Summary: slow eject and cd changing!
Review: As far as sound goes, this system is really nice. But before you buy it on the net go to a real store and play around with it. It takes an enormous amount of time to eject a cd from this box, switching cd's is really slow, and you have to stop the music if you want to insert another cd. These problems might sound minor, but they are not unless you dont mind taking a nap while you try to insert a cd. Also, there is about 15 seconds delay between every song when the system is in the 'random' mode with more than 1 cd. I just bought this system and Im so annoyed by this 'lightning speed' cd changing mechanism, Im going to ship it back tomorrow.

Summary: A Jukebox for the New Millennium
Review: I have always had great success with Panasonic products. I made a BIG mistake a year ago when I tried a Philips-Magnavox. It has already stopped working, and now I'm back to Panasonic to stay. I received the SC-AK27 yesterday, and I couldn't be more pleased! First of all, the futuristic design of the system (which measures approx. 30" long X 14" high X 13" deep) is AWESOME. And when you fire it up, you're treated to a spectacular display of colored lights! Then there's the incredible sound quality -- crystal clear, with the booming bass of the built-in subwoofers. This puppy really ROCKS! The sound can easily be adjusted in a variety of ways to suit any taste and any style of music. The SC-AK27 is also loaded with extra features. For example, you can use it as a clock radio by setting it to play CD's, tapes, or the radio at a certain time every day. You can even set it to record a radio program at a certain time; and the tape will automatically turn over at the end of side A and continue recording on side B. What's more, you can control everything with the remore -- including the cassette decks. It's hard to believe you can get a kickin' 5-disc system for this money!

Summary: One very happy camper
Review: I purchased the sc-ak27 as a gift for my wife, and from the moment it played our music, we were hooked. I read the reviews here, and still decided to go for it. Yes the Cd changer is slow, but worth it for the quality of sound that the system puts out. I would buy it again if the chance arose. Panasonic is quality. buy it, try it, you'll like it....

Summary: A very good choice for the money
Review: I've owned a 5-disc changer (cost $200 at the time) by Sony which certainly was faster changing from disc to disc in random or any other mode. However when you consider what you are getting for $230 -- a 5-disc changer, double cassette deck unit, AM/FM radio with amplifier and speakers AND remote, I really don't see what's to complain about. I mean some compromises have to made for the price you're getting this thing at!

That said, if you must have very fast (say less than 5 second) changes between selections on different discs, then this unit is not for you. But if you look at the balance of what it offers in terms of features and fairly decent sound quality, I think it's a "must buy." When I say "fairly decent" let me explain: This was my first foray into the world of mini or shelf stereo. Previously I have only owned 'real component' (Audible Illusions, PS Audio, SOTA, Vandersteen) stereo systems costing thousands of dollars more than this, but I just wanted something for the bedroom -- mainly for the radio. The sound really expensive systems reproduce can't really be fairly compared to the SC-AK27 (although to be accurate, mine is labeled "SA-AK27"). But having said that, I am not disappointed in the sound quality of it in the least. The speakers have a well-balanced sound, with good clarity and coherency throughout the bass, midrange and highs. The bass does have reasonable "punch" without flubber. It has a built-in timer so one can make recordings, for instance, from the radio when you're not home. That's quite useful for me. The tape deck is also of much higher quality than I suspected it would be. I have found the playback quality of commercial recorded tapes to be very, very good -- even without Dolby, which would have been nice. But this too would have increased the cost significantly, I believe. The remote also has a timer shutoff function.

The combination of features and controls this system offers is quite well thought out and functional. And the 15 second or so changes between discs really don't seem that long to me. The only thing I didn't like was the "light show" that the display makes, but fortunately it can be shut off. Some people will love it though, I'm sure.

If it stays trouble free for the next several years (or forever, hopefully), I suspect I'll be quite satisfied. It seems to me that Panasonic has done an excellent job. I don't know of any other one of this quality, with these features and low price. If there's one better for the money, I'd like to know about it!

Summary: panasonics are reliable
Review: My sister has an SC-AK20, and its almost 2 years old and hasn't had any problems, also my dad has a Technics (higher end panasonic) and he's had it for just as long and it runs almost constantly and hasn't had any problems. Both of them read the most scratched up cd's that no other brand of cd players will play.

Summary: Loud and Clear
Review: This CD player is great. Though this is a good buy, with its 3D Image Equalizer and clear, booming sound, and it will be heard down the block.

Summary: SIMPLY AWESOME
Review: This compact system delivers a sound that is definately not compact. The bass is unbelievable from this little thing and so crystal clear.

Summary: Great System...
Review: This system is amazing. I have never had a CD skip, and the sound is even better. I spent 3 days looking for good Mini systems and this by far has the best sound even out of the 400 dollar systems. Panasonic really out did itself with this product. Highly Reccomended!
