Summary: They don't get any better!!!!
Review: Dawn French is in top form as the the first female Vicar seen in the small parish of Dibley. French leads a sterling cast that plays up the backward folks of the parish with glee. This series sets out to just make you laugh and does a fine job of it. If you're a lover of fine British comedy then this set is for you.
Dawn French is, of course, part of the French and Saunders team that created not only their own riotous series but also Absolutely Fabulous led by her partner in comedy Jennifer Saunders. Also of note, is the series Girls on Top featuring French, Saunders and Tracy Ullman in one of their first sitcoms.

Summary: Yes, Vicars can be funny!
Review: Ever since I caught an episode of "The Vivar of Dibley" on PBS, I got hooked! It's hilarious and great fun to watch, and even much better to own!! The only regret that I have is that the series is no longer on the air.
I have found that I can watch these DVD's over and over, and always find myself roaring with laughter!
Get this set! You won't regret it!

Summary: We can't even get this in our own country!
Review: I agree wholeheartedly with the remarks made by Kimberley earlier. We "Brits" can only look on in envy when we find it almost impossible to buy DVDs or videos of our own homemade TV shows and yet American consumers can easily buy them. Like Kimberley, I too have only the first series of Dibley on DVD. I have had to record the later episodes from the TV on my DVD recorder. The problem is not so much with Amazon, but with the producers and the distributors of the product. And it doesn't just end with Dibley.
The lack of availability of British sitcoms in our own country is all the more astounding when we find our video stores stocking shelf-loads of "Friends" - even series that haven't even been shown on UK screens yet!

Why the 5 stars? I have seen all of Dibley, and agree the whole series is superb. Now...if only the BBC or Universal (who have the distrubution rights here) can come up with the goods

Summary: Great but not perfect - worth the watching though
Review: I also think the 5-star reviews here are a bit over the top in terms of praise. They seem to come from the Vicar of Dibley press package. Having said that I do believe it is a great series that is certainly worth watching and was very funny. The characters are charming, endearing and more than human in their failings.

However, on the other side, the colon jokes do wear a bit thin, though I loved the actor who plays Owen. Also, by the time you watch all 16 episodes, you will likely find Vicar Geraldine a bit pathetic in her desire to believe that some movie, television or otherwise gorgeous guy is just dying to be with her. I thought she was more mature than that, and it is in significant contrast to the rest of her personality. Secondly, she seems overconcerned with gaining attention all the time. I won't give away the details on that statement because I don't want to give away the plots.

Overall though, I laughed really hard while watching 90% of the episodes and the supporting cast is fantastic! I am keeping this in my DVD library to loan to friends who need a good laugh.

Summary: Great British Comedy!
Review: I first saw Vicar of Dibley back in the days when they first aired it on PBS. I absolutely loved it then and when I saw years later that the complete series was on DVD, I decided to snatch it up. My taste in comedy has changed a little since I first saw this, but it still made me laugh. There were some parts that seemed to drag on, but it was soon over with another hilarious scene. I still love the show, and I think any fan of Brit coms will enjoy this. Others may want to try renting from an online dvd rental company before they invest in it.

Summary: THE BEST BRITISH COMEDY EVER!!!
Review: I live in the UK and enjoy our comedys very much; greats such as Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, and Absoulutely Fabulous... However The Vicar Of Dibley is one of the best we have... Unfortunately for me America is the only country at the moment to have series 2 and 3 on dvd, so all i can say is that you will really enjoy the whole collection, i've seen them all and they are great...

Summary: Laugh, Laugh, I Thought I'd Die
Review: I was assured as a child that god must have a sense of humor, look at the platypus. Now I am totally convinced that god does or else we wouldn't have all the hilarity of the Vicar of Dibley in one set of DVD's.

I was introduced to the Vicar by a friend who brought her set of VHS tapes into the office one week end. We spent the entire afternoon laughing out loud at the eccentrics of Dibley.

Now I own all of the episodes as well as some nice extras and when I feel a little down Dawn French and rest of the cast help cheer me up.

Summary: Could only wish Geraldine had been my Vicar...
Review: I was so excited to see that the entire collection of Vicar of Dibley is slated for DVD. If you have not seen this Brit sitcom, you must. It is hilarious and at times quite moving. And there is always the joke at the end, which in the words of Owen Newitt "Wait for it, wait for it", is always an good closer for a grand show.

So much about this series is fantastic. The cast is superlative starting with the Dawn French as Geraldine Granger. She presides over a parish board which is always on the verge of anarchy, yet often under the thumb of the local landowner, David Horton. Farmer Owen Newitt (who drops conversation stoppers about his bowels and delivering livestock), Jim ("No, No, No, No,- YES"), Leticia Cropley (bon vivant cook who raids the medicine cabinet for missing ingredients), Hugo Horton (thick son of David), pedantic Frank and the inimitable verger Alice (even thicker than Hugo) make up the parish board with gusto and great humor.

Favorite episodes inclue the Christmas dinner in which Geraldine is forced to eat 4 meals, the church fete with Reg Dwight making a special appearance, the Brain of Dibley, and the Ballet episode. Watch and enjoy the antics of Dibley and its inahbitanta, a little out of step from the real world.

Summary: one sandwich shy of a picnic
Review: Like the viewer from Ames, IA, I have yet to buy this set but have to comment on ttyle from New York. Could it be that they're not a true brit-com fan? I'm American married to a Brit, I have had the extreme good fortune and pleasure of seeing the best the Brits have to offer (husband included!!!).
Unfortunately, with the exception of tv classics like "All in the Family", "Sanford and Son" and the like (both were Brit-com take-offs) we have yet to watch an American program worthy of those the Brits produce. Sadly most are "reality based" shows that depict subjects like lust and greed in a glorified, exaggerated state - I'd rather see the silliness, quirkiness and eccentricities of the citizens of Dibley.
Investing in a multi-regional players (dvd and vhs) was a requirement for us as unfortunately most of the British shows and documentaries are not always available to view even on PBS and as much as we enjoy "Are You Being Served", "As Time Goes By", etc. there are so many more to be enjoyed; especially at leisure and when you need a really good laugh. "Only Fools and Horses" (recently released on NTSC format) and "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" are some of our faves.
The cast is superb and especially love Leticia who is definitely one sandwich shy of a picnic...
