Summary: Slightly less entertaining than root canal surgery
Review: Anyone rating this movie more than one star needs to have their head examined. Mario Puzo is turning over in his grave, having his name associated with this "movie". There is a good possibility that the screenplay was written by the 4-year-old autistic girl Bethany. The terms "plot", "transition" and "cohesion" are clearly not in the writer's vocabulary. 127 minutes of my life that I will never be able to get back.

Summary: Not a bad follow-up
Review: First let me say to the guy that said Mario must have turned in his grave, he was alive and involved with this production when it was filmed. You should research before making a fool commment and then following it by a stab at mentally handicapped people, you must be quite the human being!

Anyway, like was said this picks up where "The Last Don" left off. Not bad for Television and if you are a fan of Mob-style movies, this is a great endcap to the Mario Puzo legacy. I always thought Joe Mantenga stole the show in "The Last Don" and it's great to have him reprise his role again although the focus is mainly on the younger generation. This may not be "The Sopranos" but very entertaining none the less.

Summary: This DVD is excellent
Review: For those who have seen The Last Don or the Godfather they will not be disapointed with his latest creation The Last Don 2 it has all the earmarking's of a Mario Puzo story with great performances by Jason Gedrick and Kristie Alley. The movie centers around the Clericuzio family and in this sequel to the Last Don Cross Jason Gedrick's character is brought back this time to be the driving force behind the family and It's saviour. The Last Don 2 as in the first movie has some interesting parallels to Hollywood and Mob life suggesting that they are similar worlds. Although I strongly reccomend this movie I believe to fully enjoy it you must see the first of this series The Last Don. And if your A Mario Puzo fan you wont be sorry for watching this Movie.

Summary: DONS FOREVER
Review: I gave Part I of this miniseries two stars, and Part II isn't that much worse; maybe half as good. They had a great chance at the end of Part I which they didn't cash in on. Joe Mantagna's daughter was all set up to take over everything and become THE FIRST DONNA. That's what I hoped would happen in Part II. No such luck. The daughter becomes a "straight" lawyer who learns to live with the idea that her brother is an assassin. It's her brother who becomes the "last don," but there's very little in the story to suggest why. He's a killer but not particularly ruthless. He's a VERY slow thinker (or else an actor who needs a lot of time to figure out how to move his facial muscles). I wondered about how they could feature Mantagna in Part II when he was killed off in Part I. This turned out to be, for me, the greatest mystery in the miniseries! But they solved it in a humdrum manner--Mantagna comes back in "dream sequences"! Hot ziggedy, what a conception! If you're looking to buy a DVD to watch this miniseries, here's a tip for you. Get the first one. It's about three times as long (running time) as the second one. And since it's twice as good, you'll get your two-star's money worth on THE LAST DON, PART I. Of course, if after you see it you disagree with everything I said about that movie in my review of it, then go ahead and get PART II. Now, isn't that an offer you can't refuse?

Summary: Fine entertainment--not quite up to Part 1
Review: I really enjoyed "The Last Don" (Part 1). Although it wasn't quite the masterpiece that "The Godfather" was, I thought it was more true-to-life than the great classic. "The Last Don" saga deals with the modern mafia, and the efforts of the head of the Clericuzio family to extricate his family from crime, and enter the legitimate world with his empire's wealth intact.

Part 2 picks up exactly where Part 1 ends. In my opinion Part 2 is quite watchable, and constitutes good entertainment. It is not quite up to Part 1. Certain segments of it seem over-acted and perhaps overly simplistic--it lacked the twists and surprises that made Part 1 such a delight. Most of the time I felt that I knew exactly where Part 2 was taking us.

Notwithstanding my criticisms, this is a very entertaining sequel. Its portrayal of Hollywood is very funny, and there are certain components of the film that I frankly am surprised did not get someone sued. Spoiler omitted here, but if you watch Part 2 you will most surely know exactly what I mean.

I enjoyed it.

Summary: Good, although not as good as the first one.
Review: Jason Gedrick is great. He does a good job of being a good-Bad guy. He does what he does without wanting to do it. I like the loyalty of Liavasi(msp). If you bought the first one, buy this one to complete the set.
