Summary: Good Animation, good story, bad sub
Review: Let me start off by saying that this is NOT subtitled, it's "dub-titled". This means that they wrote sub-titles for the English dub, not the Japanese language. So what you get is lines that appear early (and really aren't properly translated... ask anyone who knows what 'kso' means in Japanese...), or they appear late, or, annoyingly enough, they pop up for no reason at all, which tells me that for some reason the English director decided to add lines. In my opinion this makes for a very confusing and annoying viewing.

The story is decent, with the main character being a candidate to pilot a "goddess". Goddesses are giant robots that only certain people can fly, only certain people can repair, and they fight off an enemy called Victims. It just so happens that the main character accidently begins pilotting one of the godesses before his training has even begun, which causes all kinds of problems for the current pilot.

The animation is pretty high quality. I'm not a huge fan of CG and "cell" animation mixing together (usually because it's REALLY obvious). Well, it's just as obvious in this, except that they try to texture and shade the 3D images using normal cartoon colors and shades. It works really well, but they still stand out.

If you can get over the dub-titling (if you only watch English tracks, you should be OK), this is a good title to own.

Summary: A great anime
Review: Let's see where do you start to explain how totally cool this show is. It does seem to have a gundam look to it but it has its own storyline and everything.

Basically it about a five 15 year old boys who are in training to save humanity. They have to save everybody from these monsters called victims.

The main character is a guy named Zero who was basically destined to be the commander of a godess or ingred. I havn't watched the dvd but I watched the one on adult swim and that one is a top notch anime cartoon. So i would reccomend that you buy it.

Summary: A Great Series and an Intriguing story
Review: Now I haven't seen the whole series (because it is not fully released in the US yet), Candidate for Goddess (also known as Piolit Candidate) is a great series. It is of a SiFi Drama about the human race trying to stay alive in mysterious attacks from "Victim" (notice the name, which most likely has hidden meaning). In this battle humans use robots controlled buy humans with EX power (actually it's more like an evolved form of human, which basically is a person with a self inhancing ability). The main characters face internal struggles while trying to become piolits of Robots to save their colony. The robots themselves are also mysterious, especially the Goddesses. It seems to hint of the fact that they may not have been man made.

Altogether it is a great series and I recomend it to anyone, however the 2nd eppisode in this volume contains a good amout of nudity that was edited out of Cartoon Network's version. However it is not graphic (so it isn't Hentai) also on the Cartoon Network version the cigarette has been changed to a tooth pick. (I thought this was important to mention to parents)

I am what one would call a hard core anime fan, but unlike others I do not see the extremely exaggerated "borrowed ideas" of what others see to be true. The only similarities between anouther series and this is slkightly with the way the robots are piolited and the way they are piolited in Neon Genesis: Evangelion (another series in which I highly recoment for adults to watch, very enlightening series). The main differece though is that in an eva you sit down and in a Goddess you float. However, I assume some people consider it borrowed because they both have the piolots link up directly with the mind to their crafts. I don't believe it resembles gundam at all (which is a war series), if the reason it is believed it is similar because of the colonies then it is incedibly mistaken because many space series in all over the world have people live on space colonies and ships. This makes it laughable to think it was started by Gundam Wing (which is a good series also), a series which basically is the original gundam series in 79 conbined with other gundam series (hince the catagory it's under: Alternate Universe Gundam Series) remixed with a cupple of original ideas and a more political view on things.

The animation style is mixed 2D and 3D (similar to the way Blue Submarine No 6 is (a miniseries that should be perchaced by all anime fans)

The music is very nice with orchestrated music and great vocal music. It really makes the series even more enjoyable.

The English voices are not too bad, they are not of the superior caliber of Cowboy Bebop (which had the best dubbed voices for an anime), but they are not horrible and are still pleasant to hear.

Also, like I said, the story is also excellent, though from what I've heard it is a short series (of the OVA size, which is about 13 eppisodes).

The extras are really great, however it is better on the second dvd where you get to see what it's like to do the dubbing for the show the japanese stle.

The only main problem I see is the translation errors in the english subtitles (though it doesn't hurt the fun in watching subtitled anime) and the fact that there are only three eppisodes per DVD. (which is why it didn't get a perfect)

All in all a very great series that I'd recomend to anyone (over 13)

Summary: For the Love of GOD! Don't Buy This!!!
Review: Ok, we all know that that animation looks good. You can see that from the cover of the box. Theres also the good CG work on the mechs and goddesses. But thats it. The characters are so underdevelped that you have no idea why they act, talk and think the way they do. The main character, zero, (real original name for a hero) gets to an academy for training kids to fight in a battle to save the last planet. Is it just me or is that sooo like Neon Genesis Evangelion? But wait, it doesn't stop there. Zero meets up with one of the head battling mecha's, something called a goddess. And lo and behold it sucks him in and starts to mind meld with him or something. Just like Shinji and his synch ratio. It is one hell of a knockoff. The actors behind the dubbing did a horredious job. The emotion displayed by the characters is so off. One minute there all seriouse, when they shouldn't be, the next, well, they don't really go anywhere. Every now and then one says something funny that would normaly elicite a funny face or a laugh. But nobody reacts the way people would. In short, it lacks, major. If you enjoy a good anime, go watch something else. This one is just not to be owned. Watch it on Adult Swim if your curiouse, but trust me. Youll thank me for not buying it.

