Summary: Sam Raimi is a genius Director.
Review: With Darkman, Sam Raimi is able to blend comic book, mystery, science fiction, and drama into a fairly good entertaining film of a scientist (Liam Neeson) who seeks revenge on the thugs who destroyed his life. In doing this, the scientist almost becomes a monster himself, but his soul is saved by the love of a good woman (Frances McDormand). Helped along with a thrilling musical score by Danny Elfman, Darkman should entertain those who enjoy a thrilling movie. It's also great to know that both Sam Raimi and Danny Elfman are reteaming to make a live action movie on Spider-Man, to be released in 2002.

Summary: "So that's it, you want me to wear a funny hat?"
Review: Ahh Darkman, Peyton, Liam, you don't have to wear a funny hat we just want you to be you.

I first saw this movie when I was 8 along with other Raimi films. Liam Neeson is great in this film, too bad he lowered his standards and was in a Star Wars films, ick..but this is some great work by him as he does play all the emotions and shows rage very well, especially in the infamous pink stuffed animal scene at the fair...oh the horror.

Interesting to note on MI 2, the film utilizes the classic Darkman original of the finger chopping with the cigar cutter as done by Durant in this film, Rip-off Mr. Woo...shame on you..boo hoo.

I never seen the sequels to this movie, but plan to someday, been saying that since they first came out though.

Bottom line..buy it..rent it...see it..it's Raimi and that's always worth something isn't..especially since there is a fair amount of gore and burnt flesh, yum.

Review: I walked out of the theatre after about a half hour of this violent mess. I literally could not stomach such grossness. The reviews led me to believe this would be good, so I went to see it in the theatre -- it was nothing like they described.

I could not stomach it, and as I wrote, I walked out of the theatre after about thirty minutes.

Summary: A very special movie
Review: Sam Raimi doesn't ever seem like it's hard for him to make movies this good, probably because he has natural talent to make his movies funny, fun and full of excitement. Close viewers and movie buffs will fully realize the larger-than-life style all of the characters in this movie have. Actors like Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand put alot of power into this flick, and Raimi puts so much over-the-top style into it, it's not just a Batman spin-off, it's able to hold it's own as a great superhero movie.
Extra nodds to Raimi and Neeson, who really are apart of what made Darkman a spectacle of cinematic viewing. P.S. Also look out for Bruce Campbell at the climax.

Summary: Nice superhero movie
Review: I give Darkman four stars as a superhero popcorn action movie, in the vein of the Tim Burton's Batman. It holds your attention long enough to finish it, with Liam Neeson giving a great performance of a man being driven insane.

While the fast pace of the movie allows Sam Raimi to really cut loose on the style and flair, I, strangely, feel that it could have benefitted from a slower pace. It's an adreneline-crammed movie, but I might have enjoyed a deeper look into Peyton Westlake's angst and rage, rather than him just killing a bunch of goons as therapy.

Sam Raimi set out to make his comic book movie (I guess he didn't see Spiderman in his future), and that's what he did. No deeper, and, not counting Raimi's style, just a little less entertaining than 1989's Batman.

Summary: Excellent Low Budget Action
Review: Let me just say that DARKMAN is a B film. It does not attempt to be an A-list film. At the time, it had B-list actors, writers, and a director. However, it is a terrific jumping off point for all the cast and crews careeers.

DARKMAN is a very intriguing story about a scientist whose life is ruined after his girlfriend's work accidentally gets him in trouble. The beginning plot is set up very well, yet it seems to deteriorate as the movie progresses. The script and story are good, however the movie sometimes seems to repeat itself, even though it is sometimes brilliant to see it unfolding in a couple of clever twists.

Saw Raimi has always been a very enigmatic director. His shots are complex and intense, as seen in the EVIL DEAD series. He uses them to his advantage in DARKMAN. Every camera angle works well and everything cohedes perfectly. Sam Raimi shows his growth from the EVIL DEAD films, and it is incredibly apparent in this movie.

The acting by the main actors is top notch. Liam Neeson shows why he is now a big actor. He gives depth, humor, and drama all at once. Frances McDormand has always been good and it is a treat to see her in ths movie. She gives the exact amount of compassion that is needed in such a high octane thriller as this. The supporting cast of the two main bad guys is very good as well. Larry Drake is menacing in his role, as it the actor that I cannot remember in the "big boss" roll. He is slick and charming and oozes carisma all over the screen. The minor actors, however, have a couple of flaws, but they are easily overlooked when surrounded by the performances of the main actors.

