Summary: Watch it with friends and its great!!
Review: Some movies are best watched alone. Some it doesn't matter. This is one you should watch with good friends who like to hoot and giggle and who don't mind it if you have frequent breaks for comments. Its 1950's serials with great color. And surprizingly, the characters do have some shadings.

Summary: Much better than the 1979--1980 cartoon
Review: Much better than the 1979--1980 NBC cartoon. Not that I have anything against it. I don't. Flash Gordon's an update of the 1930s serials which were on PBS in the 1970s and the Sci-Fi Channel when it first went on the air seven years ago. In this 1980 version, Flash Gordon, far from being the spoiled rich son of a prominent astronomer, is a quarterback for the New York Jets. When Emperor Ming the Merciless of Mongo begins his invasion of Earth, Flash, who's shanghaied by Dr. Hans Zarkov, a renegade former NASA scientist, his girlfriend, and object of Ming's lust, Dale Arden, and Zarkov himself, go to Mongo. (Add the letters l-i-a, and you have Mongolia. Ming himself is named for a Chinese dynasty which was in power in the 1600s). Ming's willful daughter, Aura, (makes you wonder if she'd been a hippie in the 1960s with a name like that. Doesn't it?) lusts after both Flash and the rightful heir to Mongo's throne, Prince Barrin of Arboria. Since every faction on Mongo hates each other, much like the Middle East and the Balkans, it's hard to convince the Arborians, Hawkmen, and Lionmen, the major races on Mongo, to unite and defeat Ming, but with the help of Princes Barrin and Thun, and King Vultan, Flash is able to free Mongo from Ming's tyranny. Rent this movie.

Summary: Cheesy, but 80's classic...
Review: I'm stretching it by giving it 3 stars :)... I think I was seven when I saw it, and I probably shocked my little mind from the violence, occasional gore, and sexual scenes and ideas presented in this movie, but I must say, it's very nostalgic. Sexy females, strange costumes and equipment, interesting races, and occasionally good acting... haha! All I can say right now is, where is PART TWO??!! They should seriously consider making it with better acting, of course greater special effects with the technology now, and a good story...

Summary: What a fun ride, Flash Gordon, chessy, you bet, but the best
Review: Everyone needs a campy, cult classic to look up too, and this is the one from the 80's. I am 51 years old and I will never get tired of watching Flash and listening to Queen. Flash and Queen rule!

Summary: Outrageous!
Review: Call this movie low budget, cheesy, bad acted, childish, anything you want! It simply has a magic that wont let go of me.The soundtrack is expectacular showing off the greatest creative work of QUEEN. This is my most prised DVD of all. Long live Flash!

Summary: Camping it up in space!
Review: Silly, imaginative, original, over the top and utterly late '70s/ early '80s camp - with a Queen soundtrack - how ironic! This movie is a wonderful ascape! It is wonderfully nostalgic for those who grw up in the '70s and '80s! Let's not also forget that it's a pretty well made film with very good FX - a must for any true sci-fi fan!

Summary: This would be a blockbuster if it was made today...
Review: Okay, there is the cheese factor, but all in all,the special effects and costumes were magnificent in a tacky, mid budget way.Good guy,bad guy,the girl...Intergalactic drama for your mama.Shows how we all should unite!Queen is a plus(gotta love the wedding theme)! While there was never a sequel,it just goes to show you,ya' never know whats out there. It is a pretty far out there flick.Sneek a peek at a future James Bond and let your imagination take control.Long live FLASH!

Summary: Yeah it's cheesy but in a cool way
Review: I rememebr being nine years old and going to see Flash in the theatre. It was the first movie of that type that I had ever seen! I'm still watching it and enjoying it nearly 20 years later! Its full of what always made old comic strip super heroes fun. Lots of bright colors, exotic sets, dashing heroes and beautiful heroines.Alot of todays entertainment in that genre is way more violent, less innocent and fun. I will always love watching Flash, cheesy as it is, even when I have kids and they say to me " god dad how can you watch this??" and I can look at them and smile, and think "why when I was your age they made GOOD movies about super heroes and adventurers not like whats out now......." And oh yeah the Queen soundtrack is very cool.

Summary: Unfortunately tacky, degrading tribute to a space hero
Review: Generation X keeps forgetting that Flash Gordon was once the king of Sci-Fi, having bumped Buck Rogers out of that title. It's serials used to have only the highest production values at a time when landing on the moon was, indeed, wishful thinking.

Unfortunately, this is all that's left of the Flash Gordon legacy - A tacky, campy film that, barring some unforeseen miracle, nails the coffin shut on a franchise that may forever be known as the story that George Lucas might have revived in 1977 if he had been given the rights.

Can it be viewed as goofy fun? Sure, it can. But viewed in the context of what it once was, one can not help but shudder and think of how a great sci-fi franchise has fallen into such disarray. Who knows...maybe it'll be revived, but, then again, probably not. Oh well.

Summary: I owe everything to Flash.
Review: Really, I do