Summary: Pilot Candidate
Review: Pilot Candidate is set in a future where humaity is living in space and only one Planet is left. Attacked by enigmatic aliems called Victim. society is protected by 5 enormous Robots called Goddeses or Ingrids. There is one catch only People born with a special blood type and certain age can fly them for a certain period of time. (Fans of Evangelion will notice Blatant Simalarities) Volume One intoduces us to 3 main characters. Zero being the main hero with mysterious power and past. Clay Fortran set in the usual Smart sidekick role and Hiead as the equal mysterious rival. along with the current pilots and their instructor. Zero having the lack of focus and drive\ego the usual hero types have (think Tai from Digimon season 1--They even look alike and may have same english voice) finds himself in many incidents including: 1 displaying the mysterious power 2 seeing his past(he was saved by a goddess) 3 being accepted by a goddess and seeing a mysterious gril while inside) and 4 sets up the rivalry between Hiead and Zero. all in all a good video that will take time to build up as the follow the pattern.

Summary: The second best (DBZ) Anime ever created
Review: Pilot Candidate runs every Saturday night at 12 am, 11 pm central. Pilot Candidate offered me a kind of show like Final Fantasy VIII meets Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star. Pilot Candidate is like the 2nd best Anime to reach Earth. The reason being is for the amazing chareter development and the cool 3D computer simulatoed space and robot sequences. It's easy to understand, and it's worth a 60 somethin cha-chings to get all 3 DVDs that are so far released. Of course you could watch it on Adult Swim every week, but BUY IT ANYWAY! PIlot Candidate is soooooo cooool, see this anime, it's addictive! VERY ADDICTIVE! It's not one of those stupid Animes that are released every few weeks. The dubbing [is bad], but everything else is top-notch........

Summary: :(
Review: Pilot Canidate had the potential to be a great program, instead of just a clone. If there weren't so many "homages" or to at least make it less appearant i would have rated it higher. for those of you who liked pilot canidate, i'd suggest for you to watch neon genesis evangelion, (the series that is stripped most from, excellant excellant series, many other anime programs have drawn from this series as it has revolutionized the mecha genera, unfortuneatly it has cheapened the series in this case) or other series as said like gundam wing (or many of the gundam series for that matter) or serial experiments lain which also played a part in p.c.
it would be unfair for me to criticize the dubbing as i've only seen the adult swim version, but it is amazing how much the voice actors for clay and zero sound like aida and shinji. or the fact they even look like the two of them. (looks to me like the creators of p.c. felt bad aida didn't get to be a piolt, so to compensate they added him in here.) or the scene where the liqued was filling up the capsule came straight from the first episode of evangelion. (funny how zero held his breath too) even zero's name, rei. i know rei is a pretty popular name, but coincidence hard to ignore. I can't stand the cg in p.c., it doesn't blend well. in any case like so many other shows less thought is but in, lower budget, what could have been a great show proves once again that not all clones are as good as ayanami! (hehehe...cough..ne way..)

Summary: Can you say, "money-making budget title"?
Review: Right off the bat, from the characters and story and mecha, you can tell the creators really, really liked Evangelion. Or at least saw that people really liked it. In any case, the series is without a doubt a rip-off of it. But since that's been established, let's put aside that and talk about other aspects... such as the budget. You can definitely tell this was a factor. The animation is horrible, if there is any at all. There's such a ridiculous number of looping animations and still-shots, it insults anime. Wait, you know what... let's throw that out too. Something's gotta be worth it, right? Okay, the sound, the sound is... ugh. Just listen to the lyricless, cliched orchestra playing in the opening theme. It doesn't get much better from there, unfortunately. So, why two stars? The DVD itself isn't bad, and I have to give it something for at least trying to look different. If you've seen Evangelion, you might just want to give this a whirl and see what you think (preferably on Adult Swim), but I personally would never buy this. It's instantly forgettable.

Summary: WE WANT THE REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Some one needs to make a web site that will raise money for this show because it totally rocks. It is a must have animation!!! The only bad thing is taht it isn't finished, but thats i'm typing this. I want someone to make a site that rasies money for this show. I think i can speak for every one when i say we would like to see the rest of the series.

When i first saw this i thought it was the best animation ever i still do.I'm not 18 so i can't make a web site that will raise money for this show. If any of you have seen farscape you will know what I'm talking about.Farscape was taken off the air but since everybody liked it they raised money for ot to be put back on the air. Well this is nearly the same. We just want the animation to be finished.

Now who's with me, who wants to see the rest of this animation? If you do then act now and make a web site to raise money.

Oh and if you don't make the site be sure to stop by one and give a little money to our cause.PLZ I'M BEGGING YOU HELP US!!!!!!
