Summary: Cute but typical
Review: So-so at it's best. Great scenery. Good-looking men, but so typically "chick-flick". No real depth to the characters, and the Diane Lan'es character doesn't seem so transformed. Just bored and helpless for no reason.

Skip it. Can't beleive this was a true story. Could have been better protrayed.

Summary: Excellent movie
Review: This movie is for the dreamers of the world. It is not the sappy love story I was looking for, but it was inspiring. Even though it wasn't totally belieavable, it made me feel great about being a woman! Diane Lane is a very wonderful, talented, sexy woman who is a great role model for all women.

Summary: I wasn't sure I would like this movie.
Review: But I did! Just like everyone else, I now want to buy a villa in Italy and have an affair with a hunky Italian - *sigh*. Until I get a winning lottery ticket I'll have to be satisfied with watching Diane Lane do it in the movie. I didn't give it 5 stars because parts were slow and sometimes Lane gets on my nerves. However, the scenery makes up for any problems I have with pacing or acting - it's just wonderful!

Review: I loved watching this movie. It was an uplifting story with twists at every corner. I highly recomend it.

It made me want to return to Italy.

Summary: WANT TO TORTURE YOUR FRIENDS?????
Review: Purchase this DVD and give it to them. This is a stinker from the Disney corporation. DIANE LANE is a great actress but even she is unable to salvage the lame screenplay from staying afloat! Stay away from this horrible long dull film!

Summary: Better Than The Jaded Masses Would Have You Believe
Review: O.K. People. You know enough about the basic plot from reading the DVD information. I liked this movie because it reminded me of several quirky movies I identified with. It has elements of Beaches and Shirley Valentine and, contrary to the negative reviews I have read here, that CAN be a good thing. It is a very visual movie and Ms. Lane feels her character so much that you feel with her and that speaks volumes. Her character does point out that she is making choices because she is tired of playing it safe so yes, she does sleep with a man she has barely met. If you are one of those people who quietly cheer the fed up employee who tells the boss to shove it and wish you could too, you will understand this movie. BUT. If you are one of these "sheep people" who lets the entire world dictate what they do to the point that you almost make a left turn in traffic just because the car in front of you does.... YOU WON'T. Touching movie with stunning visuals and a glimpse into what COULD happen if someone who has been through a life changing event simply lets go and runs towards the light of possibility. Real life? Who ever said a movie has to be about real life? What constitutes real? Unlock the braces on your brains and just watch...

Summary: Terrible stinker!
Review: What a stupid movie! There was nothign admirable in the main character. What the heck was she thinking in sleeping with a man she hadn't even known for a day! That is not realistic at all. The whole storyline had no logical sequence. Stay away from this movie.

Summary: Terrible movie
Review: I rented this movie with the highest of expectations due to the things I had heard talked about it, like that it was funny and romantic and had wonderful scenery. What a disappointing story!
The story had no sense of direction. It seemed badly glued together, as if the scriptwriters were saying, "we'll make her a divorced woman...and then we'll make her go on a gay tour...and oh wait, let's make her have no morals and have sex with a man she hasn't known for even one day...and lets make her flirt with the real estate man." All in all, the story turned out to be pretty stupid with nothing to admire in the main character.

Summary: This is what it takes to recover from the pain of divorce?
Review: The scenery was beautiful! The parts about the renovation of the villa were both interesting and funny! Diane Lane is luminous in the role of Frances!

Okay, now that I have that out of the way, let me tell you what I really think -- this movie was about as deep as a raindrop. It couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a travel log or a two-hankie chick flick.

It really goaded me that ''Frances'', in order to recover from the heartbreak of divorce, discerned that the only thing she really needed to do in order to repair the damage to her poor heart was have sex with some guy she barely knew. It wasn't about renovating the villa; it wasn't about making friends with her new neighbors; it wasn't even about being the rock-in-a-storm buddy for her pregnant lesbian friend -- it was MOSTLY about attracting a man long enough to have sex with him. "Yes! Yes! I've still GOT IT!" she announces ecstatically to the picture of the Blessed Virgin Mary that decorates her bed. As if the BVM should be expected to warmly congratulate Frances on her promiscuity.

I would have admired "Frances" and the screenwriters if the renovation of the house could have served as a metaphor by taking what was old and crumbling and worn out (Frances' life with her unfaithful ex) and turning it, despite its flaws, into something improved and lovely, with all the cracks and flaws seamlessly plastered into a whole piece again. It was sitting right there, waiting for them. Instead, what we as the viewers got was just another sad little tale about how a woman ain't nothin' if she ain't got herself a man, even if she has friends who love her and an Italian villa to drool over.

Summary: Simply beautiful
Review: What's the problem with you people? I think this is the best romantic film made in the last 5 years. The storyline is splendid(at least this one has a story, not like any other film) and also veryyyy beautiful scenery: the flowers, the field ,the cottage. At first I thought this was just simply a stupid chick flick but the more I saw the more I got swept away with it.Once you see it,you can't stop seeing.Ms Diane Lane gives awonderful performance, she really knows how to express the character's feeling:sad ,joy,disapointed...It also has a nice ending though(although i don't really like the guy Ed, I prefer Marcello)
I think this is a movie to watch and enjoy!
