Summary: Awful grainy picture
Review: For a 6 head VCR the picture is terrible. The picture looks like those $20 VCR's you find at Walmart. I bought this to replace the Panasonic VCR that died, I should have bought another Panasonic. The DNR (dynamic noise reduction) does nothing to improve the picture. The Hi-Fi audio is also substandard. I am only using this as a backup until I find another Panasonic on Ebay. If you buy this VCR you will be disappointed if you are looking for great picture quality.

Summary: Lack Of Details
Review: I have been shopping for a coupe of VCR s with SVHS capability.

Amazon does not mention if any of thier VCRs have this capability, even under technical details (which offers very little details of anything.) This is probably the most important feature in buying a new VCR, but is ignored by Amazon. Evenet though there is a space for SVHS capability on the comparison list, it is not filled in - and since there seems to be no way to email them i've placed it on a review.

Summary: Such a disappointment--what happened to Toshiba's VCRs?
Review: My wife and I were given a Toshiba VCR for a wedding gift in 1987. It lasted more than ten years without ever giving us a problem. While its technology obviously fell behind--way behind--the thing was a workhorse, taping thousands of hours of video and standing up to countless hours of playback without ever diminishing in picture quality. When that VCR died, we didn't hesitate to buy another Toshiba.

We purchased this one specifically because of its features and six heads, assuming we'd get top-notch picture quality. Boy, were we surprised.

After getting past the clunky programming features (which actually took a step back from our older model), we weren't overly impressed with the picture quality. We have a high-end Sony TV and digital cable, so we're used to a good picture. No matter what we tried, the recordings from this VCR, even with top-end tapes, were muddy and snow-y, with distortion and no color depth. Sound quality was murky as well.

In addition, the tracking was never quite right. Besides struggling with tapes recorded on the VCR itself, it often would not play tapes from other VCRs at all, no matter how hard we tried to fiddle with the tracking. Ugh.

Having kept it too long to return it, the VCR became our backup to a Mitsubishi that very much out-performed this one. It was an expensive lesson, but we figured it was adequate for a backup...until it died just shortly over a year after we purchased it. A trip to the shop confirmed it would cost a bundle to repair (it had two separate problems), so...it went into the trash can.

We were so disappointed that we will never buy another Toshiba VCR, and likely no other Toshiba product, period.

Yeah, the thing rewinds a tape very fast and the exterior looks nice. But who cares if it's a piece of junk? Ouch.

Summary: Excellent Value for the Price
Review: This is an excellent 6-head hi-fi vcr for playing back rental movies or recording programs. The 6 head feature creates an incredible picture quality especially when recording in SLP mode. This vcr is very easy to use and setup without the manual. And the rewinding speed is incredible because it can go through an entire 120 minute tape in about 60 seconds. I am planning on purchasing the same vcr for my friend's birthday. If you are looking for an exceptional value purchase this VCR. It offers so much for such a small price.

Summary: Good deck, but remote did not work for me.
Review: This seems like a fine VHS deck. Unfortunately, I had to return it because the remote did not work well for me. In my den set-up, the VCR deck is above the TV set, about 5 1/2 feet off the ground. The Toshiba remote did not work well controlling the deck at this height. I had to raise the control above my head for it to work.
