Summary: The best computer animation I have seen.
Review: First, I'll explain what four stars means. This isn't Sanjuro or Seven Samurai or The Searchers or Seven Days in May or The Maltese Falcon or The Bad Sleep Well. This CGI animation is very good, though -- good like The Matrix, The Fifth Element, or Blade Runner. It is the first five episodes of a forty episode series that can be seen on morning animation TV slots on Sci-fi channel and the like. Where Heinlein's book was the worst kind of didactic, pseudo-conservative drivel with three action scenes thrown in, where the movie was an attempt to stretch these three scenes into a story, Roughnecks is a sequence of real stories with well-developed characters and no drivel. When I was travelling for Sun Micro, I caught my first view of Roughnecks due to being up early one morning with jet lag. It was the episode that follows these five, on the ocean world Hydora. I thought I had stumbled onto some kind of scifi movie. Then when I saw closeups of the characters I realized it was computer animation. But the animation was so good that except for those closeups, it came across as real. There are sequences in these five episodes that you won't believe are animated -- and the CGI guys were just warming up. You should buy this tape to savour the experience better than you can by getting up at 0630 and watching a TV with mono sound. The music, which is probably composed on something like Acid 2.0, is wonderful and comes through clear on the tape. But you should still get up early and watch the other 35 episodes. The actors that do the voices, the writers that write the scripts, the directors and the producers have a lot to be proud of. The stories treat of honor, self-sacrifice, redemption, loyalty, hope and a lot of other strong truths that you can't find on many movies or any TV shows. There are eight or ten episodes that never lose their emotional impact; the episode in San Francisco Bay in the final sequence is the climax this drama deserves. I cry every time. I strongly recommend that you both buy this tape and that you tape the rest of the series on your own.

Summary: Good TV show and movie
Review: I'm surprised that this show had such a loyal following, it deserves it. I used to watch this show on the Sci-Fi cable channel and I got hooked. Although the CGI are'nt "state of the art", Roughnecks was extremely entertaining. I just wish that the whole series was released on DVD, I'd buy them all.

Summary: Give me more!!!
Review: I'm an old Heinlein fan who's read all of his published work at least once, but unlike many other hardcore fans, I wasn't totally disappointed with the movie. This animated series just rocks in it's own right!! I like the choice of hold over elements from the film, but love the adjustments the development team made. The score is top notch, and the action and storyline move at a great pace. My son is at an age where he's fallen in love with watching movies and this one became an instant favorite. I'd never let him watch the Starship Troopers movie because of the gore, but they keep the gore level down and the heros always survive. I hope the powers that control this series see this bevy o' great reviews and get more episodes made. Just direct market them through Amazon. You make 'em, we'll buy 'em! In the meantime, this is a worthy pick-up.

Review: Finally the best show on TV available on DVD. Now, all we need is the rest of the campaigns.

Summary: Starting off the series
Review: This little Gem from Foundation was something that I had been eagerly awaiting since I saw the first episode almost a year and a half ago.

It's far better to be able to watch the episodes in order that they were meant to be seen, without the hassles of commericals, or worrying that the VCR wasn't set up properly if you couldn't be around to watch it.

Yes, Admittedly the animation was a little jerky to start, but as the series progressed it smoothed out and became quite good.

Storywise, it was just a start. Your standard miliatry campaign set in a hostile environment. It was more, in my opinion, character introduction and development than anything else.

The series had GREAT potential, it's just such a shame that it didn't generate enough revenue for the parent company to bother with a second season.

I hope that they continue to release the episodes on DVD as they did with the first campaign.

Summary: A CG Sci-Fi Adventure
Review: When intel discovers an infestation of bugs on Pluto troops are dispatched to terminate the alien threat. The Roughnecks go behind enemy lines to attempt to retrieve a plasma bug for research. But after underestimating the bugs the troopers are vastly outnumbered and what was thought to be an infestation turned out to be an invasion.

The animation in this movie is just plain amazing especially the starships and the characters facial expressions. Also the music rocks. All of the characters are unique and interesting. I am sorry to say that I missed the series on television and can only hope they release all the episodes on DVD. The only downside is the dvd options. It only offers a photo gallery and trailers to other movies.

Summary: You almost forget it's animation... almost.
Review: First, this is really close to the book, and you can find the satyrical humor that was in the motion picture. Scenarii are okay, but to tell the truth, it's nothing unseen or unread before, but anyway it works for me. No, actually the only real flaw to this feature is the caracters animation in itself : lips are not in sync with sentences, their way of walking doesn't look right, and you often see the same sequences used at different moments (you, know like in Airwolf when the bad guy's chopper finally explodes)... Nonetheless after a few minutes, I didn't mind anymore. Good action packed feature, but you could definitely find better character animation. 4/5

Summary: Great cartoon, true to the Starship Troopers Book
Review: This is an excellent adaption to the classic Heinlen novel Starship Troopers, A story that deals more with life in the future rather than a overly glorified battle with man-eating space bugs. Heinlen's future where the Military is the haven of the high-tech hero, and a single soldier is worth a hundred men. Scenes from this cartoon are more in line to the original story, From multi-million dollar battle suits, heavily trained soldiers, to even include dropping the MI from orbit to invade a hostile world. If you've read and loved the novel, you'll love this CGI cartoon.
