Description:

Yamaha marries high style and high quality in one powerful, easy-to-use speaker system. Hook your DVD player into a surround-capable audio/video receiver and the NS-FP9500 slim-line multichannel speaker system, and prepare to be enthralled by seamless, full-range surround sound. The NS-FP9500 is a 6.1-channel system offering front left/right, surround left/right, and a rear-center satellite/bookshelf speaker, a front center-channel speaker, and a 120-watt powered subwoofer, model YST-SW030. The system requires a 6.1-channel receiver for full enjoyment. If you're already set up for 5.1 sound (without the rear center-channel output), don't sweat it--you'll still get terrific performance (and you can always store one of the system's five satellite speakers for later on).

The three-way satellites and the center-channel speaker all use acoustic-suspension designs for clear sound with taut, uncolored sound. All employ dual drivers with a coaxial, .5-inch tweeter mounted on one of them and all are capable of handling amplifier power up to 120 watts. The complete system is finished in silver for great looks as well as great sound. Magnetic shielding on all speakers permits placement near TVs and computer monitors with no risk of image distortion. The speakers' amazing high-frequency response extends to 60,000 Hz.

The 75-watt, 8-inch subwoofer packs the most "under the hood," so to speak, with Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) generating incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass.

QD-Bass (Quatre Dispersion Bass) technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate sound efficiently in four horizontal directions. The reflective plates (not used in other brands' down-firing subwoofers) negate any effects caused by the floor surface and reduce resonance between sound waves reflected from the floor and the unit. Most other systems use circular cones, but the YST-SW030, by radiating in four directions, avoids firing sound into the legs of the cabinet. Changing the height of the pyramid varies the acoustic load, permitting relatively simple high-cut adjustment and improving bandpass properties. QD-Bass also grants greater freedom of placement, since the sound radiates with equal effectiveness in all directions.

The sub's individual volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The YST-SW030 has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When the subwoofer detects an audio signal, it turns its power on. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off.

Yamaha's BASS (Bass Action Selector Switch) tailors the sub's output for video or music at the touch of a switch. The sub accepts a line-level RCA input only, and a handy phase normal/reverse switch makes it easy to phase the subwoofer with the other speakers in the system (room placement greatly affects phase relationships).

What's in the Box
