Summary: Good movie
Review: I got this DVD with my Alien 4-pack and although its not my favorite of the alien series, it is still a good movie.

The DVD's picture is sharp and the audio equally crisp. However, it is not the most feature packed DVD. Some of the interviews are interesting, but the most worthwhile supplement is the Making-Of Featurette, which is very insightful and entertaining.

I would recommend buying the 4-pack, which will probably save you a little cash, especially since the first two movies are the real "jewels".

Summary: Deep space psychological horror thrills....In Spades.
Review: This is a great film, a dark and gothically-styled psychological thriller with plenty of action. If this movie wasn't as it is, the whole series would have fallen apart as a somewhat better than average string of shoot-em-up sequels after the classic original Alien. Admittedly Aliens was an excellent film, but I, as a long time fan of classic psychological horror authors like HP Lovecraft, find this movie to be an absolutely excellent thriller, nearly equalling Alien in quality and exceeding it in production quality.
After surviving the first two films, Ripley finds herself once again thrust into a losing situation. Stranded on an isolated prison colony, with a group of prisoners whose bleak situation neatly parallels her own, Ripley is forced to find the inner strength to survive yet again. In her delimma she manages to forge some deep but rather transitory bonds with her odd set of fellow outcasts. An excellent group of actors portrays this group of prisoners, with strong performances all around. The Alien is as virile and lethal as ever, and Sigourney Weaver turns in an excellent performance as well. The unescapable byzantine maze of the complex where the plot takes place is perhaps the most compelling character of all, forcing every other to find their own motivation to survive. This is a far better film than Alien Resurrection in my opinion. My advice? If you like space shoot-em-ups, end the series with Alien Resurrection. If you like the classic space-horror of the original, end it with Alien 3.

Summary: "Alien 3"
Review: Alien 3 (R) ***/5
Sigourney Weaver, Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance, Pete Postlethwaite, Lance Henriksen.
Directed by: David Fincher.
Synopsis: Members of penal colony are stalked by an alien.
Special Features: Making-Of Featurette, Trailer.
Review: Ripley crash lands on a prison planet, and is now stalked by a new version of the creature. The prisoners must unite to kill it even though they have no weapons. This is a film I have a very hard time liking. It starts off by killing everyone you liked from the last one, and then it insults you by killing everyone you like in this one. Don't get me wrong it is a good film, but its mean-spirited nature makes it extremely difficult to love. The ensemble cast comes through every performance seems genuine. Weaver shines yet again. David Fincher's directing is exceptional. As for the DVD? The lack of content makes it even harder to recommend even to fans of the series.

Summary: Mediocre DVD, Great movie
Review: This stunning movie deserves a better DVD treatment than this. Even so, I did enjoy the 23-minute featurette "The Making of Alien 3" (at the very end there is an alternate trailer for Alien 3). Also, the sound and picture quality is suberb and brings to life the great score, sound effects, and the dark and claustrophobic atmosphere full of orange and black hues that make this a unique science fiction film. There is also scene selections and theatrical trailers for Alien 3 and the rest of the alien films. The menus are somewhat interactive, but when compared to the Alien and Aliens DVD, they are not very intriguing. The acting and special effects are top notch, as well as some of the alien effects in the heart-pounding action sequences. Alien 3 was the first movie David Fincher (now a world-renound director) ever made in his career and was also nominated for two academy awards. I hope FOX will release a better DVD, possibly a special edition, to better fit this dark, dramatic, and well-directed milestone in sci-fi history.

Summary: How the Alien saga was nearly ruined
Review: David Fincher, the man who would later be responsible for Seven and Fight Club (two movies that are strongly recommended), directed this third installment of the Alien saga (which was supposed to be the last one). Fincher lends what would become his trademark stylistic direction, but that alone can't save this film. The first time I saw this I said to myself the series should have ended with Aliens. Alien 3 takes everything built upon in the first two films and throws them out the window, and trust me thats not good. Its played out like a horror/slasher movie, waiting to prepare yourself for the next big shock, instead of being an intelligent action/sci-fi hybrid we were used to before. There's nothing but a lot of running, screaming, and cursing as the new (and poorly designed) "dog" alien hunts down Ripley and the prisoners. Not to mention complete logic is disposed of, if you want to know what I mean read Jeff Bollen's review, and one of my biggest complaints is after all 2 and a half plus hours of Aliens where Ripley fought to keep Newt and Hicks alive, they are both dispatched at the beginning of the movie. Alien Resurrection would follow later on, and would try to breathe new life into the series, but Alien 3 remains a landmark at how to ruin a good thing.

