Description:

With the KP-48S65 48-inch rear-projection TV, Sony places the emphasis on picture quality. To begin with, 48 inches is an ideal--and increasingly rare--screen size. For consumers who want to make the leap from a 32-inch direct-view set, but who don't have the space or the proper viewing distance for a 54-inch model, 48 inches is perfect. Not only that, the KP-48S65 is only about 22 inches deep, so it actually takes up less floor space than you might imagine.

The KP-48S65 has an advanced Pro-Optic system with fine-pitch Fresnel lenses for the three cathode-ray tubes that rest inside the cabinet. A three-line digital comb filter results in sharper edges and helps reduce dot crawl. An advanced picture stabilizer helps prevent distortion and blooming and smooths the transition from dark to light scenes. Shading compensation circuitry helps eliminate the center hot spot common with many rear-projection sets.

On the audio side, the set has built-in stereo speakers and Matrix surround-sound processing. It also has plenty of audio-video inputs, including S-Video on the front and rear. Other features include dual-tuner picture-in-picture and a program palette that allows you to select from three preset color temperatures (standard, movie, and sports).

Clearly, this rear-projection TV is designed for discerning viewers who intend to make the KP-48S65 the centerpiece of a souped-up surround-sound home-theater system.
