Summary: Canon GL-2
Review: I just bought this camcorder and I really like it. I had thoughts of buying the Xl1s, but I decided to save some money and buy the Gl-2. The image quality is great and it also offers great audio controls. The one thing that I wish it had is the ability to use other lenses. Other than that though, it is a great camcorder.

Summary: Great for filmmakers
Review: I own this camera, and it's my best friend. Well not really, but it's the most amazing camera I've ever had. You get what you pay for, and you get a lot from this camera.

This is however, NOT a camera that the general public should buy. It's far to expensive, and really wouldn't be worth it to someone who will be using this for filming say a birthday party. There are many features on this camera, which make it as wonderful as it is, but these features would likely be unused by someone new to video cameras. So if you are in this boat, save your money and get a different camera.

What's great about it? The image quality is better than anything I've seen before. With 3CCD, it's good. Unlike the XL-1S, the GL2 has a 2.5 inch color LCD. However, I rarely use this. It takes up more battery power, and you can't see it when there's sunlight. I love the audio controls, and how it's not only stereo microphone, but you can control the levels of your left and right audio, right there, on the camera. I love to convert analogue video into digitial video, and it's almost too easy using the GL2. It's great for getting your older stuff into a digital format, and being able to easily get it onto your computer.

What's bad about it? Really not a whole lot. The 1.7-megapixel photo mode is really uneeded. 1.7-megapixels really isn't that good. The included 8MB card for these pictures isn't enough. If you're going to want to take digital pictures, then get a digital still camera, and don't use the GL2 as a still camera.

But I can't stress enough that if you aren't going to use this for more professional projects, then you really shouldn't get this camera.

Summary: Great quality "prosumer" camcorder
Review: I was drawn to the GL2 because I believe it is the only 3 CCD camcorder that has a 20X optical zoom. I've been very pleased with the quality and features so far, especially the optical image stabilization. I previously used a Sony Digital 8, which uses electronic image stabilization. This made it hard to do smooth pans, as the image would stay still during the initial part of the pan, then "pop" suddenly as the electronic buffer was exceeded.
I also am looking forward to the wind screen setting for the mic, as many a shot on my old camcorder has been marred by so much wind noise that audio is inaudible.

Summary: Best camera ever, but not for beginners
Review: Not for the faint of heart... if you want to shoot a little league game, bbq, or basically don't have much experience with cameras this isnt the one for you. However if you have outgrown other DV cameras then by all means go ahead because it really is the greatest camera ever. I am a film student and have been using the GL2 for the past 2 years. The incredible image quality has saved many an ill fated piece. Its versatility makes it a must have for anyone who wants to shoot in a variety of situations. Bottom line, if your experienced and know exactly what you need, you can't go wrong with this camera, but if you're new too this and are unsure of the features you need, go with something cheaper.

Summary: Canon Gl2 Problems I Had!!
Review: Pros: Excellent image quality and color fidelity; 20X optical zoom; two-channel audio control; 1.7-megapixel still image capture; lightweight.

Cons: Too many controls per button; onboard microphone is omnidirectional; mediocre battery life with included cell.

Summary: An ok camera, just not what I expected. I own a Sony VX2000 and PD-150 we use in video production of homes for sale. We bought the GL2 because of the fact it was about a half pound lighter and a little smaller than the Sony cameras. The first problem is when you attache the small 3 watt Canon light, the drain on the battery is too great and shuts down the camer before the battery is one half way drained. Even with the biggest battery that Canon makes the battery life is short with their fill light. The second problem was when the telephoto zoom button failed after 70 minutes of use, making the auto zoom function useless. Now I must send the camera back to Canon only after 20 days of use. The mail order place would only take it back within 15 days. The third problem is the low light noise is a little worse on the camera when compared to the Sony VX2000 or Sony PD-150. It is not a big difference, but it is noticeable. I never had a reason to mail in a Sony camera for repairs, even after years of use. It's a dissapointment to have a new camera fail in so many ways

Summary: Canon GL2 shines with sharp picture, excellent in low light
Review: The picture quality is excellent, camera works extremely well in various low-light situations. Easy to use, more features than we've yet discovered. Automatic modes make it easy for beginners to use. Highly recommend optional windscreen for microphone if used in windy conditions. We're buying a fourth camera for our local community access TV center, our fourth Canon GL2. We also have 2 Canon ZR65 cameras for kids to use. 4 1/2 stars.

Summary: flaws in ths camcorder
Review: There are few flaws with this camcorder. Power save function automatically shuts off the camcorder ever when you are in recording mode. This does not happen always but once in a while you get this. Please read reviews from various sites before buying this expensive one.

Summary: GO BUY IT!
Review: This camera is incridable. Every time i put my video in to watch, i cant beleive how beautifull the picture is. My friends litteraly gasp when they see it! Not only that, but it is very easy to use, just point and shoot. But when i'm in the mood to be creative, i have all the options i could ever want, including shutter speed and apperature controll. I already have a Canon SLR camera, so everything works just as i would expect it too.

Before i bought it i read dozens of reviews and never found a worthy complaint. People argue back and forth about weather the Sony or Canon is better, as far as i can tell they are both great camera's. But when it come's to lense quality (a very important thing), i have to trust Canon who i know know's how to make a lense.

As far as trouble, i havn't had a single problem. Not a one! My only gripe, if this is a good one, is the price of accesories. Since i spent 2200 on the camera, i can't afford any of them.

You won't be dissapointed if you buy this camera. Go buy it and be ready to have a blast.
