Review: I agree with most of the reviews here... it is better than Subzero but not as good as Phantasm - which is by far the best movie. The story was lacklustre and the mystery not all that mysterious. Admittedly my expectations were high. After all, the original animated series was superb and Phantasm was excellent. So it is understandable that I was hoping that this film would be great.... but it falls short. Overall the film is fun and of an acceptable standard. If you have never seen one of these animated films I would suggest Mask of the Phantasm be your first choice... and it seems that most agree with me.

Summary: A different Bruce Wayne, same Batman
Review: I agree with most of the reviews showed up here. However, it would be good to let u know that this movie - Mistery of the Batwoman- is full with extras, including the awesome short "CHASE ME", which features Catwoman in her latest animated style featured on The New Aventures of Batman TV series. Bruce Tim is not the producer on this movie ( he had produce so far Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond and Justice League Animated Tv series)so you can expect a different quality and action on this movie. That doesnt means we have a mediocre or bad movie. What we can notice is that they show a different face on Bruce Wayne. A Bruce Wayne you all gotta see. Batman keeps being Batman. We have Tim Drake as Robin, who was barely showed in action. Barbara Gordon alias Batgirl appears also, but only for letting fans know that she STILL exists (current Justice League fans are always wondering where in the world is she and Robin!)The movie shows a deep secret on Batwoman's identity. We all got confused about her alter ego and everytime u seem to know who she is you realized you got it "wrong". Excellent animation quality, awesome sound and fun extras. Dont rent this movie, buy it!

Summary: A VERY GOOD INSTALLMENT!
Review: I almost didn't buy this DVD because of all the whining I was reading about storyline, animation, etc. The WB Batman animated series appears to be a victim of the incredibly high standards it set in the early 1990's as the best super hero animated series of all-time. Now, anything that doesn't rise to the perfection of those first few seasons gets a bad rap.

The story was excellent as usual. The writing was fantastic. There were several scenes including a beat up body guard who very discreetly declined a second confrontation with the Dark Knight, that was absolutely hilarious. The uncredited use of Halle Berry's image definitely added to the glamour and mystique of the beautiful stable of animated Batman females. The choice of villains could have been better however. The animated Penguin never did measure up to the other animated Batman villains. (Burgess Meredith, where art thou?) And who really cares about Ruppert Thorne other than he's actually Dean Wormer in mob pin-stripes? But I guess you can't bring back the Joker EVERY TIME (or can you?).

Overall a great installment and must-see for anyone who loved the original series. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Summary: Another great Batman cartoon
Review: I am a huge Batman fan, and this was my first exposure to the animated gotham universe. Being somewhat of a Batman purist, I was expecting a cutesy kid's feature, heavy on cheesy action and light on plot or acting. Instead, I was won over by a good storyline, terrific voice acting, and superb art throughout. The characters feel engaging, and while this feature is suitable for kids, it also has enough of an "edge" that adults can enjoy it as well. Highly recommended (better than almost all of the Batman feature films)!

Summary: Good, it could have been better
Review: I enjoyed the overall concept of the movie. However, I would have enjoyed seeing a little bit more background on the three seperate women. I know that they briefly explained each of the women's motivations for helping to create the Batwoman identity. Further, I also thought that if the movie had been longer the story could have been more developed and to have more depth, especially the developing love affair between Bruce Wayne and Kathy DuKane. And, of course, I thought it was clever that each of the three had something special to contribute. One brought the money, one bought the technology and the third was the backbone who introduced the other two and formed the alliance. I thought it was a pity that their secret identities were discovered at the end.

Summary: Great Animation Great Batman story
Review: I purchased it for my birthday recently and couldn't have been a better animated Batman movie.
Is very well written and acted. Never has a dull moment. Is it very well balanced between plot and action sequences. If it wasn't animated I'd say I was looking a t a great Batman live film. Should this movie had been made live even for the WB network it would have been a success, the story is that good.

The only disappointment is perhaps the design of the Batwoman's costume, resembles too much the Terry McGuiness' Batman Beyond costume. They should have looked up the original Batwoman from the 1940s and 50s Batman comics instead, and update that design.

If you're a fan of the BATMAN ANIMATED SERIES is worth your every dollar and keeping it in your collection.

Summary: Not as good as Batman, Mask of the Phantasm
Review: I spent 23 dollars on this one. The dvd extras were ok. Try to rent it if you can, but don't buy it. I don't think it's worth buying.

Story and animation quality pales in comparison to Batman, Mask of the Phantasm.

Dvd case cover is made of cheap 40% cheap plastic and 60% cardboard. That kind of upset me. They could have gone to 100% plastic, and made a more durable dvd case. Disappointing.

Producers tried to make this one polictically correct. Kind of awkward attempt, but it's a good progress.

Batman's actions and abilities here are a bit more realistic compared to Batman, Mask of the Phantasm. In Batman, Mask of the Phatasm, I'm still not sure how Bruce Wayne had time to send his mask and cape tied to wood towards the chopper and jump off at least 5 stories without a gadget, and I'm still not sure how chemicals can allow the villain of that movie to warp around.

Summary: Bruce Wayne is the disguise; Batman is the true identity
Review: I was somewhat disappointed with this interpretation of Batman. The writers apparently forgot (or never knew) that the true persona in the Batman/BruceWayne duality is the Batman, not Bruce Wayne. The playboy/businessman Bruce Wayne is merely a facade that the Batman projects in everyday life. This is major defining aspect of the Batman/Wayne duality. In the movie, the writers got it all wrong.

Summary: Bat-tastic? Well ...
Review: I'm the first to admit to being a long-time fan of this version of Bat-animation. I think the simply drawn lines and dark visuals -- perhaps more than the films -- have best captured the world of the Batman, his colleagues, and his adversaries in ways that ignite the imagination. Certainly, Batman has great potential with continuing in the line of direct-to-DVD (VHS); at present, it's all the Batfans have!

Those facts aside, MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN is a reasonably well-told tale. The animation is average to above-average (there is a marked improvement, in my opinion) in the latter half of the film, almost as if the animators worked hard to improve upon a not-exactly-Award-winning story by providing the viewers with memorable visuals. Also, the vocals of Kevin Conroy always deserve a mention; can anyone voice a better Batman? Additionally, the vocal talents of Kelly Ripa and Kyra Sedgwick slip easily into this dark world, lifting this tale of the mysterious "Batwoman" from what could've been a visual disaster to a brisk-moving adventure.

No. It isn't the best animated Bat-flick out there. But as I'm sure some of you will agree, something is better than nothing when it comes to our beloved Bat.
