Summary: Poor quality transfer
Review: An awesome subject is ruined by a careless video transfer. Very grainy appearance.

Summary: Slightly disapointing
Review: Buying the DVD version, I was expecting a big improvement over the VHS copy I had bought a few years back. Unfortunately the video quality of the DVD is only slightly better. It still has too much grain in the picture for me. Not a good demonstration DVD but the music is still good!

Summary: National Park Footage to Good Music
Review: Here, the real gem is 'Desert Vision'. Great care was taken in preparing it's video/audio material for DVD authoring. 'Canyon Dreams' has some breathtaking footage as well, though there is rather poor video fidelity compared to 'Desert Visions'. The 'Canyon Dreams' soundtrack by Tangerine Dream works very well in it's synchronization to the images provided, however. One wishes the same care was taken in the video preparation of 'Canyon Dreams'. The cinematography and subject matter deserve good technical quality. Overall, you would be hard pressed to find a better DVD value for the asking price. Two hours of quality national park footage, with high quality music from talented composers.

Summary: Majectic presentation of the spectacles of the Grand Canyon
Review: I had the opportunity to see this shortly after it was originaly produced. I have personally been to the canyon several times and even went down it once. This video does a good job of bringing to light the experiences I had perviously. It is an excellent presentation demonstrating much artistry in the capturing and editing of the scenes filmed.

Even more so than the video, I particularly enjoy the music. The composition and performance is top notch. It easily ranks among my favorite pieces of music. What more needs to be said?

The only real drawback for this video is the poor quaility of the transfer. The video is slightly grainy (it can easily be ignored by the average viewer) but what I find as inexcusable is the audio being overmodulated in several sections. Particularly noticable at the start of the first and third segments of this picture. Its as if no one bothered to listen to the master after the transfer was complete. In looking at the above reviews, the concensus (and as you see, I agree for the most part) is that a spectular presentation was rendered less so by poor attention to detail in transfering the picture to DVD.

It would almost be worth it to me to buy a VHS copy, if it were availible.

Summary: I'm not sure what the others are talking about...
Review: I had the pleasure of seeing this video in 1990, and it was a great experience! Very relaxing and gave you the feeling of soaring above it all like a bird in flight. Worth getting! And check out the others in the series- all worth it!

Summary: Really bad DVD transfer
Review: See the Grand Canyon from your living room. Segments include beautiful fly over views of the canyon. Including everybodys favorite Havasu Falls! Instrumental music by Tangerine Dream adds to the experience. Grainy slow motion picture is the only drawback. This is a one of a kind DVD!

Summary: Major omission on this one!
Review: The listing of this DVD sounds like you are getting a cheapWalmart unknown artist on a bargin basement DVD.

NOT!

No wheredoes it say that the artist on Desert Vision is none other than David Lanz and is a video duplicate of his CD by the same name. So, if you don't know Mr. Lanz, he is (IMHO) the premire pianist of our age. His many CDs are in my collection and are the best of all my music. Don't take my word for it. Find his CDs on Amazon and visit his web site [...]

The Desert Visions DVD is great. Serves well as video/audio background and discussion when friends are relaxing or having dinner at my place. Try it. END
