Summary: forget the plasma or lcd
Review: After careful and I mean a year of careful web searches on info on large widescreen t.v's in crt, plasma and lcd we took the plunge and with our hard earned dollars purchased a 42H83 the latest model offered by toshiba. I believe we made the correct choice. Sure its not 6 inches deep like plasma but 18 inches is pretty slim. The picture quality after our adjustments is as good or better than plasma or lcd. Watching standard broadcasts takes getting used to on a widescreen but no big deal. We have it hooked up to a DTS 5.1 receiver and a progressive scan DVD and watching widescreen movies is awesome.

Summary: Toshiba 42H82 is a wonderful set!
Review: I bought the Toshiba 42H82 about 2 months ago. It has an outstanding picture and the sound quality is just terrific. I shopped around both in local stores, and on the internet, and researched a great deal before buying. With Toshiba's reputation for quality and a strong warranty backing-- this was the set for me. My friends have bragged on the quality of the picture and I would encourage anyone looking for a projection TV in this size range to consider this product. I LOVE MINE!

Summary: Awsome TV!
Review: I got this tv recently. I must say I am blown away. the picture quality is superb. The sound is great! I love this tv. The tv comes with a suround sound feature that envelopes you. There are times I have gone to my door because I thought someone was knocking at it. But then I realize that it was just the tv. That is hw great the sound is. The sound on this tv is better than that of most surround sound systems. The picture quality is superb as I said before. The lines are clear and crisp. I love it. I love playing my video games in high definition widescreen. nothing makes me happier. I must say I am also pleased with the number of inputs this tv has. 2 S-Video, 2 Component Video, and all the analog you would need. Least just say I love not javing to go behind this tv to hook anything up. I have a DVD, 3 video game consoles, a vcr, and my cable all hooked up at once. It is a beatiful thing! I also want to mation one last thing before I end my praise to the tv. The menus are simple and easy to figure out. There are enough settings to make any control freak happy. And they are easy for anyone to figure out. Well to say the least this tv is the perfect tv. Unless you want a bigger one that is. But 42 inches is big enough for me. I lvoe this tv and anyone who buys it will certiantly get everything they want and more!

Summary: Great RPTV-HDTV even with cable
Review: I have the newer HDX series of this TV and it's fabulous. Toshiba's CableclearDNR manipulations make standard wired cable (coax input used for best picture) tv signal look better than I thought possible, and the cable HD channels I get over cable are clear and crisp like looking out the window. All content including std. wired cable, std. wired satellite dish VHS, and Std DVD are up converted to 540p automatically, resulting in an immediate picture improvement over regular Tv's. Some tweaking of the settings for the different content sources is necessary to make each look its best but after you get the hang of the controls, it's great.

Summary: The best thing I own
Review: I purchased this TV back in August after about a month of research. I am very careful when making large purchases so I like to read up quite a bit on the products available. After reading reviews from professionals and consumers I had decided on the Toshiba 41H81.I could not be happier with this set. When I first got the TV I was a little disappointed with the picture. I decided to let it go for a while and after the 100 hour recommended break in period the picture was a million times better. I also had to change the settings on the picture quite a bit. When you look at TV's in the store they will tend to change the settings of the higher priced TVs to the optimum settings so they can talk you into spending more. With some quick adjustments (I highly recommend buying the Avia guide to home theater. It is a must have for setting up your home theater and adjusting the picture on your TV) the picture on this TV was amazing. As for the features... I love watching TV in widescreen. I was initially worried that the picture would look distorted but after about a day you really don't notice it. Another thing I enjoy is that instead of picture in picture this TV has a feature where you can split the TV screen in half. I can watch and listen to the TV while my friends can play video games on the other half of the TV. I definitely like that feature. As for the sound, I can not really comment on that. I listen to everything through my surround speakers. I have the TV sound turned off. I have heard reports of a light "hissing" sound but the few times I turn up my TV's volume I do not hear it. All in all I could not be happier with this television. Like my title says, It is the best thing I own (sorry car).

Summary: New Owner
Review: I've only owned this home theater spectacle for about 3 days but I am in love. The controls are a heck of a lot easier than stated in previous reviews and when coupled with the right surround sound system and receiver gives the feeling of a professional movie experience. Congrats Toshiba and thanks

Summary: GreatSet-if-2002 Model
Review: Just purchased the Toshiba 42H82 and couldn't be happier. The picture is great, but if you buy online be sure you're aware that only the newly released 2002 models will be capable of receiving the DVI upgrade as this will be the very best technology before long.

According to Toshiba's website, "DVI is an uncompressed (base band) digital video connection. It provides a secure digital interface for connecting a Digital Set-Top Box to an HD Compatible TV. It is not made to replace IEEE1394, which can still be used to connect the Digital Set-Top Box to a Digital Recording Device. 2002 H82 Wide Screen PTV models can be upgraded to an optional jack pack that includes a DVI input with HDCP for a true uncompressed digital video connection.

This is only to prepare for the future when all major network HDTV broadcasts will supposedly require the DIV connection so they can protect their copyrights easier.

All in all we're thrilled with the stunning picture and easy to use menus-a true deal at this price level.

Summary: Major Problems
Review: The Toshiba worked well for a couple of weeks. At first, I was unable to program some of the channel names in. The unit turned off once or twice by itself. Then, one night, the picture became all distorted, with white squiggly lines going everywhere. The sound became filled with static and horrible loud snapping sounds.
I called one of the key service centers listed on the Toshiba web sight. They took a week to come out to repair it. When the got here they said it had to go to the shop. They told me they would pick it up in a week. I have no idea how long it will take to repair it.
