Summary: Mine broke down after 6 months
Review: After 6 months of light use as my second VCR/DVD player, the VCR portion stopped working. I'd look for another brand if I were you.

Summary: It's Fine Until It's Not
Review: Granted I wasn't looking for top-of-the-line when I got this combo viewer, but I did want something that works. It did, at first. I actually got to watch three whole DVD's before it started skipping. Then it just started saying there was no disk to read. That, unfortunately happened about two weeks after the 90-day full warranty ended. I've been exchanging emails with their customer service. They sent me the packaged responses--which basically said to email a representative--three times before a (actually, two)representative(s) got back to me. The first one suggested a lens cleaner. A lens cleaner requires either an accessible lens or that the machine recognize a disk is there. Since neither of those things is the case, I really have to wonder at the genius behind the response. Simultaneously, another customer service representative answered saying I should call them to find out where to send the machine and that I would have to pay for labor and/or parts (and, of course, for the shipping), depending on where I was with the warranty. That means I'll have to pay labor. I'm just guessing, because, admittedly, I haven't made the call, yet, but my bet is the whole process would cost me more than the machine did in the first place. This thing is a piece of garbage, and the way they treat their customers reflects the same devotion to quality.

Review: I have had mine for about 3 months. VHS works fine but machine makes grinding noises during playback. Biggest problem is with DVD player - every DVD gets "stuck" about 2/3 through the movie. I can't even make it stop or eject without turning the machine off. It sometimes gives a bad DVD message or no DVD message for DVD's I've played before. It was inexpensive, but even still I didn't get a good year out of it.

Summary: Bad right out of the box!
Review: I never even got around to watching a DVD. The first day I had it, I tried to tape a basketball game. Five minutes into the tape the machine screwed up and started recording unusable streaks of color. Additionally, the layout of the controls on the remote was bizarre and confusing, and the controls on the machine itself were extremely minimal. I've rarely been as immediately and completely dissatisfied with a purchase. I went to the go-video web site as listed in the packing materials- (http://www.sonicblue.com) and was directed to three new websites- none of which even acknowledged that they make a dvd/vhs machine. I promptly took it back and exchanged it for a Panasonic.

Summary: Stay as far away as possible...
Review: I purchased two of these from Target. One unit would not even power up when plugged into wall socket. (Called technical support-he said must be defective power supply and to return it to them and they would send out new one but I would have to pay the shipping to return it!! Forget that! I took back to store at my own leisure and will look for something else.) The other worked but the sound and the lips of people talking were not in sync! I wish I had read the reviews before making the purchase...but for $99 I thought it would be acceptable for what I needed. (One was to be a gift for my sister-good thing I tested it first)

Summary: I have to agree with the other reviews: avoid this item!
Review: I returned this to the store after trying it out. And, as usual, I try to pass along my reviews of such returns.

Right out of the box, things did not bode well. The remote is terrible. It's about 50% unresponsive. Even with fresh batteries, including freshly charged rechargables, you can aim the remote at the sensor, press a button, and you MAY get the response. IF you do, pressing the same button again, say Power, and you might NOT get the command sent to the remote.

Only had 1 major gripe with the VHS side. The tracking control does not appear to work correctly. It takes about 30 to 60 seconds before ATR kicks in, then, a few seconds later, tracking roll appears again. And, this was even on a tape recorded by another GoVideo product!

Didn't get a chance to test too much with the DVD side. Because, it wasn't that good of a DVD player. Colors were dark and tended to bleed. Scene changes were not smooth, but immediate transitions, resulting in loss of video. This apparently a redraw issue since many times menu items tend to bleed over from a previous menu. Lastly, the PIP display where you supposedly can move through the chapters by just typing in the chapter number simply didn't work.

Bottom line is you could do worse. It's not that expensive, so, you won't have wasted a whole slew of bills. BUT, it's still nowhere near worth the price, even at that! Pass on this item, too.

Summary: I dunno
Review: I've had mine for a year - not this exact model, but close enough.

It is terrific. I love the fast start feature that lets you go right to the movie instead of having to sit through all the idiotic features and trailers that some DVD producers force you to watch and disable the DVD FF buttons.

Anyway, this seems to be a fine deck, the price was right, the VCR quality is as good as any VHS can be and the copy feature works great.

The only thing I don't like is the remote control unit. It doesn't work with SHARP tv's very well and the volume ocntrol stops working when you go to DVD or VCR mode. to FF a tape or a disk you have to select the mode then select the TV mode again to change the volume on the set. This is annoying.

Other than that I would buy another just for the unique features.

Summary: Waste of Money
Review: I've had this unit for less than 3 months and the DVD has stopped working--the counter continues to run, but no video or audio. Very dissapointing. Save the $$ and put it towards a more reliable brand. Just wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing mine!

Summary: It don't work !!!!
Review: Plain and simple it only played 4 out of 9 DVD'sI tried playing on it. And of the 4 it did play, they were PG-13 or R, I had to reset the parental control each time before it would play and I did have the Parental Control set correctly to 8-adult so GO FIGURE!

And the remote is awful, has to be pointed just at the right spot to work, just a little bit off and for get it. I have had it 2 days and it's otta here.
