Summary: Superb Customer Service
Review: ReplayTV is well worth adopting early and often. It took a while to set up the system correctly -- due, I confess, to my anathema toward manuals no matter how simply written (and ReplayTV's is quite lucid). The customer service couldn't be better. They took at least a dozen calls as I worked my way through the setup and each time answered the phone quickly, knew what to do, and to a person exhibited a cheerful Job-like patience with me and the process. Wish that all customer service personnel were so well trained!

Others have already commented on the features... the biggest draw for me is the ease of use and the ability to create theme channels. I found VCRs to be fussy monsters ("plug and play," my arse). This is one technological advance long overdue. I can't wait to see what other innovations lie in the pipeline.

I took away a star because the screen gives off a blue triangle in the lower right hand corner whenever I play a recorded show. It's not a huge distraction, but worth noting.

post script: AOL bought out TiVo, yet another reason to choose ReplayTV.

Summary: Good but A little confusing to set up
Review: The product was a little confusing to set up but after reading the instructions(it helps to read the intructions)I got the system up and running in a fairly complicated setup. The product works great and I recommend the product.

Summary: Its okay, but TiVo is better....
Review: The ReplayTV boxes are good, but for boxes that do essentially the same thing (and, in the long run, cost essentially the same amount), the TiVo wins on user friendliness and support.

Summary: Great Stuff
Review: The ReplayTV unit is fabulous. Unbelievably easy to use, it not only works flawlessly, but it does more than we saw advertised and written about it. It's better than TiVo because it doesn't spy on your behavior and it has no monthly cost. If I have to pick nits, it would be easier to enter titles if the remote worked like most cell phones for text entry, rather than using arrows to guide a cursor over a keyboard image, and, the instruction manual should be better indexed. However, these things apply mostly to the initial setup and not to ongoing use, so, we are completely satisfied and have no second thoughts whatsoever. This is what you want.

Summary: A must-have gadget
Review: Very quick/easy setup and an extremely usable interface. It's so nice to be able to pause when you're watching live TV and then pick the broadcast back up when you're good and ready. The features are so slick/addictive that I've caught myself trying to fast-forward when I'm watching a live signal. Now I always have a couple of recorded shows/movies on standby for the kids to watch - instead of frantically surfing through all my channels to see if anything decent is on. I should have bought one of these a long time ago...

Summary: Many advantages over Tivo
Review: WOW!! I LOVE ReplayTV!! This thing is great!!

Both Tivo and ReplayTV have similar advantages over a VCR and are way too numerous to mention here, you'll find those in other reviews I'm sure. So I'll just tell you some of the results of my research comparing Tivo and ReplayTV.

First, I poured over LOTS of opinions about Tivo vs. ReplayTV and looked at both of their web sites. ReplayTV was the clear winner. My list of features I wanted included 7 'must haves' and 15 'would likes'. Out of those ReplayTV had 6 'must haves', (Tivo only had 1), and ReplayTV had 12 'would likes', (Tivo only had 7). (I'm sorry there's not room to list them all here). So the choice for ReplayTV became obvious.

ReplayTV can record 1 to 240 minutes before and/or after the 'scheduled' show time. Plus you can even modify your settings via the internet with ReplayTV.

I have to say, the 'Skip 30 seconds' button (on ReplayTV) wasn't even on my list but it is GREAT!! When the commercials come on I press the button a few times and I'm right back in the show!! And the 'Skip back 7 seconds' button is also very handy for when you want to see something amazing again, or miss a joke on the sit-coms, (even on live TV).

Setup of ReplayTV was much faster and easier than I expected.

The ONLY negative thing I could say about ReplayTV is the bad location of the 'Previous Channel' button on the remote.

I am VERY happy with ReplayTV, I've had it for 3 months and no problems. And I'm finding out new ways to use it all the time. I highly recommend it. Have fun! :-)
