Summary: Advent tuning problems
Review: I recently purchased the Advent AW870 Wireless Powered Speakers and found them to be very difficult to tune properly. The signal would drift in and out with alot of distortion. Then I picked up RCAs (WSP200) new wireless speakers with their transmitter and speakers having 3 preset 900 MHz channels. This was a snap to get up and running and worked great. I was even able to tune the advent speakers to the RCA tranmitter very quickly. I came to the conclusion that the Advent transmitter is much more difficult to use and I would not recommend the Advent series because of the transmitter.

Summary: Don't waste your time - get wired at any cost!
Review: I'm pretty experienced with setting up audio systems. The bottom line... these speakers are a pain, and should be avoided unless you are utterly desperate and wires are totally out of the question. For starters, you have to plug in bulky "wall brick" AC adpaters for each speaker (and the transmitter at the receiver) - hmm, how attractive and convenient. Second, if they are in another room, prepare to do lots of walking back and forth to get the transmitter and speakers to play nice with eachother. Too much delicate tweaking. Getting the static to completely go away proved futile - and my application was simple and WELL within the limits these are supposed to handle. The icing on the cake is when I had people over and they dared walk around my home. It would cause interference and annoying static. At that point, I was having flashbacks those cheap walkie-talkies from my childhood, and wished I had spent my money elsewhere. Someday, wireless technology for speakers will be at a cost/performance ratio of other wireless products. For now, you might want to steer clear of this price point.

Summary: Convenient and flexible, sound better than you'd think.
Review: I've been using my Advent wireless speakers for about 2 months, and am very pleased with their overall performance. I will likely buy another pair. I use them for rear speakers in my surround sound setup, so I don't have to run wires around the room. Also, I take speakers to other parts of the house, or out on the patio when listening to CDs or FM and can't be in the main listening room. Reception and sound quality is good, only rare interference noise when someone passes near speaker.

Review: I've had these speakers for about 6 months now. They work just fine. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality. I thought they would just be serviceable, they're actually indistinguishable from my AR bookshelf speakers. (I'll admit, I'm no audiophile.) But they were a good buy.

Summary: Much better than some of the reviews had led me to expect
Review: It does indeed take some time to adjust the transmitter, but when it is done it is done... The sound of the very loud parts of a Beethoven symphony are a bit distorted and I still prefer listening to it in my living room on my expensive EMI speakers, but the string quartets I play when I am in my study sound absolutely perfect on the Advent speakers.

Summary: nice sound quality and convenient
Review: Save your time and money. I have the speakers 15 feet (unobstructed) from the transmitter, and they constantly pop and growl with the music playing. The noise and high pitched whistling is so annoying, that unless there is music playing I have to unplug them. They are a real dissapointment.

Review: The only bad thing I can find about these speakers is the occasional interferance you get if you are at a certain spot near the speaker. However I live in an apartment and have not fully been able to test any distance limitations. That being said... these speakers were perfect for what I needed(moving computer audio to another room). The coolest thing is you can just unplug the speaker and take your music to whichever room you want to chill in. Also I know when I get instant messages wherever I am and have remote management setup so I can control the sharing machine from any computer on my network. If you have a network these are an excellent addition in almost all cases...hence 5 stars from me

Summary: Advent AW870 Wireless Powered Speakers
Review: The sound quality is below par. NO base and there is a constant hissing sound. When the volume is increased the sound gets very distorted. The advantage is that it is very easy to set up any where to about 150' away without runnig wires. Good additonal set of speakers to setup in different locations outside/indoor in a small area for parties but not a good set of speakers to listen too as your main speakers.
