Summary: Super sharp with DVDs
Review: I had been looking at projection TVs for 3 years and never saw anything in the showrooms that I couldn't live without - until I wandered into Circuit City at the Holyoke Mall. There I saw the Hitachi 51UWX - the picture was spectacular. CC delivered it to me in Vermont (free delivery - with 3 ft of snow on the ground) and set it up. It's been 'Cinema Nirvana' ever since. The key feature is the ability to manually sharpen the image at 117 points on the screen - the result is a sharper image (from DVDs) than any first-run movie theater can provide. If you're a film afficianado - this is the machine.

Review: I originally bought a Samsung 43" 16:9 which exploded after 18 days. Went back to get another and saw the Hitachi. The picture was great and with all the options it included it was my first choice. Price was higher than what I wanted to spend, but when the salesman knocked $400 off to keep my business, I couldn't pass it up. Once hooked up at home I popped in the Star Wars II DVD into my new Home Theater System, sat back and decided that I never need to go to a theater again. Now if I could only get one remote to do everything instead of having 5 remotes I would truly be in heaven.

Summary: Great TV, excellent connections, Nice R/C
Review: Purchase from Amazon in Feb 2003, delivered by truck (took about a week) and they set it up for no additional charge...

Worked perfect for 6 months -- then suddently stopped working one night [~ 2:00 am when I had fallen asleep watching it :)]. Called Hitachi and they found someone who would service it (most I called did not want to come to my location as I'm 35 miles outside of Chicago). The service people contacted me - came out, diagnosed the problem ("jungle" chip) and left. 2 weeks later came back out, fixed it (no charge) and it's been fine ever since.

Picture is still fantastic, service is excellent and despite my angst over it not working for a bit has been an excellent TV. I would recommend an extended warranty however.

Summary: An excellent TV, with an excellent price.
Review: This is by far the best thing that I have ever purchased. Anyways, it is an outstanding TV, with a great picture, lots of input jacks for stuff, and by far the best price tag for the quality.

UPDATE!!
After one year of use this TV is out of comission. I turn the set on and instantly the screen turns blue, white, then shuts off. Thank god for the warranty. I will update again once it's fixed.

Review: This is my first purchase of an Hitachi product and I have to say I am very pleased. Sony was the first HDTV I looked at but two things changed my mind. First the 'flicker' problem associated with Sony projection TV's. Their tube televisions are peerless but over and over I came across comments about the development of flicker and a green cast on the picture after even 3 months of use. Then I saw the TV's side by side at Circuit City. That clinched it. The color and definition of the Hitachi were, to me, superior. One caveat...normal cable looks less than great on this TV. I have digital TV with HDTV channels and it's amazing. I cannot say how a picture from an antenna would look. But before the Cable company hooked up my HDTV box, the pic on the HItachi wasn't as good as the picture on my father's 3 year old Mitsubishi. However, with both tv's attached to HDTV cable, the HItachi is superior.
