Summary: Tivo's customer service is terrible!
Review: My unit broke (displayed just snow) and I called Tivo to get a replacement. After walking me through a painfully long troubleshooting procedure, they said someone would get back to me in the next two days. I asked them to call my work number, as I wouldn't be at home during the day. 3 days later I had a message waiting for me at home. The next day I called them back from home. They walked me through the same painful guide and, again, told me they'd call me back. Again, 3 business days later, I got a call with a message. No one answered the number given for several days, and then the message said they had moved, and left no forwarding number. It's been 3 weeks, and still no Tivo....

Summary: Love My Tivo!
Review: I bought the 14 hour Tivo about a month ago. Now, I can't imagine watching TV without it! It's so much better than a VCR. There are so many things I loke about Tivo:

1. You can start watching a program at the beginning even if Tivo's still recording it.

2. The season pass -- select a program once and it records it every time it's on the choosen channel.

3. The ability to combine my local channels and the satellite dish channels and see a program guide for all of them.

4. Now Showing -- it's great choosing from a list of recorded programs instead of trying to find the spot on the tape where a program begins.

5. If you're watching something that you haven't asked Tivo to record, it still records the most recent 30 minutes. So, if you get distracted, you can pick up where you left off.

6. The ability to record based on lots of selection criteria (show name, channel, time, etc.)

Someone else wrote that you can't go back to the previous channel. But, the "enter" button will take you back.

Tivo's the best purchase I've made in a long time, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Changed the way I watched TV... It's addictive.
Review: I have had my Tivo now for 5 months. My husband was very much against me buying one. (I paid 499.00) he thought it was a waste of money, well now he wants to buy a second one!

We now watch TV at our convenience. I often make use of the Pause and rewind features. I have all my favorite shows on a Season Pass and never have to worry about missing them anymore.

*One* click of the button and my shows are recorded for the whole season I never have to give it a second thought.

It has combined my regular Cable TV and my Dish all into one on screen program guide. It is just the most amazing thing I have used.

When I have to watch TV in a room without Tivo I get frustrated because I can't pause or rewind or anything, so I need a second unit.

Maybe your saying you won't use all the features.. well that is what my husband said, and he constantly plays with it.

My only problem with this system is the remote has no "go Back" button to go back to the last channel you were on. that stresses me out.

My husband doesn't like the program guide, but I do.

All in all.. this is an amazing system to have. DONT HESITATE

Summary: A MUST HAVE FOR ALL ELECTRONICS / TV FANS!
Review: I have had my 14 hour unit for a month now and LOVE IT! Those few people who say they had problems with setup are obviously electronicly challenged. It was a cinch. My only regret is I could not find a 30 hour unit in Cleveland and had to settle for 14 hour as I did not want to order online. I am now ready to add a second 14 hour, or perhaps a 30 hour. If you are thinking of buying one - don't hesitate.

Summary: Incredible Product, Superior to ReplayTV
Review: I researched this issue extensively and then purchased a Tivo unit. Tivo has changed the way we watch TV and is very easy to use. My comparisons to replay showed that Tivo is much more intuitive and reliable. Buy it

Summary: Sheeesh!
Review: I got TiVo for the family at Christmas this year. Since then it's become almost impossible to sit down and watch TV without thinking out loud, "I love my TiVo!".

Setup was not without it's glitches, and sure the thing's got a few bugs, but overall it works VERY well indeed. My favorite feature is the ability to select a TV program up to two weeks in advance and just hit a button and have it automagically recorded when it's on. It gets listed in the "Now Playing" section when it's ready. Even if I had forgotten in the mean time, it's just right there for me to see. Then, AFTER I've seen the program I can decide if it's worth a video tape to keep it for posterity with the cool "copy this program to VCR" feature.

My one fear about having it was that we would spend more time watching TV, but the opposite has actually happened. The time we spend in front of the tube is actually less, but it's much more enjoyable. Go figure.

