Summary: The Slam of the Summer
Review: Summerslam was a pretty great ppv. It started off with an alright match between Edge and Lance Storm for the IC title. Then the Dudleyz and Test beat a.p.a and spike in a match that should have been on sunday night heat. WCW Cruiserweight champ X-pac defeated WWF Lightheavy champ Tajiri to win both titles. The worst match was in a cage when Taker and Kane fought DDP and Kanyon to be unified tag champs. Chris Jericho beat Rhyno by submission and RVD battled JeffHardy in a ladder match for the hardcore title. Then in the best match which should of been the main-event Kurt Angle faced off against Steve Austin for the WWF Championship in the worst ending ever. In the main event the Rock defeated Booker T to win the WCW championship. Why were the a.pa. interfiring in the match?Oh well a pretty good Summerslam.

Summary: Great PPV, and the bodies hit the floor!
Review: Opening Match, Intercontinental Title: Lance Storm v Edge
Great opener. Edge wins the bout after an Edge-o-cution to capture the Intercontinental Championship. ****1/4

Six-Man Tag Team Match:
APA & Spike Dudley v Dudley Boyz & Test.
Shane McMahon interfered and hit Bradshaw with a chair, giving Test and the Dudleyz the victory. Not bad, not bad. **3/4

WCW Cruiserweight + WWF Light-Heavyweight Title Unification Match:
Tajiri v X-Pac
A good little cruiserweight match here, but not great. X-Pac won after interference from Albert. ***

Rhyno v Chris Jericho
Y2J won after he made Rhyno tap out to the Walls of Jericho. ***1/4

Ladder Match, Hardcore Title: Jeff Hardy v Rob Van Dam
What a match! Lots and lots of crazy bumps taken by both men. RVD wins the title after a hard-fought match. ****1/2

WCW Tag Title + WWF Tag Title Unification Match, Steel Cage:
Kane & Undertaker v DDP & Chris Kanyon
Oh dear... The only boring and slow match of the card. Kane & Taker won after a Last Ride on DDP. *

WWF Championship Match: Kurt Angle v Stone Cold
Fantastic match! This was absolutely unbelievable. Austin knew that he couldn't beat Angle, so he got himself disqualified to retain the title. Ah mann, if that match had a proper finish (and not the lame DQ) it would have been an easy ***** and probably match of the year. As it stands, ****3/4

WCW Championship Match: Booker T v The Rock
The Rock won the title after he nipped-up and hit a Rock Bottom to beat the Champion. Decent match to end the show. ***1/2

This is probably the second best PPV of the year after WrestleMania X-7, so you will not be dissapointed if you buy the DVD. The special features are also good - They include the 'Austin Appreciation Night' from the next night's RAW, two interviews, and a match from 'Sunday Night Heat'. Highly recommended.

Summary: One of my all time favorite PPV's
Review: When people think back on the year 2001 for the WWE, Wrestlemania 17 and No Way Out always come to mind. While those were the two best shows of the year, Summerslam was definately not far behind. With the acception of one match, the entire card was enjoyable. The IC Title match between Edge and Lance Storm was very technically sound and suspenseful. The Cruiserweight Title match between X-Pac and Tajiri was fast paced and filled with non-stop action. Rhyno vs Jericho was one of the best matches on the card. The highlight of the match was seeing Jericho jump off the top rope and get gored in mid-air by Rhyno. RVD and Jeff Hardy were amazing in their Hardcore title "Ladder Match". It is filled with tons of fast paced high flying action combined with some brutal bumps. The Rock vs Booker T for the WCW Title was very suspenseful and fun to watch. The match that stole the show was Kurt Angle vs Austin for the WWE title. It had to be one of the best matches I have ever seen. It went back and forth until the very end. The ending is highly controversial and upsetting, which is the only downfall of the match.

Overall, Summerslam 2001 is one of the best WWE shows I have ever seen in the ten years that I have been watching wrestling. Practically every match had something to offer and Kurt Angle vs Austin will go down as one of the greatest matches ever. I highly recommend picking this show up. You will not be dissapointed.

A solid 5 stars...

Summary: Great Sumerslam!
Review: Sumerslam 2001 was great, and it is just behind Summerslam 1998 as my favorite Summerslam. The best match on the tape is Stone Cold vs. Kurt Angle. I believe it is underated because of the bad ending. The rest of Summerslam 2001 is great too, as it also features a pretty good ladder match.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Probably the best of the WWF vs. Alliance era!
Review: In fact, this respectable PPV is the only thing that makes me call it an era rather than a valley in WWF history; that is, the WCW/ECW "teaming up" to "invade" the World Wrestling Federation, when everybody knew it was s**t and both wrestling companies had been out of business for months.
But I digress. Summerslam 2001 was, as usual, one of WWF's great PPVs, probably second only to Wrestlemania. (Especially that year.) The action was vivid and intense, and all the matches were watchable (Not always a feat the WWF could boast of, even back before they completely tanked.) But it was like everyone in the crowd forgot to drink their coffee that morning. It was just too damn quiet, and only the best superstars got good applause. Memo: WWE should be sure to always select venues where the fans will make the most possible noise.

