Summary: Excellent resque of preamerican lifestyle
Review: Excellent and interesting film which resque the pre-american values versus the west civilization's. We can realize that people of this continent was not savage as said during long years. Similar analysis to "The Mission".

Summary: Four hours good, three hours bad
Review: That having been said, a wonderful, engaging film. One technical note: the laser version, although in widescreen, does not quite convey the breath of image presented in the theatrical aspect ration of the DVD.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I wanted to see the four hour version on DVD
Review: I loved Dances With Wolves in both it's theatrical form, and the home video special edition which included footage originally cut by Costner for time. The four hour special edition showed scenes which detailed some relationships betweeen characters that to me made the movie even better. I was disappointed to say the least when I learned that the dvd did not contain this footage.

Summary: Dances with Wolves is a Gem
Review: This is an exceptionally well done DVD. The 2.35:1 aspect ratio and THX mastering make for a stunningly clear image - and their are a lot of images in this movie. Is it my imagination or are all the THX mastered DVDs more pristine, i.e., the image more crystal clear the sound impeccable in its clarity. I would dearly like to hear what others think about this.

The 6 channel (I hate that 5.1 channel designation as there is no such thing as .1 of an audio channel) Dolby Digital sound track is flawless.

The movie itself is beautifully done from the first image to the last lingering note of John Barry's score. Kudos to Kevin Costner, Jim Wilson and all the actors involved.

This is a DVD to use to show that: 1) There are still wonderful movies still being made. 2) To show off your system to the uninitiated - move to track 13 the Buffalo Hunt.

Note: The Lokota language used in the movie falls with great euphony on the ear - its a very lovely language.

Summary: Some much Sound, It Comes Packed with Two Discs
Review: Dances with Wolves is a great movie and shows the other side of United State's occupation of the new land. The DTS version of this movie is ten times better than the 5.1 version. There is no sound compression, if the sounds there, its there. Be sure to pick this one up if you have DTS

Summary: Would've been 5-star if this was the extended version!
Review: I was quite disappointed when I realised that this DVD wasn't the full length version. But the sound and picture quality made up for it. If you can still find the boxed set for "Dances", get it. If not, I guess you just have to settle for this DVD.

Summary: This is a region 0 (multi region) DVD, not region 1
Review: This DVD is *not* a region 1 DVD.

At least it plays in all region settings on my DV-505, and I see no traces of a specific region on the case.

Summary: Spectacular!!! Viva DTS
Review: DTS was worth the wait in this DVD...had to clean up the buffalo chips it seemed so real. Don't forget to turn the dts bitstream to "on" on your decoder or you won't hear a thing!!!! Loved it!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: excellent sound track and musical score.
Review: This DTS was superior to any other DVD that I have seen so far. The sound is spectacular. The video is stunning. Extremely clear. The musical score was superb. A tremendous job in encoding it for DTS!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Superb Film; Superb Disc
Review: Kevin Costner may have had several bombs since he made Dances With Wolves, but that shouldn't detract from his reputation for producing/directing/acting in this magnificent film. Watching it on DVD for the first time was a revelation. My videotape version was no comparison. Every nuance and detail is crystal clear, and the soundtrack almost overwhelms the senses. An additional bonus - and a wonderful bonus it is - is the commentary track by Costner and his co-producer Jim Wilson. Listening to their reminiscences and comments about the making of Dances With Wolves opened a whole new appreciation for this great film. This is an absolutely MUST HAVE for any video buffs DVD library.
