Review: Just not that funny. I was really disappointed. Never saw the show on HBO, had great hype. Couldn't even finish watching it.

Summary: Not bad
Review: This is a very Monty Python inspired style of sketch comedy where the sketches and monologues all sort of bleed together in one way or another. Sometimes the show will take the watcher from monologue, to skit, to a commercial parody, to song and dance, and then back to a monologue or some other weird avenue. I have to say that I like their fresh approach to comedy but I'll also have to add that their brand of comedy doesn't always work for me and I thought at some points the supporting talent outside of Bob and David were a little weak at points. On this particular dvd set I really enjoyed the musical, the music video, the mom and pop porn shop, and the episode where David tries to pee on the flag. I also thought the best thing on the dvd was in the extras and it was some weird episode about drugs. Really good stuff. Not on the same level as Kids in The Hall or The State but a good approach none the less.

Summary: Good media to make life long references to...
Review: It took me a few weeks after watching the original Mr. Show (when it was actually on HBO) to refer to the various skits on there and laugh. It just grows on ya. It got to the point where a was totally out of control laughing after about the 7th time watching some of the skits. One has to kind of slide into the style of these guys. They're not politically correct and may offend someone...somewhere....I guess. It's worth watching though.

Summary: Mr. Show? Mr. So-So...
Review: I was recommended Mr. Show by many, many people. I'm a fervent Upright Citizens Brigade, Kids in the Hall, the State fan, et al., and find David and Bob pretty funny in their outside endeavors. So maybe I had high expectations that I would like Mr. Show as much as those favorites. So I went out and I bought the Season One and Two DVD having never watched the show.

While I laughed at all the "musicals" in Mr. Show for prolonged periods of time, my sister and I came to the verdict that it's a really unevenly funny show. I found the humor way too self-indulgent ("Look at us! We're tongue in cheek! We're on HBO!") and the writing not as good as other comedy shows. People have told me it's an "aquired taste," and, to a certain point, I think that most sketch comedy is. But I found the taste a just little too pompus with too little consistency to back it up.

But then, so many people disagree with me, so that's probably just my opinion. I find the broad majority of people with my taste to love Mr. Show, while I only find it to be okay. My recommendation isn't to buy the DVD or not to buy the DVD, but just to watch it before you buy it so you know if it's the sort of humor that you want to aquire over time. Because now I feel like I'm out 35 bucks that I could have spent on the new Kids in the Hall DVD.

Summary: Thank goodness for HBO
Review: This is the kind of stuff that renews your faith in the fact that there are people are there capable of making great television. Laugh-out-loud funny for hours and hours!

Summary: Mr Show is by far one of the best HBO programs around.
Review: I am still angry the show was not able to continue to grow, but this DVD will hopefully indicate to the HBO execs that maybe people actually DID like the damn show.

Summary: Kids in the Hall/Monty Python it is not
Review: The first season of Mr. Show is absolutely painful to watch. Without any of the brilliance but in the style of Monty Python, poorly drawn sketches are fumbled through in a manner reminiscent of a college theater production. The ideas are not terrible, but the execution is abominable and the writing is half-baked.

The second season is far superior to the first, but remains just lukewarm.
