Summary: Highly Enjoyable! Funny and Touching!
Review: Great movie! I enjoyed this movie very much. The performances were great and the characters were very engaging. This movie will especially hit home if you are transexual or are close to someone who is, as you will really be able to identify with how the characters feel, especially Steven Mackintosh's character. They deal with everything from family reactions/difficulties to discrimation from the police and difficulties on the job. The movie left me with a feeling of hope and optimism for the future of all sexual minorities.

Summary: Addictive and involving film
Review: I saw this film on television in the UK in early 1999. I was quickly addicted and enjoyed every minute of this rather unconventional comedic romance. The acting is first rate, with a story line guaranteed to grip even the most synical viewer.

The story follows two school boys, best friends who grow up and loose touch with each other. When an accidental meeting between the two of them occurs some years later, that they realise how much things have changed. One of the boys is now a girl ! The events which follow take the viewer for an emotional ride through an intelligent and unpredictable story, which is unlike any film I have ever seen.

I liked this film because of it's plot, acting and motorbikes (yes, I am a motorbike freak).

An excellent export from Britain.

Summary: A point of view from a real transsexual.
Review: I saw this film. True, the acting isn't perfect, but I will defend it's accuracy from the point of view of a real transsexual. Progesterins are used to prevent the production of testosterone in the body - I take them. TRANSSEXUALS LUBRICATE NATURALLY - that part is accurate.

Seeing the show from a more emotional than critical point of view, I found it very appealing. I related a great deal to what she went through, and will recommend it to people who are trying to understand some of the things Transsexuals and their significant others experience at the hands of others.

Summary: Surprisingly Wonderful Movie
Review: I stumbled onto this movie and was mesmerized not only by the storyline but by the wonderful performances of both Steven Mackintosh and Rupert Graves. I found myself watching this movie over and over. I was especially drawn to the performance by Rupert Graves. You could see and feel what his character was seeing and feeling. I was delighted with this movie and would highly recommend this movie to others.

Summary: An *Awesome* - BUT - "True* Movie
Review: I throughly enjoyed this movie from beginning to end! When I first saw it, I cried because I am a Transsexual (a label given by the Psychiatric profession to people "Born" with this medical condition). I watch this movie at least once a week because I "Totally" relate to what Kim went through during her Transition as well as her life afterward especially in dealing with her family, friends, co-workers, law enforcement, etc. The actor who portrayed Kim did an "AWESOME" performance in his portrayal of a woman -- in her walk, talk, mannerisms, reactions to every situation that she found herself in, and her quiet moments by herself.

The actor who played her friend "Printice" did a wonderful job in portraying her close friend from earlier in life even if he still exhibited immaturity in different situations. His reactions to Kim, what she looked like as a woman, her attitude towards him, his reactions to her, and the situations he found himself in were wonderful because they depicted the reactions that most people would find themselves in if they experienced the same things that Printess did. I HIGHLY recommend this film to everyone!

Summary: One of the sweetest relationship movies I've seen in forever
Review: I was really moved by this film. I found myself cheering on Prentice and Kim, hoping they would hook up! The "sex" scene was very erotic and Prentice's character very convinving in his emotions for Kim at the crucial moment. I've always loved both these actors and own several videos of theirs...this one is the best yet!

Summary: Stupid and unrealistic.
Review: I would never recommend this movie to anyone under the age of 50. This movie makes immoral suggestions, and was hard to follow. The movie did not make a lot of sence to me. The plot had so many holes. The thought was interesting, and the idea of making a movie with this setting was a new and different idea. However, the scripting could be a little better. The casting was good, however.

Summary: The Brits do it again.
Review: If your sole point of transsexual movie refrences is "The Crying Game", you *have* to check this movie out.
Far from the contreversy of "The Big Secret", this movie paints a more realistic portrait of the actual, day-to-day life typical of a modern woman, (who happens to be transsexual), trying to make it through the relentless grind of society and relationships.
It is sweet in watching the re-kindled relationship between Kim and Prentice, old school mates, and the mind-wrapping required to adjust to the reality that is.

A sample quote from the movie that illustrates this:

Prentice: (Slightly stand-offish) "I'm not gay, you know.."
Kim:(with a resigned sigh) "Neither am I"

Although it doesnt tap into some of the darker aspects endured by Transpersons, it certainly tells a story not entirely like our own..with a twist.

Summary: good music, good acting, good story!
Review: it's boy meets girl -- though they already know each other from having gone to school together many years ago... an ALL BOYS school. yes, the girl used to be a boy. This is a British film and it has lots of 1980's Brit-alt-rock - the songs ROCK! ("Ever Fallen In Love" by The Buzzcocks for example) The story is fast-paced and doesn't bore. a bit of drama comes when the two friends are tossed into a paddy wagon by some acerbic cops. one of the themes in this movie is just precious: with a simple kind action you can positively alter someone's psyche forever!

Summary: Well balanced
Review: Prentice and Kim the main characters apparently are total opposites; but become stronger as they help one another in many levels to overcome flaws, fears, insecurities etc.

There are not many transgender films, and specially one with a happy end which can be credible.
Though Prentice seems rough and unpolished, he remains noble and good hearted since his days in High School, while not protecting Kim as much he learns to accept her and tries to discover the ways he can relate to the "person". The relationship is one of friendship where he has no barriers to express what he thinks and feels, he sees Kim as his buddy and later on as his female buddy-lover, without ever loosing respect.

Kim, though remaining fragile, distrustful, distant and insecure, lets herself be beautiful, and most important of all to be loved. The table turns, and prentice is the one who needs the protection/help from Kim.

They both step out of their day to day routine, to experiment life without prejudice and to see through their own eyes who they are. And perhaps that is the clue to a healthy relationship, to work as a team.

Good acting, good movie, good end.