The pacing of hte film is incredible. The movie rarely slows down and is full of great special effects. Even though a bit of the early blue screen work is quite apparent, it does not detract from the look of the film. It's still exciting action that is thrown in front of you, and that is exactly why it works.

DARKMAN is a very entertaining action thriller with great direction and performances. It has a very smart revenge storyline and such brilliant pacing that the movies hour and forty-five minute running time flies by. This movie should not be overlooked, as it is a terrific jumping place for the careers of many important actors and filmmakers. I cannot recommend this movie any more than I have.

Summary: Comic Book style film
Review: Darkman has been one of my favourites for a while. The movie may be comical at some times but also kind of believable in a weïrd way. Sam Raimi's best art work with good camera angles and a very wonderfully composed score by Danny Elfman. Liam Neeson plays Payton Westlake a scientist on the verge of discovering a breakthrough in the world of skin synthetics. But when a group of thugs destroy his life to steal a document, everything is gone. Brutally scared from burns that would be uncontrollable pain, and altered by a experimental treatment, he begins to assume identities and to revenge Peytons death. Darkman is rated R for Adult Content, Violence, and some language. Personally I would give this movie a PG-13 rating due to its comic bookesque feel, it isn't extremely believable, and the language is mild, with no sexual content or nudity.

Review: Darkman is one of the best Dark comicbook adaptations ever done. Sam Raimi directing Liam Neeson and a excellent cast in what I call a movie that i never tire of seeing( and i've seen it at least 40 to 50 times!!! 10 when it was in a regular theatre!!!!!!!) Good transfer to DVD. I would've given it five stars if it would've had DTS or Dolby 5.1 and more extras!! Hope Universal does a 10th Anniversary ED. in 2005! If you love Action in the Batman or comic book Genre this is it!!!!

Summary: An Early Childhood Classic
Review: If your wondering what the title of my review means, it's because "Darkman" was a favorite movie of mine growing up. I think I was three or four years old when I saw it over and over again. Pretty young, huh? Anyway, "Darkman" is a twisted story of revenge and is entertaining thrill-ride from start to finish.

Director Sam Raimi, future commander of the "Spider-Man" blockbuster, shows us his talents by writing the screenplay of a dark tale that goes like this: an attorney named Julie (Frances McDormand) stumbles upon cover-up real estate dealings, then hoodlums brutally attack her scientist beau, Peyton Westlake(Liam Neeson) and leave him for dead. But Peyton miraculously lives, and is taken as a John Doe at a hospital. The obscure patient is yielded to breakthough, but extreme therapy which insenates his nerves to feelings and enhances his strength and emotions. Then Peyton unexpectedly awakens and escapes the hospital. He builds a dilapidated lab in an abandoned industrial plant. His terribly burned skin from the lab accident prompts him to develop synthetic skin in order to impersonate the thugs who horribly disfigured him. His revenge gives him a sign of life when he visits his love, Julie, who thought he died.

I thought it was an intriging plot, and the cinematography and fantastic score by Danny Elfman are highlights. I also loved the character Peyton, aka Darkman. He's a haunted soul and the ultimate anti-hero who can't view himself in the world because of his horribly scared skin. There's also great directing by Raimi, who balances suspense, action and moments of humor.

I'll always cherish "Darkman" because I never get sick of it. It will always be one of my favorite movies because it was a bear in memory from my childhood.

Summary: It's a comic, folks
Review: Although most of the reviews here are certainly positive, in the interest of objectivity I sometimes spend more time looking at the unfavorable ones. In the case of this particular film, the negative comments are rather silly. For what Sam Raimi obviously aspired to do here, this movie is close to perfect. It's a walking, talking comic book. Implausible situations, cartoonish characters -- well, that's the whole point. Trashing the film for these things is like saying, "pornography would be ok, if it didn't get people excited." Raimi delivered exactly the film that he meant to. If the dialogue rang a little bit too true, if Neeson's delivery wasn't quite over-the-top enough on that take...well, crank it up a little bit more. This is hardly my favorite film, it'll probably be a generation until I'm ready to sit through it again -- but there's scarcely a false note.
