Summary: Gojira's "Seoul" Brother (sorry, bad pun)
Review: A scientist and a young chicky get married and immediately are harassed by her young VERY obnoxious brother. No honeymoon though for the groom -- a LARGE,angry, lizard (man in a rubber suit)has emerged from ocean depths. Yongary destroys a bunch of cheap Korean doll houses and desimates the Korean oil refineries (fun), using the blow-torch in his mouth -- check closely and you can see the pipe the SFX (Ha ha ha ha!)team used. We find out that he was only causing this ruckus because he was low on fuel. That pretty much covers most of the movie, other than a scene where he starts to , I guess, dance (?) a jig -- chessy fun but a good rainy day C- grade flick. One HUGE drawback -- very grainy DVD transfer.

Summary: One of the worst
Review: The Korean attempt to create their version of the "guy in a rubber suit" genre of monster movies is probably the worst of it's kind.

The monster moves as if there's a narcoleptic actor inside it. It's probably three levels below the weekly Ultraman shows that was available in Japan during the same time period.

On top of that, there's an ugly and dislikable kid (much like the "Kenny" of the Gamera movies of the same time period) which pretty much makes it unbearable to anyone over the age of 8.

This movie should have killed the Korean monster movie industry (and almost did). The newer version of the 90's is a much better bet, but not by much.

Summary: Forget this DVD, get the Orion VHS!
Review: There really isn't much to say about the film. If you don't know it already and like it you probably won't buy it anyway, because it's just an obscure Korean monster flick. But if you want it, here's my advice: Try to get one of the old Orion tapes and just forget about this DVD. Though my DVD-player says it's encoded at sufficently high bit rates, the image sometimes looks as blocky and noisy as a VCD. I thought I could upgrade from VHS to DVD, but surely not with Alpha's horrible release.

Summary: Beware Godzi.. I Mean Gam... Um, Yongary!
Review: This korean Godzilla / Gamera clone has it's moments. Awakened by nuclear tests, Yongary tunnels along like a moving earthquake, heading straight for Korea! Of course, once he emerges, it's obvious that we've got another full grown adult in a rubber lizard-suit on our hands. Yongary is a bit different in that he breathes fire from his mouth AND shoots a laserbeam from the horn on his snout. There's the usual mass property damage and useless military response before the eggheads come up with something to slay the big lug. Yongary isn't altogether terrible. My 8yo loved every second. Kids'll go bananas for it...

Summary: A Rare Monster Film
Review: This old Yongary film has never had a DVD release in the U.S.A
Finally, here it is!

A nuclear test in China releases a giant dinosaur from hibernation. The monster rampages through Korea, ready to stomp and destroy! Made when Godzilla reached the height of his popularity, Yongary, Monster from the Deep was a blatant attempt to capitalize on the sucess of that most popular of movie dinosaurs. This movie is quite similar to Giant Monster Gamera, made at about the same time. It was dubbed and released in the US, much to the delight of b-movie fans!
