Summary: Star Trek on DVD YAAAAAY!
Review: They say DVDs will live forever. If you are still spending money to buy the original Star Trek series on VHS, you are wasting your money. With 2 episodes on a DVD these 40 discs (when they finish the series) will live forever and take up a lot less space on your shelf. Also the picture and sound quality are 1000 times sharper than even the Sci Fi channel showings of the series in 90 minute format (with the interviews) of last year. So if you haven't ordered any of the 10 discs that are already available, then do so now. Amazon has the best prices of them anywhere, on or offline.

Summary: DVD good for Trekkers
Review: If you're someone who likes checking out ST trivia, the DVD versions are much better than the VHS. When I saw something unusual, I was able to advance the DVD step-by-step and to freeze frame a shot with a clarity that is beyond most VHS tapes and players. For example, in "Where No Man Has Gone Before," I was able to see that the headstone was carved with the name James R. Kirk instead of James T. Kirk. I also thought I saw Deforest Kelly in the background of the 3-D chess scene, though I'm probably wrong. (Take a look at the guy in the blue uniform who's face is briefly between the top and next level.) However, while the DVD quality is better, it has not improved enough to pay to replace ALL of my tapes. I will, however, buy the DVD versions of my favorite episodes and those I don't have yet. As for putting only two episodes on a DVD that could handle four, I figure it's still cheaper to buy the DVD than it is to buy two separate tapes. (Anyway, it isn't like we don't already know that Paramount is a greedy corporation that seeks to bleed the fans dry.)

Summary: Who Cares if there are only 2 episodes per DVD
Review: Why does everyone care that there are only two episodes per DVD? I grew up watching this show and this format does it justice. Someone said that the surround sound is cheesey. Of course it is. That is what makes the show so good is that the entire production is cheesey. If the surround wouldn't have been it would not match the ambiance of the rtest of the show. This format is fantastic. I just wish they would release the episodes all at once----like tommorow.

Summary: If you are a Star Trek fan, buy this DVD!
Review: This is the first DVD that i ever bought and I am glad that I did! It is wonderful! The picture quality is so clear that it hurt my eyes! Can't wait for the DVD releases of all 79 plus The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager!

Summary: Star Trek the Original Series Vol 01
Review: I love re-discovering it again. But I gave the DVD 4 stars for the lack of spanish in the dubbed/subtitled options. A huge portion of the U.S.A. is hispanic and I being married to one would enjoy this much more if my wife who speaks English as well as spanish could also enjoy it in spanish which of course she understands better. Please add more languages in the future releases!

Summary: Great Buy!
Review: It is great that these videos are being released on DVD. The video quality is superior to what you would get on tape. True Star Trek fans will not be disappointed!

Summary: Great Deal Despite Having Only 2 Episodes
Review: While it's true that Paramount could have crammed more episodes on to this disk, the situation is not as horrible as some reviewers might have you believe. Compared to the original VHS release of the episodes, the DVD release is still a good deal. Even on Amazon, the VHS tapes of the show are 11.99 each, and on the tapes you get only one episode. The DVD, on the other hand, even at the full price of 19.99, would still come out to 10 bucks per episode, which is less per-episode than the VHS version. And at Amazon's price of 13.99, it's only 7 bucks per episode. Add to that the fact that the DVD comes with added goodies, such as the original TV previews and trailers, and the DVD looks better and better.

Yes, two episodes could have been put on the VHS tapes, and several on the DVD disc. Nevertheless, for true fans, it's still a great deal. I just wish they'd come out and release them all!

Summary: To little for a dvd
Review: ...two shows on a disc is not enough. Tapes could only hold somuch, and so can dvds but I'm sorry, anyone who buys these are gettingripped off. The Stand miniseries is on one disc for pete's sake. You could easily fit the ENTIRE series in say a five disc set. Honestly...Even a hard core fan isn't going to buy every episode on dvd when only two episodes are on it a piece. But even a casual fan couldn't resist the entire series in a box set of only a few discs... Hardcore fans already have the shows on tape, and new fans don't waste your time. Watch the re-runs. END

Summary: Just too expensive and wasteful
Review: Whoever made this disc turned off their brain before doing it. I borrowed a friend's discs to look at these early shows and am very happy I did not buy them myself. While I enjoyed the programs and found the quality very good, it is ridiculous to have only two episodes on a disc that could fit many more.

If you don't already know, DVDs are not going to be any kind of permanent archival medium -- it is a convenient way to look at video today. When the disc is full of shows that are as good as the old Star Trek episodes, I will buy them.

I would not buy this disc.

Summary: Dear Paramount Marketing,
Review: Recently having purchased a DVD player, I was excited to see the old series of Star Trek episodes on DVD. Then I noticed you only put two episodes on one disc! Hmm. I am really disappointed in you Paramount. Why did you do it this way? Is it to make more money? This sure doesn't point to much else. You could have put 6 episodes on a disc and I would have been willing to pay more. So much for efficiency in Technology. Star Trek is a part of me--I grew up on it and would have loved to get the whole collection. But now I will pick only my very favorites and go see the rest in syndication. Please go back to your spreadsheets and rethink this one. -A Fan