Watching TV will never be the same. We're going to buy one for my wife's parents for their anniversary; and we may even buy another one for the house. Sheeesh!

Summary: Liked so much, I bought another one....
Review: I must admit I was skeptical of this new technology, but, after having Tivo for two months I can't ever think of going back to the old VCR days. It is a similar to the difference between the old 8mm movies and VCR tapes. Really.

What I like best is that I can watch TV without those annoying, time wasting commercials. I love to fly through them. All I do, is start watching every show I want to watch 15 minutes after Tivo starts to record it. I then zip through the commercials and am caught up with the show by the end of the show. Of course, if I wish to watch a recorded show, I can do the same thing. I now realize that we get about 40 minutes of net TV in an hour due to those commercials.

If you get that phone call in the middle of the best part of the show - no problem - just hit the pause button and get back to it after the phone call without missing one second of your program.

I record all my shows in the 14 hour mode. Quality is very acceptable for 99% of what I record.

The remote is very well designed. In a short time, you can "work it in the dark."

Ease and speed of setting up shows to record is second to none.

Sure, the initial setup took three to four hours, but, you only do that once, and it is easy to do. Most of that time it spends downloading the initial program guide for your area. Your actual part is about 20 minutes.

14 hour mode unit is the price performer. Imagine having 14 hours of TV to watch. Hard to do. This forces a "watch and dump" and you stay current, or, it autmatically erases oldest shows when it needs room.

What's the proof of my satisfaction?

I just ordered my second Tivo for my wife.

She is a "tape collector" and has about 100 old tapes that I know she will NEVER watch. I hope to break her of that habit.

By the way, those of you that paid $499 (last year's price) don't forget that some credit cards will refund price differences if they are within 60 days. My Amex did.

Also, since the hard drive in the unit runs 24 hours a day, extended service policy may be a good idea. You never turn the Tivo off. Or, at least buy it with a credit card that extends your warranty to match original warranty.

Summary: TIVO IS A REVOLUTION
Review: I wanted to wait a month before giving my comments on this system. I have a complicated stereo system and was unsure if I could incorporate Tivo into it. I have a Sony receiver that has on screen capabilities and runs my 200 disc player, two vcr's, Hughes Satellite system (direct TV), my Sega Dreamcast and now my Tivo. I took out the manual and and started to go through the set up. I had very little difficulty in getting everything programmed correctly. I will never be without this system again it is simply unbelievable. I am still discovering some of the clever ways Tivo was designed to assist the owner in finding everything they will want to watch.

Summary: TiVo customer service - what a joke
Review: I bought TiVo from amazon.com, saving myself the sales tax. When I got it, I carefully read the instructions, finding out that you couldn't use it with a digital PBX phone system, but analog would be fine. When I hooked it up, it didn't connect. I called customer support MULTIPLE TIMES, but they never returned my call when they promised. At one time, I was on hold for 45 min. One representitive told me to send it back to amazon.com, when the unit WAS NOT DEFECTIVE. I had to buy another one, when it had the exact same problem, for a grand total of 2 TiVos. Another rep said to go to Radio Shack and buy a wireless phone jack, which didn't work either. They cost me more than they are worth. I ended up sending the other one back too. The unit is really well designed, but if I were going to buy one, I would wait until there are more competitiors. It's still to early to buy one.

Summary: Great product but....
Review: I bought a Tivo about two months ago and it has changed the way I watch TV. I have only used the five VCRs in my house about two times since getting Tivo. It is great. My only complaints, are about the fixed pricing on the units and lack of new updates to the software. There is so much more this thing could do, the Phillips doesn't upgrade it to do anything more than it already does. I also want an affordable upgrade for it. 14 hours is not enough recording time and there isn't an upgrade path to a larger storage capacity. I have called several times to see about the upgrades and they keep telling me that there isn't one. I checked the RePlay web site and their users are really happy about the number of new features that they have for RePlay. You would think that Phillips would see this and add features to keep up.
