Summary: A must-have for fans of Pratchett
Review: Extremely faithful adaptation. The animation, while not up to Disney standards, is excellent for a made-for-TV production. The brilliant Jane Horrocks is a standout as the voice of Magrat Garlick.

Summary: A wonderful adaptation of a great book
Review: First off, I should warn you that I am a Pratchett fan. I love the Discworld stories, and am very fond of his witches.

Whenever a beloved book is adapted to a screen, be it large or small, there is the risk of the director or the screenwriter botching the job (_The Postman_ comes to mind). Happily Keven Costner had nothing to do with this production.

The animation is of high quality, the voices were well cast (Christopher Lee does a splendid job as YOU KNOW WHO) and the story kept me and my children (ages 6 and 9) involved and amused.

Sure there are some plot elements that were shortened up, but I guess they didn't want an epic (speaking of Kevin Costner). And why in the name of Nipper did they put 1:48 of vid on 3 tapes? I recommend the DVD version just to save the shelf space!

Overall: A fine entertainment, not just for Pratchett fans.

Summary: Good adaptation, not perfect, but still enjoyable.
Review: Good adaptation of Prachett's novel. It's not 100% on the mark since at least 25% of Pterry's humor is in the footnotes, but still enjoyable. The voice talent was good, although Magrat's gurgle made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Christopher Lee IS Death, someone who I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. (Come to think of it, I'd rather not meet Death anywhere, but that's beside the point.) Well worth the money for the three-tape boxed collection.

Summary: It's Discworld, only not funny
Review: I bought this DVD because I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. This animated series is faithful to the novel in every respect but one: it's not funny. All the clever narration and humourous observations that are present in Pratchett's work are completely absent from this DVD. It's 147 minutes of sheer boredom and disappointment. Please, save your money and don't buy this!

Summary: Pure, perfect Pratchett on video
Review: I first experienced bits of this video at the first Discworld Convention. The opening title sequence floored everyone. The news of who was in the cast got unanimous cheering. I didn't know most of the names, and had to wait a long time to see the finished videos. When I finally did, I understood why everyone was cheering. The voices are perfect. You recognise them immediately, if you've read the book before. (And I still recommend reading the books before watching the video. The books will always be better, no matter how good the video version of any Pratchett book is.)

Anyone who looks at this and thinks, "oh, it's animated; it must be for kids" is wrong. I'm not saying it has Mature Content or anything, but the kids probably won't get all the references. Then again, I think very few adults will get *all* of them.

If you like Pratchett's books, this video will not disappoint you. If you've never read them, this video could hook you. Now all we need is the video for _Soul Music_ over here. I've been forced to survive on the soundtrack and the script for years now! So buy this video and encourage them to release the others for us!

Summary: Wyrd Review
Review: I found Wyrd Sisters to be an excellent amimation video. With a artistic style quite simmular to "The Hobbit",great dialog, and extra's it is well worth buying. The only bad points are the editing of different episodes, some times the jump from one to the other is too abrubt.

Summary: Hamlet's Device, Macbeth's Tale, Pratchett's Wit
Review: I got this DVD because, like many, I'm a Terry Pratchett junky. At first glance I had some problems mostly do to the very made-for-tv animation and more important, many of my ideas of what the characters were like was just as idiosyncratic and those of everyone else. I stuck with it, and in short order discovered I liked this series very much - in an endearing sort of way.

Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat are nearly perfect. Especially the latter two, Nanny Ogg displaying her usual 'loosidity' and Magrat as the permanently flower-child witch. Having been roped into responsibility of the murdered king's infant son, the maneuvers, manipulations, and frontal attacks of three ladies who obey the rules only when it is convenient can't help by claim the loyalty of those of use who also believe in doing the right thing even when we have to do the wrong thing in order to accomplish it. A surprising amount of Pratchett's tongue-in-cheek sarcasm makes it through the transition from book to tube as well.

The usurpers to the Lancre throne are the enemy. Not satisfied with the country they proceed to cut down all the trees, burn the houses of non-taxpayers, and drive the witches from the kingdom. When all of this lands in the witches' laps along with the child and the ghost of its father. They pack young Tom-John off with a band of wandering players and are finally driven by a kidnapped cat to make a direct confrontation, which culminates in a war of headology and a final confrontation of Macbethian proportions. And, in the background, a fool makes a man of himself over Margrat.

I found DEATH was the least convincing character. He had all the lines right, but I had expected something more sepulchral - especially from Christopher Lee. After all, if someone goes about speaking in capital letters all the time one expects drum rolls or killer shark themes to play when you actually hear him. Well, he was OK, but not DEATH as I would live him.

Poor animation and an insufficiently dead DEATH aside, all this really is good fun. The DVD does demonstrate that Pratchett's appeal is much wider than I would have previously guessed. I may even start giving copies of the book away as Christmas presents.

Summary: Great Movie with just the littlest problem
Review: I have grown to love all of Terry Pratchetts pieces. It is something you have to have a tatse for, the voices were really good. The animation isn't the best but as long as the story is told by Mr. Pratchett it won't matter much, the ending did somewhat come as a surprise to me, but I really should've expected it to come from him. I currently own all the Discworld book and the two video games that were released for the playstation.

Although this is made for all ages, if the kids will not watch 2.5 hours straight I see no reason why they would have to. The DVD has chapter selection and VHS comes on 3 tapes, watch part of it then come back later.

The only problem I have experienced with having the DVD version is a small animation glitch where the witches go to the rescue. At the castle door one of the witches tries to sell appples and the animation sticks for a sec, but other then that I love the movie.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I have seen many books that were turned into movies and shows, both live action and animated. 90% of the time it is a complete let down. So I was highly skeptical of Wyrd Sisters. I am a devoted fan of the Discworld series and despite living in the United States I have been able to obtain just about everything printed about the Discworld. I got this video and expected the usual terrible adaptation where the animation is cheap and all wrong for what I pictured and the story is changed horribly because the movie producers think we are so stupid we will only get a joke or a plot line if its yelled in our faces.

But I was delighted with these videos. They are probably the best adaptation of a novel I have ever seen. The movie was well animated, I think, probably because it was not made in the USA! But animation aside, the story itself was a brilliant adaptation of the book, and a lot the humor is very subtle and you can miss it if you aren't careful. And I loved the British accents, because I tend to not think of the books that way when I am reading them. This video had me laughing so hard at points my stomach hurt, and I will be watching again and again to catch what I missed from laughing, if I can contain myself that is.

So in summary all I can say is get it if you like the Discworld novels, get this video because you won't be disappointed!

Summary: I love Discworld... NOW IT'S ALIVE!
Review: I just Love Discworld! And this movie rocks! Funny, original, good music. Magrat's not all that pretty, though. Sure, theanimation's a little campy, but the story's GREAT! YOU AND YOUR FAMILYWILL LOVE THIS!

I'm STILL trying to get "From TheDiscworld" Soundtrack...
