Rating: Summary: Unforgotten Love Review: Sweet Home Alabama starring Reese Witherspoon as Melanie Carmichael and Josh Lucas as Jake Perry was the romantic comedy of 2002. Andy Tennet did a great job directing this film, adding plenty of cold hearted scenes for all of the characters and the follow up scenes to make you love them for it. The film is about that first love. The first love is a person's greatest love and this movie proves that. As we all grow up and sometimes apart, we yearn for the good old days when what we thought was terrible is what we wind up searching for our whole lives. Melanie and Jake met in a small simple town in Alabama when they were ten years old. They had there first kiss with each other and every other experience for that matter. When the two were a couple in high school, Melanie became pregnant. As most small town people do, they got married. Melanie and Jake wound up losing the baby to unforeseen circumstances, as Melanie would go onto dealing with the event one way, Jake would go the other. Unable to deal with all of her emotions Melanie ran. She changed her last name, moved to New York, and became a fashion designer. She was determined to leave that life behind and start a brand new one. After several years passed Melanie became very successful and would find another great love, Andrew. Andrew unexpectedly pops the question to Melanie, she reluctantly accepts. She is now having to face her past in order to get officially divorced and move on. Melanie flows back into the small hick town of Alabama, her feelings are mixed as she is driving through town, memories are flooding. The onset of Jake and Melanie meeting is rough, the two fight and Melanie goes to jail. This all puts Melanie back into her old life. Melanie and Jake have a long past, it was not one that Melanie could pretend never happened. Melanie had successfully run, but she hadn't dealt. Her feelings were Jake kept getting stronger the longer she stayed. She realized that she had gotten her life to a point where she could be proud herself. Her relationship with Andrew was great they had truly loved each other, however she could never again love someone as much as she had loved Jake. She decides to go back to Jake and marry the only man she has truly loved. This movie is a great feel good movie, but hardly believable. These types of situations don't happen in these times. There are millions of fish in the sea.
Rating: Summary: A Great Movie! Review: First let me say I love this movie. Yes, I suppose it's a little predictable. But who cares?! I love the way Reese Witherspoon seems to dive into every role she plays. She brought enough of her own unique talent into this movie to make it worth watching again and again. It was funny and romantic and sweet and endearing. Oh and I loved the little clips at the very end that shows a small glimpse into the future. I truly enjoy every movie I see Reese Witherspoon in and this was no exception.
Rating: Summary: Hmm... Review: Well I find it to be a pretty good movie. The only bad thing I find about this movie is the way they make people look in the south. Maybe it is just that small of a town. I live in Alabama myself, never seen a city like that one. What do I know right? Anyway, the movie itself was pretty funny, and I think Reese looked better than ever in it! You couldn't notice her chin as much. Oh yeah, there is a scene where they are at a dog cemetery(??).. enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Dreadful Review: I got to see this for free and I still felt ripped off. The story is awful. There isn't a single ounce of character development, so poor Ms. Witherspoon comes across as a total beyotch. It does have the distinction, though, of containing the most emotionless marriage proposal scene ever (the materialistic ringfest at Tiffanys) and the character with the dumbest job ever (lightning-sand sculptor). And if it was funny, I forgot to laugh. Or, more likely, they forgot to put in the jokes.
Rating: Summary: She's Elle with an edge! Review: Reese Witherspoon takes the best parts of her "Legally Blonde" character Elle Woods and turns her into a veritable steel magnolia. Melanie Carmichael is a young successful designer in New York who has just gotten glamorously and publicly engaged to the mayor's son. She has NO successfully divorced her first husband (about whom her new fiancee has no clue) back in Pigeon's Creek, Alabama. She heads back to her hometown for the first time in 7 years to make him finally sign the papers. She's not all sweetness and light -- she's human. Sometimes too human as deonstrated in the scene where she gets drunk in a local bar and insults all her childhood friends, proclaiming herself as better than them. It's sad. This is a cute little movie but not that great. It's typical pablum that is amusing at best. I am frankly sick of all the Southern fried bull that Southerns are so downhome and friendly and Yankees are evil. I can't wait till someone finally does a movie about someone from New York living in the South and deciding to return to THEIR roots because their new life isn't all it's so romatically cracked up to be.
Rating: Summary: Very predictable Review: This movie is 100% chick flick and is predictable all the way through. It's not a bad movie though if you're bored or have nothing to do. It's over rated but sweet and homey.
Rating: Summary: Reese Witherspon is very good Review: I donnot think this is a great movie, but I saw it the other day and the thing that saved it from being terrible is the main actress who is named Reese Witherspoon. Yes, she's the same one from the "blond" movies about the shallow blond girl running around and doing stupid things. She's very good in this one and if you are in the mood for something light, this is a good option. You should enjoy her performance!
Rating: Summary: better than i expected Review: one of my friends wanted me to watch this with her. i don't generally like her style of movies and vice versa, but i really enjoyed this, so much i borrowed it afterwards. i even made my mom and hubby watch it. i'm not into 'girl' movies or all the romantic junk that girls like to watch, but this had a good twist. i plan to buy this movie and would recommend it!
Rating: Summary: LOVE IT! Review: Reese Witherspoon does it again! This hit is one of the best movies she has been in. Although Legally 1 and 2: Red, White, and Blonde were deffinite greats, Sweet Home Alabama hits the big time! And, this is for whoever said that Reese was on Friends as Rachel's bratty younger sister, that was Christina Applegate who was the younger sister, not Reese Witherspoon; get your facts straight!
Rating: Summary: Pretty bad..... Review: First of all, this thing is full of stereotypes. Being from the South, I was rather offended at the way people were portrayed in this film. Not everyone plays Civil War or carries a hunting dog around. I'm usually a fan of Reese, she was great in Cruel Intentions, but her performance is nothing special here. It's not really her fault, she had a crappy script. This movie really isn't worth your time, please don't waste your hard earned money on it. Pretty weak collection of extras, Dolby soundtrack, and a French language track.
