Summary: Great, great anime!! Adult audiences will love it!
Review: This is perhaps my all time favorite anime. Lots of action, great characters and very detailed art work. I collect anime cels and I find the line-detail extraordinary. The setting and mood are very close to the manga. It is a must see for those that like action and fighting female leads. Gally (a.k.a Alita) is my favorite anime character. You will not be disappointed in this anime--- guranteed!! I give it the highest rating possible,

Summary: cool movie ,but the books are better
Review: I saw this movie a while ago and recently bought a copy ,only to once again watch it now.Afterward ,I thought to myself,"the books are a whole lot better".Don't get me wrong ,the movie is pretty cool ,but that's about it ,because in the books ,you got to see a whole lot of stories develope one from the other. The movie was just a short sum of some of those stories. It's a well told story(in the movie)but things are kinda slowed down and then rushed near the end, kinda leaving you thinking it would be nice to see a series of this story. The movie does no justice to the books ,but visually ,it was totally cool to see one of my favorite characters in motion.
Over-all ,the story was cool ,but at the same time, a let-down ,just waiting to be told some more instead of ending.

Summary: Great!
Review: This anime tales a deep and emotional storyline. You may not understand the storyline the first time you watch it, but you can just watch it again. Rewatchability in this anime is high. The one drawback is the length it's only an hour long. But it makes up for this with a nice storyline and crisp, clean animation. I recommend "Battle Angel" to any anime fan.

Summary: Fails to live up to its graphic novel roots
Review: Kishuro Yukito's graphic serial "Gunnm" was a bit of a cult sensation amoung older readers in japan, and did gain some loyal readers when it was translated into english comic books as "Battle Angel Alita" (where the main character Gally's was changed to match the title). A sort of epic, twisted play on a coming of age story, Gunnm followed the life (and eventual death) of Gally Ido, a cyborg girl who struggles to come to term with the harsh life of the scrapyard, and who eventually answers the biological beckoning of the warrior's bloodlines she possess's. The original graphic novel was apprx. 7 volumes long, full of social innuendos and alot of admirable poetry references (including Edgar Allen Poe) and possesed an engrossing, almost nostaligic grip on the reader. Hand drawn and written by a single author, it lacked any groundbreaking artwork and was far too detailed to lend itself to easily to a film translation. The film version of "Gunnm", released in english as "Battle Angel" (and keeping Gally's original name over the questionable Alita moniker) is a condesnation of volumes 1 and 2, and does do a fantastic job of bringing to life Kishiro's hellish scrapyard city, in the shadow of the great floating paradise Salem (for reasons best known to the translators, called Zalem in the film). Fans of the original serial will no doubt appreciate the aesthetic value. Unfortunately, Battle Angel falls far short of capturing the details of the serial's plot, and takes alot of creative liscense, including inventing some characters who weren't in thegraphic novel, and borrowing some plot elements from later volumes of the manga. The whole production feels as though it was rushed to fit into two 40 minute segments, to a point where some elements aren't even explained. I.E; the scar on the wrist of Gally's love interest Yugo, while they take time to have him show the scar and associate it with bad memories, they failed to mention WHY IT WAS THERE (where his dead brother's hand was grafted on). The story advances just too quickly, and characters simply aren't given enough time to leave a lasting impression on the viewer, so what should be dramatic character driven sequences just don't hit all that hard. This unfortunately also makes the film below par even for people who hadn't read the serial, as there is not enough explanation behind the complicated setting and plot. Meanwhile, a good deal of time is wasted on rather bland fighting scenes and some pointless violence. All in all, Battle Angel, despite competent voice acting in the subtitled version, as well as decent enough music and a few well done key scenes, will be more fustrating to the viewer than anything, but fans of the graphic novel (espcially the un-american version) will probably want to check this out regardless, if only to have a fleeting glimpse of Kishiro's black and white world fleshed out. 14+ for some graphic violence, mature scenes and mild language.

Summary: entertaining
Review: Neat concept of a civilization split in 2 parts both socially and physically but interdependent. Reminded me of PC-based Septerra Core. Detailed and cool fight scenes. Hollow lead character kills otherwise attractive story, though.

Summary: Good stand alone anime
Review: If you are a new anime fan, Battle Angel: hunter warrior is a good place to start. If you're a seasoned vet, then you know this is good. The art looks like it could have been pulled directly from a manga, and for you non Japanese speaking individuals, the dubbing is pretty good too.

Summary: Great Sci Fi Anime!
Review: I recommend this to anyone who doesn't read Manga! I'd watch this six times over if I owned it! This film is a great show you can enjoy if you're mature and mentally tough!

Summary: Good enough to buy
Review: I enjoyed this anime especially considering that when I purchased it I had no idea what I was getting in to. Thankfully I was impressed with what I got. Final Criticism: Storyline- Good/ Animation- Good/ Overall- Good

Summary: It's Good, and I Hate Anime.
Review: I venture into the scary "anime" zone, full of feverishly obsessed kids who seem mesmerized by Japanese cartoons, only to say that this is the only anime I like and recommend, besides Vampire Hunter D. I really enjoyed Battle Angel. WATCH IT NOW or I shall have to hunt you down.

Summary: Very Good But????
Review: First let me say that I did enjoy the DVD very much. The art work was great and the story line was ok too. But I found that it is really too short for my taste. It would have been better also in 5:1 dolby d, not just 2:1. I think that for the cost of the DVD and the VHS, that the VHS would have been the better selection on this film. The DVD with all it's good points and extras were not enough to justify the added cost.

So unless you just want to get the DVD, I suggest the VHS. It may not have the extras, but it's alot easier on the pocket. For the DVD collector. This is a must have film.
