Review: Beware of this product, as the DVD player will stop working whenever you least expect it. Stay away from Magavox for quality products!

Review: I bought this product for my mother last Christmas (2003) and she's never had a problem with it. I set it up, works perfectly, sounds good, both DVD and VCR look good. The speakers have long cables, everything was very easy to connect. My mother has used it at least twice a week for almost a year now and she says it's still going strong. I'm sorry to the other folks that had so much trouble with theirs, but not ALL of these machines are faulty.

Summary: Excellent Value
Review: I just purchased MRD500VR system within the last week. I am very impressed with the quality and performance for a system in this price range. Our family room is 15' wide x 20'long and the system fills the room with plenty of sound when playing DVD's or CD's. I've played about 6 different DVD's in the player and have not had any issues, including DVD's that did not play on my previous system. The VHS player operates very smooth and quiet. The remote control is somewhat complicated but what can you expect with a system with so many components and features. Overall I am very impressed - excellent value!

Summary: Don't get this one, you'll regret it!!!
Review: I purchased this system from Target for Christmas. Everything worked except for the suround sound when it was in DVD mode. I called Magnavox about the problem, and their solution was to route the DVD signal through the VCR and use it in VCR mode. Well, that takes care of the sound, but viewing the DVD through the VCR diminishes the video quality and doesn't allow you to use the DVD functions on the remote! I took it back to the store and got my money back. I spent a little bit more money and got a fantastic Sony system instead. I'm disappointed with Magnavox on this one. I usually buy Magnavox products, but not after this.

Review: I thought this combo would be a great deal because of the price, the ease of use, etc, but it isn't because it doesn't work. My problem was the DVD player decided to freeze at random points on all my DVDs - even brand new ones. I'm returning it today.

Summary: No Problems here
Review: I've had this system for a year now and use the DVD/CD on a daily basis and all weekends. Sound is great, Video and DVD work very well. Easy to connect. Enjoyed it so much I replaced my television with a Magnavox TV. For an apartment system you can't beat the price nor the clarity.

Summary: Not bad ... considering it doesn't WORK!
Review: Just bought this today at Target (1/7/2003). Going to return it tomorrow. It promoises a nice all in one but like several of the other posters, something doesn't work on it. In my case, the VCR. I bought this on a spur of the moment without doing any research. Got home, set it up, went to Amazon to see the reviews, ... wish I hadn't bought it. It sounds good enough, though. And if everything worked well, I might have kept it longer. But with the on-line reviews here and it not working out of the book, I'll have owned it for less than 24 hours. *sigh* My recommendation is to NOT buy this product.

Summary: Beware! DVD player is faulty on some units!
Review: This is a combo DVD/VCR unit and if it weren't for the DVD player that doesn't work i'd give it four stars. Apparently the DVD player has software issues and Magnavox/Phillips is aware of them but continues to sell the product. The manufacturer has a one year exchange warranty but then you have to deal with shipping the thing across the country and at your own cost by the way. Considering how heavy it is you may be better off buying a different model from a manufacturer who cares about quality control and customer satisfaction. But if you want to take your chances i loved the A/V inputs in the front and the sound is pretty good.
