Summary: Excellent DVD, excellent movie
Review: I had seen this in theaters but had forgotten how good this Gilliam movie was. Content is a 4.5, video is 4.5, and sound is 5.0.

The extras on the DVD include a long feature on the making of the movie, which I found fascinating. The passion and tensions of Gilliam as a director, his relationships with the creative talents and budget controllers, and his trials and triumphs through audience tests and snafus were well-documented. Wonderful stuff.

Summary: One of the best Sci-Fi thrillers,Excellent use of DVD format
Review: While much has already been said about the actual movie, which is excellent, the DVD version adds a lot to overrall 12 Monkeys experience. This is one of the best DVD set ups I have seen, with an 80+ minute behind the scenes/making of 12 Monkeys feature. Hopefully other studios will take notes from this DVD and produce most new DVDs in the same manner. I liked the fact that this DVD does NOT default to the Title Menu and in fact goes straight to the main feature defaulting to Dolby Digital English (AC-3) and Letterbox (Widescreen) format, as I think these are by far the most common preferences. Of course you can still change the Audio and Video formats if you choose.

Summary: sci-fi fans respond code-3
Review: I am very surprised that this film was not better received in the theatres. Based on the French short film "Le Jette" which is told only in still photos and voice-over narration, 12 Monkees is an excellently made movie. Bruce Willis is a lab rat who is sent back to Earth before a deadly virus polluted its atmosphere and forced those survivng human beings to live beneath the planets surface. The story is very unique and complex. Moreover, the story is captiviating and you will find yourself applauding at the end credits. A definite collectors item for sci-fi genre fans. The film is well written, with excellent acting by Willis and Brad Pitt. Terry Gilliam's best work since Brazil. A must see!!!

Summary: A work of art!
Review: I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it. Each successive watching, due to the complexity of many of the scenes, left me with a deeper understanding of the story. And now, as I embark upon a 50th viewing, I think of it more as an artistic feat than anything else. END

Summary: Complex, but great, plot
Review: If you're a Bruce Willes fan, than don't expect the 'usual' Bruce in this movie! He plays a 'different' role in a 'different' movie. The first 30-60 minutes of 12 Monkeys may be a bit confusing, but it makes the plot enjoyable complex after you've seen the ending of the movie. If you like some sci-fi and a good plot to think about afterwards: This is it!! The documentary 'The Making of 12 Monkeys' on the same disc is worth to see, it makes you understand the plot of 12 Monekys even better. END

Summary: Gilliam is the best
Review: 12 Monkeys proves once again that Gilliam can direct other people's material. This transfer is very good, and there is a running commentary track by Gilliam throughout the film in addition to the regular film soundtrack. There is also a "making of" film that will amaze even the most die-hard (ahem) Gilliam fan. 12 Monkeys proves Gilliam can direct, Willis can act, and insurance salespeople have more fun. (Dual-layer disc - no flipping required.) END

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Such a wonderful movie. This is the true definition of insanity, and we owe it all to Terry Gilliam (the director).

This great sci-fi, based upon a French short film by the name "La Jetee" is one of the best of it's genre. With solid performances by Bruce Willis as James Cole, Academy Award Nominated Brad Pitt as the demented Jeffrey Goines, and Madeleine Stowe as Willis's psychiatrist and new found love.

This movie is a must see for all who want to be stunned visually, as well as mentally.

P.S. - If you're going to purchase this movie, be sure to buy the widescreen format. You won't regret it. END

Summary: Awesome - Really makes you think
Review: 12 Monkeys is about a convict from the future. Earth's air is infected with a deadly virus that has wiped out something like 99% of the population. Those who are alive live underground. The convicts "volunteer" to help the scientists collect data on the surface with special suits on. Some of them even have to travel back through time to collect information. This convict, played by Bruce Willis, is the star of this story. He is supposed to get sent back to the year that the virus is released, but he is accidentally sent back five years before the virus is supposed to be sent. Everyone thinks he is a raving lunatic including a very pretty psychologist (Madeline Stowe, who does a fabulous American accent). There, he meets fellow nutcase Jeffery Goines (I hope that's spelled right) who really is crazy! Anyway, he travels through time, and gradually, the story unfolds. A sad romance also grows between him and the psychologist. There are many unanswered questions. You may find the answers to them if you watch it more than once, though, and pay very close attention. This sounds very confusing, and it is. But it is ever so cool.

Summary: Captain Brad Sparrow
Review: Well, this is one of those movies that keeps you hoping, keeps you wrapped up in its potential only to be let down at the very end with an unsatisfying and disheartening ending. It was good, interestingly edited, decent acting, and kept you guessing- at least between 2 or 3 possibilities. Brad Pitt turns in a surprisingly good performance... makes me wonder if Johnny Depp watched this before that gem Pirates of Caribbean...
All in all, an interesting watch, and a decent flick.
