossellini's poofy, stupid hair is perhaps responsible for making this movie less than it could have been. The sex scenes are comic, and unrealistic. I found myself laughing with reckless abandon when Rossellini demands MacLachlan take off his clothes at knife-point. I'm not immature; I didn't laugh at the same line in 'Eyes Wide Shut'.

Also, the last half hour or so is DEEPLY disappointing. At first, the movie was twisting and turning more dangerously than a poorly constructed carnival ride (in a good way). Then, we move into the boring finale. It's about as surprising as a Scooby-Doo episode; it's exactly who you think it will be, and there's really no surprises. Scooby-Doo at least TRIED to make you think it was someone else. Here, it's like having someone fall asleep on you, just before you both climax.

See 'Eyes Wide Shut' instead.

Summary: Another Lynch disaster
Review: David Lynch has definetely not let us down with this one. He almost made it as boring as Mulholland drive. The only thing that makes this movie good is Denis Hopper, and his ability to act so evil. Everything else in this movie is boring, dragged along, and out of place. It's a good story, but you have to make it exciting. Plain and simple, this movie is boring, and is badly directed.

Summary: she WORE BLUE VELVET
Review: WOW WHERE DO I BEGIN? this was one lousy excuse for a movie.OK LET ME START HERE - the ear in the begining of the film looked plastic and fake. THIS MOVIE WAS DISTURBING I FOUND (( HAPPINESS)) LESS DISTURBING THAN THIS. the insanity was out of control here. dennis hopper was a lunatic.- the whole 50s music and look drove me nuts. SHE WORE BLUE VELVET HAS TO BE THE MOST ANNOYING SONG IN HISTORY. the lady wore the same clothes every day in the movie as well as the other charcters it seemed and the blue velvet theme was out of control- it WAS JUST TO MUCH. CAN U UNDERSTAND THAT? I DONT even understand how the dude was hot for that lady in the blue velvet - she was unnatractive and did u see the nude scene? she has 2 diffrent sized breasts. AND THE BLONE WASNT CUTE EITHER . i just wish there were more attractive ladys in here and i wish the story was better. THIS WAS SAD - THIS MOVIE IS A VERY SAD EXCUSE FOR A FILM. DAVID LYNCH I WILL NOW GO RENT UR OTHER MOVIES AND I WILL WATCH THEM HOPEFULLY THEY WONT BE AS LONG AND BAD AS THIS ONE , THANK U VERY MUCH AND HAVE A NICE DAY TO U ALL

Summary: A Subversive Classic - One of the Greatest Movies Ever Made
Review: It's been called everything - kinky, creepy, disturbing, erotic. Call it what you want, but don't deny that director David Lynch's twisted journey into the dark side of American suburbia remains a landmark in cinema history - not to mention the scariest movie ever made. The plot itself isn't much - Kyle Machlaclan's naive Jeffery Beaumont stumbles upon a severed ear in the grass one day and discovers a web of crime, perversion, and, yeah, Isabella Rosselini eerily crooning the title song. What makes Blue Velvet so important is the way that Lynch creates an environment of emotions, nightmares, and desires as opposed to a plot-driven machine. Years down the road, it's still difficult to remember whodunit in Lynch's film, but Frank Booth's gas-hissing hysterics, those bugs beneath the grass, and that perfectly white picket fence linger on like a nightmare that enters the real world. Dennis Hopper's masochistic Frank Booth is perhaps the most memorable character from the film, but it's Machlachlan's Jeffery that really makes us shudder. His willing descent from his Leave It To Beaver-esque world into Velvet's realm of violent sexuality reminds us all that we're just a step away from madness.

Summary: She wore blue velvet ...
Review: When I first saw Blue Velvet back in 1986, I couldn't understand what was so special about it. Now seeing it again in 2003 I can begin to appreciate it. I say that, because it's difficult to interpret David Lynch films. I think the best approach is to just take it in, don't try to think too much about it, and then think more about it later. Blue Velvet isn't as complex as Mullholland Drive, but it still requires some thought. Awesome performances from Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rosellini.

DVD SUMMARY:
This is where we have hit the jackpot! Fantastic transfer to DVD. Some great extras too, but also a sad revelation that Lynch originally shot 4 hours of film but was requested to trim it down to a 2 hour film. Apparently the other 2 hours are now lost. Let's hope they find it one day. The DVD provides a montage of some of this 'lost' footage. In a nutshell, the montage is pure gold for fans of this film.

Summary: Dennis is the reason I gave it 2, otherwise 1 star
Review: I love hoppers role in this movie, he is evil and twisted enough, but that's about as far as the good goes on this movie. ..... I think the movie began aggravating me around the point when the sang the blue velvet song for the 20th time in the film (the whole thing) bunch of time killing if you ask me, as sign of a bad movie!! The character of hopper is enough to keep you watching this, and waiting to see what will happen next, but that's about is far as it goes, boring movie, stupid movie - because anyone else in this ladies situation would have done something to get out of the situation. Verdict: if you like hearing Blue Velvet 20 million times, get this!

Summary: a masterpiece??- i think not
Review: I just purchased this movie from amazon and just got done watching it and this is definetly no masterpiece like the reviews on hear that i read. It is definetly bizarre and stupid at times like the reviews say but this is nothing great.i found alot of parts of the movie to be boring and dragged on n on.I love films that are controversial and bizarre at times but this movie was just out there, not in a good way either in a boring stupid crazy way. It just wasnt good. I admit the charachters did a great job portraying a bunch of insane people and played thier roles well but i just didnt think the story was that great. I gave it 3 stars cause it had somthing going for it but basically it was boring and that annoying blue velvet song i couldnt wait for the movie to end- oh yea and to the reviewer who said ( people dont get the film or understand it) - i understood it and it was still boring and the story nothing knew or great. I dont know what all the hype behind this movie is about- all it was was a wierd mystery story with insane characters who i felt no sympathy for at all and i didnt enjoy watching them either-they didnt interest me at all only the kyle macglachlan character.my opinion is either skip it or just rent it or see it once then decide.

Summary: Six questions to see if you will like Blue Velvet.
Review: (1.) Do you find it interesting that, just beneath the Midwest's thin veneer of "American Gothic" wholesomeness, there lies a vast underworld of drugs, prostitution, etc.? (2.) Do you think that, in any given movie, the quality of Dennis Hopper's performance is roughly proportional to the insanity of Hopper's character? (3.) More broadly, do you find mental illness to be interesting? (4.) Do you appreciate romance/love but avoid "romantic comedies"? (5.) Do you find yourself "not really offended" when a movie includes significant sex, violence, and language? (6.) Most importantly, do you find yourself liking movies that are just plain weird? If you answered yes to most of these questions, then you will probably find this movie to be worthwhile.
