Summary: Shining example of the power of film
Review: "Hoop Dreams" is perhaps one of the finest examples of the power of film making. Light-years beyond a "basketball movie", this documentary has caught the essence of the American Dream unlike anything else I have ever seen before. Here is an utterly real look at the struggle of the human spirit and all that accompanies it - the hopes and dreams, the failures and despair, the victories and defeats, the pain, the struggle, and the love and jubilation that is life. If you have ever wondered "what's it all about?", well, the answer lies somewhere within this film. "Hoop Dreams" is one of the most enriching films you will ever see.

Summary: `Hoops' a Dream to intake
Review: "Hoop Dreams", one of the finest documentaries ever produced is a sometimes heartbreaking journey through four years of two boys high school lives. Arthur Agee and William Gates are two African American boys whose only dream is to play basketball in the NBA like Isiah Thomas or MJ. Through sorrow and joy we follow Arthur and William through there lives, and a wonderful story is told. You barely notice that the film runs three hours, and the basketball scenes are exciting as the real-life family troubles the boys face. See this film at any cost!

Summary: Long, but realistic, truthful, and good.
Review: 'Hoop Dreams' is not the most exciting documentary, but it is one of the most truthful in showing the struggle for become rich and famous. It is the real-life story of two black kids trying to make it in the NBA. Along the way, they show people who have failed, such as Gates' brother. Its very sad and depressing and does not have a happy ending.
But viewers must understand it is a realitic movie. This is what happens 99.99999 percent of the time.

Summary: Example Of Outstanding Film
Review: 3 hours is quite a while for a documentary, but the director needed that much time to take you through the lives of two young boys from the inner city with dreams of playing in the NBA. The single-mindedness of these boys to achieve their goals at any cost is compelling. The attitudes displayed by the people around them is just unbelievable. These boys are nothing more than race horses in this film.
It is a must see for anyone with ambitions to achieve the highest levels of a sport or almost any other thing.

Review: A great story of triumph against all odds. A must see.

Summary: Perhaps the Greatest Film Ever Made
Review: And easily the best of the nineties. I've heard people using excuses such as "It's too long" or "It's a documentary" or "It's just a sports movie." Well it is a documentary, but I've seen two other documentaries ("Roger and Me" and "Hearts of Darkness") that rank among the finest I've seen. "Hoop Dreams" encompasses not only basketball, not only the ghettos, but life itself. We see ups and downs, successes and failures, and because we know it's all real, the film affects us tremendously. Its length is no factor. When the Gates or the Agees make bad decisions we cringe, when they gain succeed we cry (literally.) No other film has such an incredible impact emotionally and intellectually. This film will change your life.

Summary: It's a Great 2 Pointer
Review: Hoop Dreams is a Video that basically talks about two boys and their dream to go to the N.B.A. Toward the middle of the video, the boys get a letter in the mail that said, "Coach Floyd's basketball camp, cost fifty dollars." The boys got real excited because they were saving up some money to buy the new Michael Jordan shoes when they came out. They went and got permission from their parents and then got real excited and prepared, but it was not going to be what they expected. When they got there, they got into lots of trouble. My favorite part is where they beat a couple of bullies in a two-on-two game. The only reason they did not get kicked out is because they were so good at basketball. Overall this is a great book especially for basketball lovers. It has great actions like when they beat the bullies in a game and it seems realistic like how tired they get and how intense some of the games get. You basketball lovers out there should see this video today....
