Review: I bought this system for myself last christmas, about 12 months ago. The sound was great, I even played with the Karoke. The alarm worked fine. I play mostly CD's and the 3 cd changer worked fine. I tried the tape player and that's good also. However, the CD player just gave up the ghost. Don't know why. It tries to start but fails. I know they only warranty the units for one years but I think they should last longer than that.

Review: I got this system for christmas and it was the best present ever. It was EZ to set up. It has so many features on it like kareokee (?) and even a game. But the best part of this system is the bass. It has turned my old CDS into great CDs and its got BBE which enhances high pitched stuff. The tuner is great after you set up the FM radio antenna (?). I haven't tried out the AM radio yet but nobody listens to that. Its so easy to get any radio station; you just set a # for a station and press that # to go to it. CHA-CHING! I have 18 station presets. The tape works fine and it records stuff on tape fine. Theres a timer which wakes me up to the Beastie Boys every school day. Also the display is awesome! The only thing about this system is that its 200 fricking watts which is enough to blow out all your windows man! I listen to it on 10 of 50 and its sooooo loud. Bt thats coo'. So get this system instead some hurtin' sony that has no bass!

Summary: Solid system, with lots of extras
Review: I purchased this system to reward my teenager for sustained effort. It got a very complete workout in the day and a half since we've had it, and I have one very satisfied teen. System setup was slightly confusing due to an extra set of cables, due to the subwoofer, and labeling that was not completely obvious. The instructions are extremely multi-lingual, though apparently at the expense of completeness. In particular, I found them switching between use of the remote and controls on the unit itself without any indication of that switch. Since we did all setup without the remote, due to a lack of the necessary 2 AA batteries, this caused some unnecessary confusion. I also ran into somewhat unintuitive control sequences (sleep does not equal timer).

Once it is up and running, though, this unit really pumps out the sound. We tried a wide variety of CDs and they all are reproduced extremely well, even using only the preset EQs. The little experimenting we did with the tuner showed very good sound for easy-to-recieve stations. The unit is in a basement room, and the tuner is not a total station magnet. It will take some experimentation to fine-tune antenna placement.

The highlight of the unit for my teen is the karaoke features. Get a decent microphone, say an Audio-Technica, plug it in, figure out the relevent settings, and run for it. You'll get hours and hours of solitude while your teen sings all their favorite songs. The only persisting downside is that I need more sound insulation of my kid's room, even when this unit is set to a very moderate setting of 12 (on a scale of 1 to 50).

Bottom line: This is a great moderately priced system for someone who wants the extras, particularly the karaoke. If you want to stick to the music, there might be better systems without the frills. Thus, its a perfect system for a teen who wants to sing/rap!

Summary: This Stereo RULES!!!
Review: Loud, Loud, and Louder!! I have had this system now for 5 years and it still works perfectly for CD's! I have my playstation 2 and DVD player hooked up for audio through the MD and Video channels on the back of the system and it makes movies and games more fun to play. You can feel the rumble of thunder like the real thing, or a bomb exploding, and glass shattering everywhere like its at your feet!!! The only downside of it is that one tape player stopped working after about 2 1/2 years, and the other one just last month, Jan 05. 5 years is pretty good for a tape player I think. I can't close the door on one, and both don't play tapes. But everything else still works AS NEW! If you can find one, you won't be disappointed.

Review: There are several reasons to select this unit over all others in this catagory. The karaoke feature, the high wattage and most importantly the bi-amp circutry. The bi-amp feature is most important in a low cost unit because it isolates the low frequency and allots 80 watts. The higher frequency drivers have their own 20 watt amp. If you listen carefully you will appreciate this. The Karaoke feature is a blast and works quite well! The clock and timer are a great idea. No more getting up in the middle of the night to turn off the music. Also the ultimate alarm clock! A well thought out and executed design. Past experience leads me to beleive that this unit should last quite a while.