I.C. TITLE: LANCE STORM(C) VS. EDGE
Pretty good for the opening bout. You'll gasp at how Edge comes back in the end. He probably should have beaten his brother Christian the next month at Unforgiven, too. 5/10.

SPIKE DUDLEY AND A.P.A. WITH MOLLY HOLLY VS. TEST AND DUDLEY BOYZ
Let's see...Test jumps to the Alliance and actually gives a good interview about it...the imaginative love story between Spike and Molly was out of gas...there's a table involved...guess who wins? It may have been predictable, but it was still pretty good, for a match involving Test. Chairshot by that weasel Shane McMahon is the best move in the bout. 5/10.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE VS. CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: TAJIRI VS. X-PAC
I'm glad the WWF got rid of X-Pac early the next year. He's a great competitor, but the guy is just getting old. Not that he shows it in this likeable match. It involves high flying and speed all the way. Screwy ending tainted it. 5/10.

CHRIS JERICHO VS. RHYNO
OMG, you would not believe the trash Jericho was talking to Stephanie McMahon in this period. Funny, but also really malicious. Steph gives Rhyno a shot at Y2J at Summerslam, since he's never lost to him before. Kick-@ss match. 7/10.

HARDCORE TITLE LADDER MATCH: JEFF HARDY(C) VS. ROB VAN DAM
This was one of the best matches I've ever seen either of these men involved in. Some of the bumps with the ladder were beyond brutal, and probably took a few years off of these guys' wrestling careers. Sets the standard for the rest of the night, ladies and gentleman. Worth the price of the whole thing. 8/10.

WCW TAG TITLES VS. WWF TAG TITLES IN A CAGE: DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE AND KANYON VS. UNDERTAKER AND KANE
I don't think the WWF has come up with much stuff that was sicker (or dumber) than DDP stalking 'Taker's wife, Sara. Undertaker has her name tatooed on his throat. You'd think that would persuade DDP to look for a date elsewhere. But no, he's got sick videos of her and this sick shrine on RAW...dear God. You know, if this were about actual competition, it wouldn't score so good, 'cause DDP and Kanyon get the crap beat out of them. But this is kind of about revenge on DDP, and Undertaker absolutely destroys him. Fun to watch, so I'll rate it accordingly. 6/10.

WWF TITLE: STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN(C) VS. KURT ANGLE
OK, get ready. Are you ready?
This match was un...F-ing...believable. It was emotional, brutal, and awe-inspiring. Angle gets seven German suplexes on Austin. Austin slams him mercilessly into the ringpost and announce table. Angle kicks out of the Stunner. Austin kicks out of the Angle Slam. Only the disappointing ending stopped it from being my match of the year, but even so, it's still the best match in the show. The fact remains: Steve Austin can not beat Kurt Angle, especially not for the WWF Title, and that would be proven a month later anyway. But what a match!! Even paying the WWF's ridiculous PPV price, you still would've gotten your money's worth. 9/10.

WCW TITLE: BOOKER T (WITH SHANE MCMAHON) VS. THE ROCK
As far as gut-wrenching drama and physical intensity went, Angle-Austin was Summerslam's winner. But as far as a buildup between two men, both claiming they are the most electrifying men in sports-entertainment, goes, this match is king. You get the feeling these two could have put on a better match than they did, but at least Shane gets mauled by the A.P.A. (sweet revenge!), and Rock's sensational return (he was out since Wrestlemania in early spring) makes up for it, capturing the crowd's adulation yet again. 7/10.
And Summerslam, too, captures the crowd's adulation. Always a premier event, the silly Alliance story was not enough to sully SS when you got right down to the wrestling. At least you get to see Jim Ross yell at Paul Heyman.

Summary: An excellent ppv...a lousy main-event
Review: The show starts off with the IC title on the line. With help from Christian, Edge defeats Lance Storm to win the gold. Not a bad match...leads into the Edge/Christian feud nicely. The Dudley Boyz and Test defeat APA and Spike Deudley in a surprisingly good 6-man tag-team match. Shane McMahon's interference and Spike Dudley going through a table are high points in this contest. In a Cruiserweight-Light Heavyweight Championship-for-Championship match, X-Pac defeats Tajiri to leave with both belts. A pretty ordinary match, but not bad seeing that the cruiserweight division was really just being utilized at ppv. Rhyno and Chris Jericho was an entertaining rivalry and the match was decent as well. Stephanie McMahon's involvement added fuel to her feud with Y2J. Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam didn't top their Hardcore Title match from Invasion, but they did put on a show in the First-Ever Hardcore Ladder match. Undertaker and Kane vs. DDP and Kanyon was a dull steel cage match with both companies tag-titles on the line. It was really just a means of ending the long-running DDP/Taker feud.
The match of the night and the match that should have been the main-event was for the WWF Championship and it pitted the challenger Kurt Angle against Steve Austin. This was a five star classic. From chair shots to ankle locks to knocked out referees, this match had it all and was second to Austin-Rock at X7 as match of the year in my eyes. The main event was Rock and Booker T for the WCW title. A run of the mill match, but a good ending and a good way of enhancing the WWF/Alliance feud.