Summary: Not the best Alien But A Good Movie
Review: This movie focus' more on Ripley and how she feels about her family being dead. It starts out showing that an alien got on their ship and chose Ripley has it's host while her and the others where still cryogenically frozen. The alien caused the ship to catch on fire and it crashed on a planet at the edge of the solar system. The alien kept Ripley alive while the others were killed. The planet they crashed on was a jail where male prisoners lived. An alien got loose on the planet and started its killing spree. While Ripley is amune to the alien because she has one of them in her. And so began another battle between humans and aliens. This is a very good sequel to the alien series.

Summary: Hidden Trailor
Review: Go to the "Special Features" menu and there select the "Making Of" documentary. After the documentary is over, a second "Alien 3" Trailer starts that includes scenes that are not even in the final cut of the film

Summary: Great, in some areas...
Review: The movie is both good and bad. I'll give both reasons.

What is bad:
The lines are just too unreal and read off-the-script. Some of my friends memorized most of the lines during the final chase scene after seeing it 2 times. The special effects are pretty dull, especially the alien effects. Next time, they should use more real puppets and things, not to rely on computers too much (You hear that George Lucas?). Also, most of my friends felt that killing the surviving characters from the second film, and killing her lover Dr. Clemmens, was too cruel and disappointing. I think that they had no choice but to kill Newt, for she would be to old to act in it, and it left Ripley all by herself, one-on-one with the Alien.

What is good: The POV of the alien as it chases the guys down the corridors is a neat effect and should be repeated in the later films. The music is fantastic (read my review on that if you like soundtracks). Ripley acts really well (she always has in the Alien Legacy) and her confrontation to kill herself boils up through the film until the end, and she shows that nervousness in her acting. Plus, the actual killing is very dramatic and could be found in classic literature, for it is one of the greatest internal conflicts a character could have.

The film did a good job but I guess money came into play when it came to special alien effects. David Fincher did good for one of his first movies (I think it was), so that could explain some difficulties that the movie shows.

Summary: thank god for art.......
Review: this will be short and sweet.....
this movie is great. looks great. sounds great. the best of all the alien soundtracks.... not to diss ridley but finchers movie looks better color wise, compositionally and it wreaks of creativity. sorry disney fans, it is dark and bleak. get over it. maybe you think an encounter with this beast would be a walk in the park..... (nyuk nyuk nyuk)
i have heard that there is actually about three hours of film on this movie. i am hoping for a directors cut soon....
now that fincher has been recognized as a monsterous director some of the sellout critics are giving this movie a better review. not that that matters though, critics don't know art from you know what. roc doc says 4 thumbs up...lets have the full uncut directors cut now please!

Summary: What Happened?!?!?!?!?!?! 3 and a half stars
Review: I am 14 and I watched the first installment when I was; I believe 12 years old. I had not had a good experience with any kind of alien type movies like E.T. or Cocoon. The simplicity and awkwardness of those types of aliens freaked me out! Yet I sat and watched the first alien movie of the series. I liked it very much with came as a shock to me. And as soon as I could I got the second one. Thinking the second one was just as good I was thrilled to find out there were two more sequels! I immediately got Alien 3 and put it in the DVD player. Was I ever shocked!

I am sorry if I ruin the movie for the rest of the readers but it has to be said. Everything that James Cameron worked for in the second Aliens was destroyed. All of the surviving characters except Ripley die. The sweet little girl Newt that Ripley sort of adopted as her daughter drowns in her own cryo tube. And Hicks is killed by the crash.and even the driod is killed. Ripley still has her suspicions that there was an alien on board and that is confirmed when the inmates of the prison planet start dyeing all to quickly. Now for all the animal lovers a part of this movie will be hard. You see there was a face hugger in the crashed cryo tube and a dog is impregnated =(. And of course it has to burst through the chest. At this point I almost turned the movie off, but I suffered through the rest of the movie. One of the worst parts was the fact that Ripley find outs that she has a queen inside of her. Now how did it get there if there was only one face hugger and that impregnated the dog? The rest of the movie contain dull dialogue, cardboard characters and disappoint. The only good part was the good graphics and special features.

Now I eventually watched Alien Resurrection and liked it. Then eventually bought the entire legacy but I only watch the third movie if I want to watch the entire legacy from beginning to end. All in all the third installment of the Alien Series is a complete let down.
