Description:

When size means everything, you can't do much better than Mitsubishi's 70-inch VS-70707 rear-projection set, which delivers a huge screen, big sound, and generous connection options for a relatively affordable price. To improve image definition in brightly lit rooms, the set's ColorTuned Diamond Shield uses selective filtering to block yellow and orange light, the offending components in sunlight and home lighting. Unlike conventional tinted shields, however, this filter passes the light from red, green, and blue CRTs with minimal loss of brightness, giving you blacker blacks and brighter whites.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The Mitsubishi's 3D Y/C comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

The set pumps out stereo audio with 10 watts per channel from external sources and broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. The onboard speakers are a large five inches in diameter. A component-video input grants a high-resolution connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players.

The set also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, auto-off, and a universal remote control.
