Summary: simply empire of comedy!!!
Review: this all in the family is going on strong after the first golden first season that was great as well.this kind of comedy is not made these days unfortunatly.maybe because carroll oconnor(archie bunker) died 2& a half months before the twin buildings disaster.anyway,,,the humor there is on every thing from archie's view about politics, racism, nations, the bible, sports, weman, philosophy and practically any subject that archie get involved with ,,,his dreamy theories do not fit reality but in what a great humor acting:)this serial is worth the everest mountain weight in gold.i promise you you will enjoy and believe me that is an understatement!!!

Summary: Why is "The Man in the Street" skipping?
Review: This has been an awesome ride, watching these classic episodes night after night without commercials! Much funnier than I expected after all these years.

But, the quality of the DVD discs sure could have been better. For some reason I can't seem to get through the episode entitled "The Man in the Street" without the picture freezing. Then it dumps me back to the main menu. UGH!
There are no chapter breaks on these DVD's "inside" of an episode, so it looks like I am stuck with a bum disc and no chance of seeing that specific episode in it's entirety.

And why can't we have SOME extras?

I've got The Mary Tyler Moore Show; Season One (which sad to say has been the only season released so far on DVD)and they did a great job with extras.

I can't understand why there are no extras on these DVD's?

Ther than that ... four stars. And even knowing about these flaws in advance I still would be buying set after set of these DVD's.

Should've been a five star set though.

Summary: The best season of the best sit com of all time
Review: What a joy it is to have All in the Family, each episode a classic, showcased on DVD. While the concept of the show is really pretty simple, it represented both then and now a dramatically bold new vision of situational comedy. Honesty is the watchword of All in the Family, and I'm sure that many people could never have imagined that Archie Bunker, a working-class, opinionated, prejudiced, gruff common man who spewed the funniest venom ever witnessed would become both a television and a cultural icon. The rest of the family is just as memorable: Edith the good-hearted dingbat, Mike the liberal, socialist Meathead of a son-in-law, and Archie's 'little goil' Gloria, very much both her husband's wife and her father's daughter. In 1972, no one dared tackle the kinds of issues the Bunkers took on every week, turning controversy on its head while exhibiting great truths laced with biting satirical humor. Norman Lear deserves more credit than I can give him for creating what is, in my opinion, the best sit com of all time.

Season Two is arguably the show's best season, capturing seven Emmy awards, including most outstanding comedy series, best actor in a comedy, best actress in a comedy, and best supporting actress in a comedy (tie), as well as two Golden Globe awards for best actress in a comedy and best comedy series. Looking back on everything that happened in this second season, I can only say it was indeed quite a year. An incomplete catalogue of significant events includes the following: Gloria poses nude, Archie's cousin dies upstairs, the Bunkers are robbed ' sort of, Archie lands up in jail as a protestor, Archie is aghast to find out he is not eligible to vote, the Bunkers almost move to California, Archie is interviewed for a segment on the CBS Evening News, and Archie finds himself under investigation by the FBI. At the same time, a stressed-out Mike finds himself unable to perform his husbandly duty, Edith goes through the change (and drags Archie along for the ride), and one of Mike's old girlfriends shows up with 'Mike's son' out of the blue. Then there are two showdowns between heavyweights Archie and Maude, the second of the two serving as the de facto pilot episode for the new Maude spin-off. Of the 24 episodes, though, two stand out in particular. Christmas Day at the Bunkers shows a very human side of Archie that comes through in a very touching way, as he tries to cover up for the fact that a mistake he made at work resulted in his getting no Christmas bonus. Then there is the ultimate classic episode wherein the one and only Sammy Davis, Jr. comes calling at the Bunker home. This episode stands as one of the best and funniest half-hours in the history of television, and few people will ever forget 'the kiss.' It gets my vote for the most classic television moment of all time.

I especially delight in being able to enjoy All in the Family now because as a child this was the one television show I was not allowed to watch. It would be nice to have some sorts of special features included with this DVD release, but what really matters is that we have the shows themselves, complete and uncut and just as hilarious and educational now as they were back in 1972.

Summary: One of the best shows ever! Keep releasing it on DVD!
Review: Yes, this is one of the funniest and most well-written shows ever to come along in TV history. Thank goodness Columbia had the good taste to release seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. Now if they will only keep up the good work. According to tvshowsondvd.com, season 3 IS being released in July. So us fans can look forward to that. Everyone snap it up when it comes out! I feel confident that Columbia will continue with the rest of the seasons, along maybe not very timely. If they don't, we must launch a major letter writing campaign to them and demand otherwise. Let your voices be heard.
Long live the Bunkers and the Stivics!
