Summary: Not Enough Big Sticks in the Lineup
Review: "The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training" suffers from Walter Matthau's absence. Matthau's sly, broken-down performance as Buttermaker that elevated the original. This time out, William Devane coaches the team, and though he does a fine job, the movie doesn't spark the way the first on did.

Also missing is Tatum O'Neal. This time out, it's Jackie Earle Haley taking centerstage as the team sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds heads to the Astrodome to battle the pride of Texas, the Toros. Devane is his Haley's estranged father and their relationship forms the emotional core of the film.

This is a pleasant enough romp. But without Matthau and O'Neal and their classic characters, too many runners are left stranded on the bases, and the late inning rally just doesn't happen.

Summary: Bad News in Houston
Review: For the second time we get to join The Bears. This time they leave California with Jackie Earl Haley as the driver. This is one of those movies that you wish you could take part in. Just sit in the van and be one of The Bears. When they finally arrive in Houston a day late, Haley has to find his long gone father(William Devane) to solv some problems with the police. Good news he becoms the coach. The Bears discover they need to freshen up their baseballskills. After heavy preparations, the team are finally ready for the Houston Astrodome. The movie itself is just as innocent as the Bears. We need that sometimes.....

Summary: Wonderful Movie
Review: I love the Bad News Bears in Breaking Training for two reasons. Its a great movie and its the first movie i saw in the theaters on a 1977 summer afternoon in Bayside, NY. I was 7 at the time when my parents took me. The movie is both funny and heartwarming. Tanner Boyle is still the toughest bear around. I remember after i saw the movie how I idolized Kelly Leak. Great story line with Kelly trying to make amends with his estranged Dad played by William Devane. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: A Good Preteen Fantasy
Review: I love this movie, but mostly for sentimental reasons. I saw it with my Dad and my best friend on a summer afternoon in 1977 when I was 12. In looking at it now, one would have to be about 12 or 13 to fully appreciate the story of the adventures of kids who steal a van to play in a baseball game across the country. Good scenery and it certainly captures the spirit of it's era. As for adult audiences? I don't think so, unless you were a kid during the 70s. You hadda be there. Oh yeah, the theme song is great too.

Summary: One of the greatest movies EVER!
Review: I need to buy this tape for several reasons. First of all, I want to show it to my 6 year old daughter. She already loves baseball and maybe if she sees it, I will have no chance whatsoever of becoming a soccer mom. This is one of the greatest baseball movies of all time. I loved it as a kid and still love it to this day and the main reason is because that bimbo Tatum O'Neal is NOT in the movie. Christopher Barnes was hilarious. I don't know why he decided to crawl under a rock and exist now in obscurity, but I still love him. Even though the kids all swore and disrespected their elders, they did have a loyalty and camaraderie for each other. Bad News Bears in Breaking Training is a film that captures the American Way.

Summary: Greatest Sports Film
Review: I saw it in the theaters in '77 when I played little league and never really got over the idea of stealing a van. I liked it better than the original which was good but lacked the depth and incredible climax of the "let them play" scene. Plus, Bob Watson makes a guest appearance. Jackie Earl Haley never got the respect he deserved and probably should have been nominated for an Oscar for his role as Kelly Leak in this film.
