Summary: eh, mostly does what I ask
Review: For playing DVDs, and vcr tapes, it mostly does what I ask.
Biggest gripe is no manual tracking. It is supposed to be automatic, but several tapes I have from other vcrs get sqiggly to the point of being unwatchable.

Setting up the maching to record is not intuitive IMO. You need to steer around with the play, stop, rew buttons, even though there are arrow buttons elsewhere on the remote. Also you cannot enter dates and times with the number buttons, you must steer around with the play, ff, rew, and stop buttons--very odd in my book. Also you need to physically hit a button on the machine to finalize the timed record process. Why??

The remote seems very dead. You really have to point at the unit to get it to work.

So far it continues to work, after 6 months. Picture quality meets my standards, though I don't ask for much.

So I give it an eh. I'm sure you can find better, but for the most part, it does what I ask it to do.

Summary: Awful design
Review: How do I hate this product? Let me count the ways. The technical design suggests that the DVD group and the VCR group took two different products and stuck them together without ever consulting each other. Although the playback quality appears fine, doing even the most mundane task requires a ridiculous amount of effort. I am looking for an excuse to sell this thing on e-bay.
- You can't record one show while watching another. This is supposed to be a prime feature of any VCR.
- You can't actually program the VCR without the remote control.
- You have to shut down the unit if you want to record anything later. It's super annoying.
- In order to program the menu, you have to use the play, stop, rewind, etc. buttons on the remote control even though there are cursor keys on it. The cursor keys only work in DVD mode. How stupid.
- The DVD and VCR features are completely separate, and several features that should be common (like watching TV or setting the time) can only be done in VCR mode.
- You can't actually pause the DVD. Once it's paused, you will have to go back to the main menu to play the movie.
I wish I had bought any other brand.

Summary: Good all around system
Review: I purchased this system before doing a lot of investigation...luckily, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed. I'm no expert on the technical aspects, but the vhs and dvd players work just fine for me. This is a very inexpensive system to purchase, however, the quality is top notch...and offers all the bells and whistles of a more expensive system. Extremely easy to install. The remote is not complicated...a 10 year old could operate it. And, another reviewer for this model is incorrect, you can adjust the tracking on vhs tapes...simply read the manual...it's very easy. The only draw back is the inability to record on vhs from dvd. That would be a great feature. Overall, I am very satisfied...and it looks nice too.

Summary: not great, wife hates it, had to buy a new one
Review: I've had this DVD/VCR for several months. The display quality of DVDs and VHS is good. There are design deficiences that are annoying: must press a button on the unit (not remote) in order to activate VCR timer recordings, cannot stop a timed recording without pressing this same button, cannot do a one-touch timed recording with the remote, audio gets out of sync with about 50% of DVDs played (pause or stop/restart to resync).

Summary: A review of the similar Sylvania DVC850C
Review: This is a review of the Sylvania DVC850C which appears to be identical in function to the DVC800C.

A nice looking machine which seems to be a good combination of products especically for families renting tapes and DVDs for kids.

We ending up returning our first unit after about three weeks. It developed a problem playing old and some rented videos which got progressively worse.

We've had the replacement for about a month and altough it a problem playing a Disney tape from our public library it has done fine with our older tapes.

There is no tracking adjustment which it definately needs. This has meant that some tapes look bad and some just don't work at all. We've seen a Macrovision protected Disney tape that doesn't play at all. For those tapes we need to use an older VCR.

Has a clock but no autoset feature. Does have short power outage protection of the clock setting. It also has a real time clock counter which is needed to find your way thru a tape with multiple shows on it. The clock (and counter) does not display on the front of the unit so you need the remote control to display it on the screen.

The display on the front of the unit is only for the DVD functions and provides no information for VCR or clock operations.

Can't copy DVD to VCR if that matters to you.

The remote is a bit complex at first but once you get the hang of it seems to do everything well. There is no tracking control (it's suppose to be automatic) which is really needed.

It has very handy front and rear connections for additional video inputs.

We use this machine about four hours a day, mostly as a VCR. Nice machine for kid use except for the VCR tracking problems. I've seen the same machine under a different major brand name.

Summary: JUNK
Review: This product is a piece of JUNK!!! Mine is approx 6 months old, and will no longer record (vhs) for longer than 45min. According to a service tech I know, there is a chip that overheats, and when it does, causes about 6-9 inches of tape to get stuck in the vcr. BUYER BEWARE- 1 year parts warranty, but only 90 days labor. They will give me a new chip - but I would need to PAY their service center to fix their defective product. No Thanks- and I'll buy another brand with extended replacement type warranty.

Summary: Same as Emerson EWD2202, Horrible Remote
Review: This unit is the same as the Emerson EWD2202 except for some minor cosmetic changes for obvious reasons. I also believe that this unit and the Emerson unit are actually manufactured by the Funai corporation.

The remote control feels very cheap and has to be pointed directly at the unit to function. Also, the remote is overly large and is very uncomfortable to hold and operate as the buttons are small and placed in odd locations.

Overall the unit itself seems to operate well and has played both DVD's and VHS tapes without difficulty. The unit also plays audio CD's and MP3 files well and even plays MP3 files located in sub-folders.

Summary: Awful design
Review: You get an excellent DVD/ VHS combo for a great price. It is possible to record from DVD to VHS if you have a AV cable.
